Proceedings of 14th International Conference on Ubiquitous Robots and Ambient Intelligence (URAI 2017) (USB Flash Drive), p.561 - 564, 2017/06

This paper describes the current status of the development of a simulation system for remotely operated robots. The system will be used for operator proficiency training and robot performance verification. Our purpose for developing this system is to contribute to decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS). The simulator system was designed using Choreonoid, a simulator development tool. The effects of view disturbances, communication failures, and so on are extended functions that are implemented on the simulator. The effects of water submergence on the physical behavior of underwater robots are also implemented. In this paper, we introduce the prototype of the robotic simulator system with the newly implemented extended functions. Some examples of system output are shown.

We report the results of inelastic neutron scattering measurements on particular phonons of a superconducting (SC) Ca$$_{10}$$Pt$$_4$$As$$_8$$(Fe$$_{1-x}$$Pt$$_x$$As)$$_{10}$$ with the onset transition temperature $$T_c sim 33$$ K to investigate mainly what roles orbital fluctuation plays in Cooper pairing, where we observed a slight softening of the in-plane transverse acoustic mode corresponding to the elastic constant $$C_{66}$$. This softening starts at temperature $$T$$ well above the SC $$T_c$$, as $$T$$ decreases. An anomalously strong change of the scattering intensity of in-plane optical modes was observed at the M point of the pseudo tetragonal reciprocal space in the range of 35 $$< omega <$$ 40 meV with decreasing $$T$$ from far above $$T_c$$. Because this $$omega$$ region mainly corresponds to the motion of Fe and As atoms in the FeAs planes, the finding presents information on the coupling between the orbital fluctuation of Fe $$3d$$ electrons and the lattice system, useful for studying the possible roles of orbital fluctuation in the pairing mechanism and/or the appearance of the so-called nematic phase.

A new chemical method can be applied to isolate the isomers of C$$_{78}$$. The photochemical cycloaddition of a mixture of C$$_{78}$$($$D$$$$_{3}$$) and C$$_{78}$$($$C$$$$_{2v}$$) with disilirane affords only the mono-adduct of the $$C$$$$_{2v}$$ isomer of C$$_{78}$$. The counter part (C$$_{78}$$($$D$$$$_{3}$$)) does not give the mono-adduct with disilirane. The $$D$$$$_{3}$$ isomer itself and the adduct of the $$C$$$$_{2v}$$ isomer of C$$_{78}$$ with disilirane was easily separated by a HPLC procedure. A facile oxidative desilylation of the adduct took place, resulting in the formation of pristine C$$_{78}$$($$C$$$$_{2v}$$). In this context, the separation and the isolation of two isomers of C$$_{78}$$($$C$$$$_{2v}$$) and C$$_{78}$$($$D$$$$_{3}$$) were successfully accomplished by using a silylation-oxidative desilylation process.

Shape optimization using adjoint variable method for reducing drag in Stokes flow

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 58(2), p.119 - 159, 2008/09

An adjoint variable method was formulated and applied to minimize the fluid drag on a 3D object placed under a Stokes flow condition. In the present formulation, a smoothing method for the surface mesh, a method to guarantee the constant volume condition, and a mesh relocation technique base on the biharmonic equation were incorporated, which are crucial in realizing stable and robust shape optimization. The governing equations were solved using a finite element method on moving meshes. To overcome such difficulties as heavy computational burden and large memory requirements, the presented code was implemented with the data compression technology supplied with the software library HEC-MW. Also, by utilizing the HEC-MW, the code was efficiently parallelized and the number of program lines was dramatically reduced. Using the developed code, the fluid drag on a straight cylinder was reduced by about 25% under a Stokes flow condition.

Shape optimization using an adjoint variable method in ITBL grid environment

Shinohara, Kazunori; Okuda, Hiroshi*; Ito, Satoshi*; Nakajima, Norihiro; Ida, Masato

Proceedings of 14th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering (ICONE-14) (CD-ROM), 10 Pages, 2006/07

To decrease the fluid drag force on the surface of a specified object subjected to an unsteady flow, under a constant volume condition, the adjoint variable method is formulated by using FEM. Based on the Lagrange multiplier method (a conditional variational principle), this method consists of the state equation, the adjoint equation and the sensitivity equation. To solve the equations effectively using the steepest descent method, a parallel algorithm that finds the Armijo's line-search step size is constructed. The shape optimization code for solving a large scale 3D problem using a parallel algorithm was implemented on ITBL using the HPC-MW library. Results show that, by using shape optimization, the fluid drag force on the object can be reduced.
