Fe48-at.% Al alloy were implanted with 50 keV H$$^+$$ ions to the fluence of 3$$times$$10$$^{16}$$ and 1$$times$$10$$^{18}$$ /cm$$^2$$ at room temperature. Positron annihilation Doppler broadening and lifetime measurements for these alloys have been carried out using slow positron beam apparatus with an energy range of 0.2 to 30.2 keV. The positron annihilation S-parameter decreased by H$$^+$$ ion irradiation. Also the positron lifetimes for hydrogen deposited region in the alloy decreased by the irradiation. These results show that implanted H atoms were trapped by vacancy type defects.

Absolute measurements of He in metals using chemical treatments

Ito, Yoshifumi*; Batchuluun, C.*; Yasuda, Keisuke*; Ishigami, Ryoya*; Endo, Nobuyuki*

Heisei-18-Nendo Zaidan Hojin Wakasawan Enerugi Kenkyu Senta Kenkyu Seika Hokokushu, 9, p.27 - 30, 2007/09

GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer) with the help of Chemical treatments has been applied to measure amount of helium (He) atoms in metals. Metal samples of cupper (Cu) contained He atoms were prepared using a 200kV ion implantation machine. The samples were solved in 0.5cc volume of 20% nitric acid in a H type reaction tube filled with nitrogen gases at 1 atmospheric pressure and He atoms in Cu metal were exhausted completely into the nitrogen gases. He analysis using GC/MS reveals that the metals contained 10$$^{16}$$ to 10$$^{17}$$ atoms of He. The He signal intensity and He ions implanted to the metals revealed good proportional relation.
