The most important issue is to reduce the uncontrolled beam loss in the high intensity hadron accelerator such as J-PARC proton accelerators. The J-PARC 3 GeV Synchrotron (RCS) has a collimator system which narrows a high intensity beam in the RCS. After startup of RCS in 2007, the collimator system of the RCS worked well. However, in April 2016, vacuum leakage at the collimator system occurred during the maintenance operation. To investigate a cause of the failure, we took apart iron shields of the collimator reducing exposed dose of operators. As a result of inspection, we succeeded to identify the cause of the vacuum leakage failure. In this presentation, we report the failure investigation of the beam collimator system in the RCS.

Few magnetic alloys cores of the RF cavities which are installed in the 3 GeV rapid cycling synchrotron of the J-PARC have buckled after the operation of about two years. We heated cores in the air and measured thermal deformation in order to get information about the buckling process. We report the results.

Longitudinal particle simulation for J-PARC RCS

Yamamoto, Masanobu; Anami, Shozo*; Ezura, Eiji*; Hasegawa, Katsushi; Hara, Keigo*; Horino, Mitsuyoshi*; Nomura, Masahiro; Omori, Chihiro*; Schnase, A.; Shimada, Taihei; et al.

Proceedings of 5th Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan and 33rd Linear Accelerator Meeting in Japan (CD-ROM), p.358 - 360, 2008/00

The beam commissioning has been started at the J-PARC RCS in October 2007, and the beam acceleration and the extraction at 3 GeV has been succeeded. Some longitudinal bunch gymnastics has been tested toward the high intensity operation, one of the issues is arriviating the space charge effect at the injeciton. Since the multi-turn injection scheme is employed at the RCS, the electric charge density of the bunch near the center of the RF bucket tends to be high with only normal fundamental RF capture. Some schemes such as adding 2nd higher harmonic RF, the momentum offset and the phase offset of the 2nd one are simulated by longitudinal particle tracking code to make the bunching factor low. The comparison between the beam test result and the particle tracking simulation is described.

A Structural study on uranyl (VI) nitrate complexes with cyclic amides; ${it N-n}$-butyl-2-pyrrolidone, ${it N}$-cyclohexylmethyl-2-pyrrolidone, and 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidone

Structural analyses of UO$$_{2}$$(NO$$_{3}$$)$$_{2}$$L$$_{2}$$ [L=${it N-n}$-butyl-2-pyrrolidone, N-cyclohexylmethyl-2-pyrrolidone, and 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidone] have been carried out using X-ray diffraction method. These uranyl complexes were found to have a hexagonal bipyramidal structure. The bond distances of U=O and U-O (ligand), and bond angles of U-O-C(carbonyl) are determined. In uranyl nitrate complexes with cyclic amides such as 2-pyrrolidone, urea, and caprolactam derivatives, a linear correlation was found to hold between U-O (ligand) bond distances and U-O-C(carbonyl) bond angles. Vibrational frequencies of UO$$_{2}$$(NO$$_{3}$$)$$_{2}$$L$$_{2}$$ have also been measured by IR and Raman spectrophotometers. Using relationships between vibrational frequencies of O=U=O bonds and donor numbers (DNs) of ligands, donicities of N-substituted-2-pyrrolidones were determined.

This report describes the results of the primary and secondary cooling system interlock test and the fuel handling system function test, which were done as a part of JOYO MK-3 function test. The items of the test are: (1) Primary and secondary cooling system interlock test (SKS-106,210) (2) Loss of electric power supply test (SKS-116) (3) In-vessel and ex-vessel automatic fuel transportation test (SKS-501,502) As the interlock of the primary and secondary cooling system was changed, the interlock test by the reactor scram and the loss of electric power supply was carried out. The function of the remote automatic fuel handling system was confirmed before the handling of the fuel for MK-3 core configuration. The results of the test satisfied the required performance, and it was confirmed that operation of the primary and secondary cooling system interlock and operation of the fuel handling system in JOYO MK-3 were normal.
