Positron annihilation Doppler broadening and lifetime measurements for these alloys have been carried out using slow positron beam apparatus with an energy range of 0.2 to 30.2 keV. The positron annihilation S-parameter decreased by H ion irradiation. Also the positron lifetimes for hydrogen deposited region in the alloy decreased by the irradiation. These results show that implanted H atoms were trapped by vacancy type defects.

GC/MS (Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometer) with the help of Chemical treatments has been applied to measure amount of helium (He) atoms in metals. Metal samples of cupper (Cu) contained He atoms were prepared using a 200kV ion implantation machine. The samples were solved in 0.5cc volume of 20% nitric acid in a H type reaction tube filled with nitrogen gases at 1 atmospheric pressure and He atoms in Cu metal were exhausted completely into the nitrogen gases. He analysis using GC/MS reveals that the metals contained 10 to 10 atoms of He. The He signal intensity and He ions implanted to the metals revealed good proportional relation.

The laser cutting of thick steel plates with 30 kW fiber laser has been developed. Output of the introduced fiber laser (30 kW, IPG YLS-30000) was collimated with a pair of focusing lens, and was irradiated to stainless steel and carbon steel plates, which were transferred at a constant speed. Assist gas of air at a flow rate of about 500 l/min was used. It was demonstrated in this experiment that thick stainless steel plates up to 300 mm and carbon steel plates up to 300 mm were successfully cut. These results are quite promising for the application of laser cutting to the actual nuclear decommissioning.

Extraction chromatography has been employed to separate minor actinides (MAs) from spent nuclear fuel for the purpose of reducing environmental impact. In our strategy, the polymer-coated SiO particle with an extractant is packed in a column and utilized for group separation and/or isolation of the specific element (Am and Cm, for example) from high level liquid waste. The safety use of chromatography was assessed by irradiation to the adsorbent with He beam and ray to simulate the high-level nuclear waste. In this study, we focused on a recently developed extractant TODGA and its degradation behavior on top of the SiO-P adsorbent was investigated by a similar experimental manner.

Performing the cutting technology development of the large structures such as the nuclear reactors using the high power 30kW fiber laser. Aiming at the introduction to domestic nuclear reactor decommissioning, contribution to accident convergence of the Fukushima first Nuclear Power Plant, it is intended that we plan applications to repair, the dismantling of industry, the deterioration infrastructure.
