Local variation of $$^{7}$$Be deposition in Hokuriku, Japan

Yoshida, Keisuke; Kato, Shingo; Okuyama, Shinichi; Nakano, Masanao; Ishimori, Yuu; Uchida, Kengo*; Inoue, Mutsuo*

Hoken Butsuri (Internet), 60(1), p.40 - 47, 2025/04

Monthly $$^{7}$$Be depositions were examined at four sites in Hokuriku, Japan, from 1992 to 2021. The amounts of $$^{7}$$Be depositions in Hokuriku from October to March differed locally: Depositions at Kanazawa were high (4400 Bq/m$$^{2}$$), a site along the foot of the mountains. $$^{7}$$Be depositions in the plain of Fukui city, along Wakasa Bay, and along the coast of the Noto Peninsula (3300, 2800, and 2500 Bq/m$$^{2}$$, respectively) were equivalent to those of other areas along the coast of the Sea of Japan. The local variation in $$^{7}$$Be depositions in Hokuriku is predominantly ascribed to precipitation, topographic feature, and $$^{7}$$Be concentrations.

We studied Holocene paleolimnological changes inferred from biomarkers and microscopic observation of microalgae and cyanobacteria in sediment cores from Rundv${aa}$shetta lakes (Maruwanminami-ike and Maruwan o-ike) in the Soya Coast of East Antarctica, along with sedimentary facies and radiocarbon dating. Coastal marine environment: Maruwanminami-ike (147-72.5 cm, 5,010-2,590 cal BP) and Maruwan-oike (226-47.2 cm, 5,700-3,190 cal BP) were characterized by low biological production with the predominance of diatoms. Transition period of stratified brackish lake environment: Maruwanminami-ike (72.5-65.6 cm, 2,590-2,500 cal BP) and Maruwan-oike (47.2-28.8 cm, 3,190-2,890 cal BP) were characterized by stratified conditions with marine water overlain by freshwater, and a chemocline developed together with an anoxic layer in the bottom of photic zone.

Experimental determination of effective attenuation length for SiO$$_2$$ thin film with synchrotron radiation phottoemission spectroscopy

Inoue, Keisuke; Teraoka, Yuden

Denki Gakkai Rombunshi, C, 130(10), p.1817 - 1818, 2010/10

The effective attenuation length (EAL) is a necessary parameter to estimate the thickness of SiO$$_2$$ overlayer by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS). Inelastic mean free path (IMFP) is often used instead of EAL because EAL is scarcely known. EAL values were determined experimentally in the photon energy region from 480 eV to 800 eV using synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopy. Although EALs estimated are different from calculated IMFPs, EALs, estimated without suboxides, are mostly close to theoretically-calculated IMFPs.

A method for growing large protein crystals is described. In this method, a cut pipette tip is used to hang large-scale droplets (maximum volume 200 $$mu$$l) consisting of protein and precipitating agents. A crystal grows at the vapor-liquid interface; thereafter the grown crystal can be retrieved by droplet-droplet contact both for repeated macroseeding and for mounting crystals in a capillary. Crystallization experiments with peroxiredoxin of ${it Aeropyrum pernix}$ K1(thioredoxin peroxidase, ApTPx) and hen egg white lysozyme demonstrated that this large-scale hanging-drop method could produce a large-volume crystal very effectively. A neutron diffraction experiment confirmed that an ApTPx crystal (6.2 mm$$^{3}$$) obtained by this method diffracted to beyond 3.5 ${AA}$ resolution.

JAEA is study in the high Ni-alloy behavior as ODS substitute materials for the use in fast reactor. The precipitation behavior of $$gamma$$ double-prime (Ni$$_{3}$$Nb) in the high Ni steel was tested in prescription examinations. The results was the $$gamma$$ double-prime (Ni$$_{3}$$Nb) became a fault size and the hardness was decreased in the high prescription temperature and the long prescription time.

Depth-profiling using angular-resolved X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and the maximum entropy method

no journal, ,

Photoelectron spectroscopy is predominantly a surface-sensitive technique, but by recording spectra at a range of angles information on the depth-dependent distribution of elements in specific chemical states can also be obtained. Compared to other techniques such as Rutherford back-scattering, the technique has the advantage of chemical-state specificity, but the drawback that it requires very careful data analysis to produce reliable and quantitative results. Here we report progress in obtaining chemical-state depth profiles from photoelectron spectra recorded using the SUREAC2000 apparatus at SPring-8's BL23SU. Results will be presented for ARXPS data recorded for N and O layers on Al(111), and also a VCrTi sample, both in its as-received state and following deuterium ion dosing.

Thermal stability of deuterium ion implanted hydrogen storage material (V$$_{25}$$Cr$$_{40}$$Ti$$_{35}$$) using high-resolution soft X-ray synchrotron radiation photoelectron spectroscopy

Tode, Mayumi; Harries, J.; Teraoka, Yuden; Sumimoto, Yuichi; Inoue, Keisuke; Yoshigoe, Akitaka

no journal, ,

Thermal stability of native oxide layer on the hydrogen storage materials is related to the hydrogen absorption and desorption. Thermal instability of native oxide layer on VCrTi and deuterated VCrTi was observed by high resolution soft X-ray synchrotron radiation photoemission spectroscopy. All experiments have been conducted at the surface chemistry experimental station (SUREAC2000) at BL23SU, SPring-8. After thermal annealing, the peak that shows the oxidation weakens, and the peak that shows the metal strengthens. The thermal stability of a natural oxide layer was observed to stabilize by about 100 degrees by deuterium ion implanted.
