Wildlife within the alert zone have been exposed to low-dose-rate (LDR) radiation for a long and continuous time. In this study, we analysed the morphological characteristics of the testes and in vitro fertilization (IVF) capacity of cryopreserved sperm of raccoons from the ex-evacuation zone of the FDNPP accident. This study revealed that the chronic and LDR radiation exposure associated with the FDNPP accident had no adverse effect on the reproductive characteristics and functions of male raccoons.

using soft-X-ray angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (SX-ARPES). Our results provide direct evidence of an insulator-to-metal transition that occurs upon increasing the dimensionality of the IrO
-plane structure. This transition occurs when the spin-orbit-coupled 
= 1/2 band changes its behavior in the dispersion relation and moves across the Fermi energy. By scanning the photon energy over 350 eV, we reveal the 3D Fermi surface in SrIrO
and 
-dependent oscillations of photoelectron intensity in SrIrO
. To corroborate the physics deduced using low-energy ARPES studies, we propose to utilize SX-ARPES as a powerful complementary technique, as this method surveys more than one whole Brillouin zone and provides a panoramic view of electronic structures.

Times Cited Count：96 Percentile：96.45(Optics)The 13th harmonic of a Ti:sapphire (Ti:S) laser in the plateau region was injected as a seeding source to a 250-MeV free-electron-laser (FEL) amplifier. When the amplification conditions were fulfilled, strong enhancement of the radiation intensity by a factor of 650 was observed. The random and uncontrollable spikes, which appeared in the spectra of the Self-Amplified Spontaneous Emission (SASE) based FEL radiation without the seeding source, were found to be suppressed drastically to form to a narrow-band, single peak profile at 61.2 nm. The properties of the seeded FEL radiation were well reproduced by numerical simulations. We discuss the future precept of the seeded FEL scheme to the shorter wavelength region.

We have investigated the sorption behavior of element 104 rutherfordium (Rf) on an anion exchange resin from HCl and HNO solutions. In the HCl experiments, the distribution coefficients of Rf increase with an increase of HCl concentration from 7.0 M to 11.5 M, indicating that anionic species such as [Rf(OH)Cl
]
or [RfCl
] are formed. This sorption behavior of Rf is typical of the group-4 elements Zr and Hf, and is quite different from that of the pseudo-homologue Th. It is also noted that the distribution coefficients decrease in the order Rf, Zr, Hf at 9.0 M HCl, which is consistent with the expected order of ionic radii. On the other hand, Rf appears to behave like Zr and Hf in 8 M HNO not like Pu and Th.
