values of heavy actinides beyond einsteinium (Es, Z = 99), however, have not been determined experimentally so far due to the difficulty in obtaining these elements on scales of more than one atom at a time. Recently, we successfully measured IP
of lawrencium (Lr, Z = 103) using a surface ionization method. The result suggests that Lr has a loosely-bound electron in the outermost orbital. In contrast to Lr, nobelium (No, Z = 102) is expected to have the highest IP
among the actinide elements owing to its full-filled 5f and the 7s orbitals. In the present study, we have successfully determined IP
values of No as well as fermium (Fm, Z = 100) and mendelevium (Md, Z = 101) using the surface ionization method. The obtained results indicate that the IP
value of heavy actinoids would increase monotonically with filling electrons up in the 5f orbital like heavy lanthanoids.

Based on the dependence, the ionization potential of the atom can be determined. We measured ionization efficiencies of fermium, einsteinium, mendelevium, and lawrencium by using a newly developed gas-jet coupled surface ion-source. The ionization potential of the elements have not been determined so far due to their low production rates and/or their short half-lives. Based on a relationship between the ionization efficiency and the ionization potential obtained via measurements of short-lived lanthanide isotopes, the ionization potentials of these actinide elements have been successfully determined.

The loss of the retaining split pins (four pieces) for clevis pin were confirmed at the inspection of the pipe supports in the Monju prototype fast-breeder reactor in May, 2014. The split pins (two pieces) of ROD RESTRAINT and CONSTANT HANGER were fallen off. The split pins (two pieces) of MECHANICAL SNUBBER were broken at both ends of them. As a result of investigation, a dimple pattern was observed in a fracture surface of broken split pin. This observation result showed that fracture morphology is ductile fracture. A reproduction test, whether split pin was broken by loading the external force to the clevis pin, also gave the same fracture morphology. As the result of all cause investigation, the reason of the broken split pins is that the split pins were loaded shearing stress by the external force loaded to the clevis pin axial direction. The result of the cause investigation and a recurrence prevention measure of this trouble was be reported by this report.

Lr ions by applying the present ion-source and the ISOL technique. The ionization efficiencies of Lr were estimated to be approximately 42% and 24% at 2600 K on Re and Ta surfaces, respectively. These values were higher than those of Lu in all of ionization condition. The results indicate that the ionization potential of Lr would be lower than that of Lu, 5.4 eV. Therefore, it is concluded that the surface ion-source is a promising apparatus tomeasure the first ionization potential of Lr. Using the present system, determination of the ionization potential of Lr is being performed.

-decay spectroscopy. The
No is the nucleus with the largest neutron number whose spin-parities and single-particle configurations have ever been identified. The neutron 9/2
[615] configuration was assigned to the ground state of
No as well as to the 231.4 keV level in
Fm. This allowed us to establish energy spacings and order of the neutron single-particle orbitals in such heaviest nuclear region. The appearance of the 9/2
[615] ground state at
=157 implies that the order of the neutron orbitals between the
=152 and 162 deformed shell gaps should change considerably with increasing neutron number.

Due to the strong relativistic effects, the weakly-bound outermost electron results in a significantly low first ionization potential (IP) of Lr as compared with its neighboring heavy actinides. fine structure measurements. Spin-parities and neutron configurations of the excited states in
Fm as well as the ground state of
No are definitely identified on the basis of deduced internal conversion coefficients, lifetimes of
transitions, rotational-band energies built on one-quasiparticle states, and hindrance factors of
transitions. It is found that the excitation energy of the 1/2
[620] state in
=151 isotones increases with the atomic number, especially at
100, while that of the 1/2
[631] state decreases at
=100. Energy systematics of the one-quasiparticle states in the
=151 isotones are discussed in terms of the evolution of nuclear deformation involving the hexadecapole and hexacontatetrapole deformations.
