Various upgrade plans of the J-PARC linac are underway, and repetition-rate doubling project is one of the most important part. Currently, the linac supplies a 400~MeV H
ion beam to the 3~GeV synchrotron (RCS) at a repetition rate of 25~Hz. However, to deliver the beam to both RCS and proton-beam irradiation facility under planning, it is necessary to raise the repetition rate from 25~Hz to 50~Hz. Prior to construction of the beamline to the irradiation facility, we conducted a verification of the 50~Hz operation of all the linac apparatus simultaneously within the current operational limits in May 2025. And also, the verification of the 50~Hz operation of the particle counter system, which is one of the most important safety device of the J-PARC accelerator, was conducted. As a result, any significant problems were not found out, and it is now ready for the upcoming 50~Hz-beam acceleration demonstration. This paper describes this details of the demonstration of the 50~Hz operation, without beam acceleration, of the J-PARC linac.

The main purpose of reproductive toxicity testing is to evaluate whether the administration of xenobiotics, such as pharmaceuticals, food additives, and environmental chemicals, exerts adverse effects on reproductive function in living organisms. The outcomes can be applied as a scientific basis to evaluate potential risks to human reproductive health. In this study, we developed a novel luciferase reporter mouse model for assessing reproductive toxicity, enabling longitudinal and quantitative evaluations of male fertility through in vivo imaging of acrosin without the need for euthanasia. This approach promises to advance our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the onset and recovery of reproductive toxicity. Additionally, reducing the number of animals needed for evaluation aligns with the principle of Reduction, which is one of the core components of the 3Rs in animal studies.

Small-angle scattering (SAS) is effective for such structural analysis. However, quantitatively capturing local molecular structure formation and molecular reactions at a scale of less than 1 nm via SAS is difficult. In this study, to analyze the structure of non-equilibrium phenomena in light-responsive materials, a new sample environment has been developed for a time-of-flight small- and wide-angle neutron scattering instrument (TAIKAN), comprising a UV-Vis irradiation system, UV-Vis absorption measurement equipment and photodetector. Simultaneous measurement of small-angle neutron scattering and UV-Vis absorption was achieved. This system was used to demonstrate the in situ observation of UV-Vis irradiation-induced structural change of micelles formed by a light-responsive surfactant sample in an aqueous solution.

Reflectance spectra of excavated material exhibit a hydroxyl (OH) absorption feature that is slightly stronger and peak-shifted compared with that observed for the surface, indicating that space weathering and/or radiative heating have caused subtle spectral changes in the uppermost surface. However, the strength and shape of the OH feature still suggests that the subsurface material experienced heating above 300
C, similar to the surface. In contrast, thermophysical modeling indicates that radiative heating does not increase the temperature above 200
C at the estimated excavation depth of 1 m, even if the semimajor axis is reduced to 0.344 au. This supports the hypothesis that primary thermal alteration occurred due to radiogenic and/or impact heating on Ryugu's parent body.

demonstrates a strong negative thermal expansion (NTE) which holds potential for being fabricated into composites with zero thermal expansion. The NTE was found to be intimately associated with the spontaneous magnetic ordering, known as magneto-volume effect (MVE). Here we report with compelling evidences that the continuous-like MVE in PrBaCo
O
is intrinsically of discontinuous character, originating from an magnetoelectric transition from an antiferromagnetic insulating large-volume (AFILV) phase to a ferromagnetic less-insulating small-volume (FLISV) phase. Furthermore, the magnetoelectric effect (ME) shows high sensitivity to multiple external stimuli such as temperature, carrier doping, hydrostatic pressure, magnetic field etc. In contrast to the well-known ME such as colossal magnetoresistance and multi-ferroic effect which involve symmetry breaking of crystal structure, the ME in the cobaltite is purely isostructural. Our discovery provides a new path way to realizing the ME as well as the NTE, which may find applications in new techniques.

We have developed
measurement and analysis techniques in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. To begin with, time-division depth profiles of gate stacked film interfaces have been achieved by NAP-HARPES (Near Ambient Pressure Hard X-ray Angle-Resolved Photo Emission Spectroscopy) data. We then have promoted our methods to quickly perform peak fittings and depth profiling from time-division ARPES data, which enables us to realize 4D-XPS analysis. It is found that the traditional maximum entropy method (MEM) combined with Jackknife averaging of sparse modeling in NAP-HARPES data is effective to perform dynamic measurement of depth profiles with high precision.

The Near Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS3) on Hayabusa2 acquired reflectance spectra of Ryugu's surface to provide direct measurements of the surface composition and geological context for the returned samples. A weak, narrow absorption feature centered at 2.72 micron was detected across the entire observed surface, indicating that hydroxyl (OH)-bearing minerals are ubiquitous there. The intensity of the OH feature and low albedo are similar to thermally- and/or shock-metamorphosed carbonaceous chondrite meteorites. There are few variations in the OH-band position, consistent with Ryugu being a compositionally homogeneous rubble-pile object generated from impact fragments of an undifferentiated aqueously altered parent body.
