Times Cited Count:7 Percentile:46.22(Nuclear Science & Technology)In JFT-2M, the toroidal field ripple was reduced by ferritic insert. Two kinds of ripple reduction were carried out. In the first case, ferritic steel was installed between toroidal field coil and vacuum vessel, just under toroidal field coil, outside vacuum vessel. In the second one, ferritic steel was installed inside vacuum vessel covering almost whole inside wall. The ripple was successfully reduced in the both cases. The temperature increment on the first wall measured by infrared TV was also reduced. A new version of OFMC code was also developed to analyze fast ion behavior in the complex structure of the toroidal field. The TF ripple reduction with ferritic insert in JFT-2M is summarized in this article.

Recently, the detailed radial profile measurements of plasma parameters have been improved, so that the internal structure of plasmas has been explored. The understanding of plasma confinement has been enhanced by density and temperature fluctuation measurements using a mm-wave reflectometer and electron cyclotron emission measurements respectively. In addition, the real-time control experiments of electron density, neutron yield, radiated power and electron temperature gradient have been carried out successfully by corresponding diagnostic devices. These measurements and the real time control contribute to improving plasma performance. Diagnostic devices for next generation fusion devices such as a CO2 laser interferometer/polarimeter and a CO2 laser collective Thomson scattering system have been developed.

Times Cited Count:13 Percentile:27.27(Nuclear Science & Technology)In order to establish scientific basis for the sustainment of highly integrated performance required in the advanced steady-state operation, JT-60U has been optimizing the discharge control scenarios of improved confinement plasmas and expanding the operation regions. Promising results toward the steady-state tokamak were obtained. The detail of such results is reported. JFT-2M has performed advanced and basic research for the development of high performance tokamak plasma as well as the structural material for a fusion reactor. The toroidal ripple reduction with ferritic steel plates outside the vacuum vessel was successfully demonstrated. No adverse effects were observed in the pre-testing on compatibility between ferritic steel plates, covering ~20% of the inside wall of the vacuum vessel, and plasma. The results of TRIAM-1M is also reported.
