In PUREX process for spent fuel reprocessing plants, heating portions in the components are severely corroded in the boiling solution under heat transfer (HT) conditions. In this paper, authors have focused on the effects of surface temperature and heat flux on corrosion rates (CRs) of stainless steels in boiling nitric acid under HT conditions. Two types of cells for HT and immersion conditions were applied for corrosion tests. Test solution used was 33 mol/m vanadium added to 3 kmol/m
nitric acid solution, and was heated at boiling temperature under atmospheric pressure. Additionally, a boiling curve which was indicated the relation between heat flux and degree of superheating was investigated experimentally. Surface temperatures during corrosion tests were estimated from a boiling curve. The results showed that CR did not depend on heat flux, but depended on surface temperature. Arrhenius plots on CRs indicated that CR was accelerated by solution boiling against non-boiling.

Environmental radiation monitoring around the Tokai Reprocessing Plant has been performed by the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Engineering Laboratories, based on "Safety Regulations for the Reprocessing Plant of Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Chapter IV - Environmental Monitoring". This annual report presents the results of the environmental monitoring and the dose estimation to the hypothetical inhabitant due to the radioactivity discharged from the plant to the atmosphere and the sea during April 2010 to March 2011. In this report, some data include the influence of the accidental release from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant on Tokyo Electric Power Co. in 2011 March. Appendices present comprehensive information, such as monitoring program, monitoring methods, monitoring results and their trends, meteorological data and discharged radioactive wastes. In addition, the data exceeded the normal range of fluctuation by the accidental release was evaluated in the appendices.

Collimated relativistic electrons up to 58 MeV with an electron charge of 2.1 nC were generated by the interaction of intense laser pulses with the Ar cluster target at the laser intensity of 3.510
W/cm
. The resulting spectrum does not fit a Maxwellian distribution, but is well described by a two-temperature Maxwellian, which indicates two mechanisms of the electron acceleration. Two dimensional particle-in-cell simulations demonstrate an important role of clusters. The higher energy electrons are injected when they are expelled from the clusters by the laser pulse field. They then gain their energy during the direct acceleration by the laser pulse, whose phase velocity in the underdense plasma is larger than speed of light in vacuum. The lower energy electrons, which are injected during the plasma wave breaking, are accelerated by the wakefield.

Long-term agricultural practices result in the accumulation of uranium (U) in plowed soils, as phosphate fertilizers contain about 90740 mg/kg of uranium as impurity. It is difficult to evaluate whether or not fertilizer-derived U affect public dose of U through agricultural products because U is ubiquitous elements in the soil environment. However, chenopodiaceous plants such as spinach are known to uptake higher amounts of U than the other vegetables and crops. In order to assess the potential risks caused by trace U present in agricultural fields, we investigated U uptake by spinach grown in soil of elevated concentration of U possibly due to phosphorus fertilization.

Effect of metal surface temperature and solution boiling on corrosion of stainless steel in boiling nitric acid solution at heating portion was studied to investigate ageing behavior of the components in spent fuel reprocessing plant. Corrosion tests under the conditions of heat transfer and immersion in atmospheric pressure were carried out using nitric acid solution including Vanadium. As the results, apparent activation energies of thermal dependences on corrosion rates of both the heat transfer and the immersion were indicated approximately 40 kJ/mol. Corrosion rate under the boiling condition were higher about 7 times for the non-boiling condition.

The laser-ion acceleration can be complicated by the presence of an amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) pedestal at a leading edge of the high-intensity laser pulse. Several attempts have been made to decrease the ASE level by using a plasma mirror or a OPCPA laser system combined with a saturable absorber: J-KAREN. In this work, we propose another way to improve the main pulse-ASE ratio by using a double-CPA bypass line system. We have developed a new laser line consisting of a pulse compressor, a saturable absorber, a pulse stretcher and a Ti:Sap. multi-pass amplifier. The most remarkable feature of this system is that the bypass line can be installed into a conventional TW laser system.
