Iwasaki, Shun*; Sakai, Yasuhiro*; Kikuchi, Shin; Koga, Nobuyoshi*

Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 147(11), p.6309 - 6322, 2022/06

 Times Cited Count:5 Percentile:41.15(Thermodynamics)

The influence of atmospheric water vapor on the multistep thermal decomposition of perlite concrete was investigated in detail by separating the component reaction steps using kinetic deconvolution analysis (KDA). The retardation of thermal decomposition of Ca(OH)$$_{2}$$ and the acceleration of thermal decomposition of CaCO$$_{3}$$ were identified as specific effect of atmospheric water vapor.

We have established an archive system of livestock and wild animals from the surrounding ex-evacuation zone. Wildlife within the alert zone have been exposed to low-dose-rate (LDR) radiation for a long and continuous time. In this study, we analysed the morphological characteristics of the testes and in vitro fertilization (IVF) capacity of cryopreserved sperm of raccoons from the ex-evacuation zone of the FDNPP accident. This study revealed that the chronic and LDR radiation exposure associated with the FDNPP accident had no adverse effect on the reproductive characteristics and functions of male raccoons.

Fast reactor core seismic experiment and analysis under strong excitation

Yamamoto, Tomohiko; Iwasaki, Akihisa*; Kawamura, Kazuki*; Matsubara, Shinichiro*; Harada, Hidenori*

Proceedings of 2018 ASME Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference (PVP 2018), 8 Pages, 2018/07

To design fast reactor (FR) core components, seismic response must be evaluated in order to ensure structural integrity. Thus, a core seismic analysis method has been developed to evaluate 3D core vibration behavior considering fluid structure interaction and vertical displacements (rising). 1/1.5 scale 37 core element mock-ups hexagonal-matrix experiment was performed to validate the core elements vibration analysis code in three dimensions (REVIAN-3D). Based on the test data, the analysis model newly incorporated to respond to strong excitation was verified.

Core seismic experiment and analysis of full scale single model for fast reactor

Yamamoto, Tomohiko; Kitamura, Seiji; Iwasaki, Akihisa*; Matsubara, Shinichiro*; Okamura, Shigeki*

Proceedings of 2017 ASME Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference (PVP 2017) (CD-ROM), 10 Pages, 2017/07

To design fast reactor (FR) components, seismic response must be evaluated in order to ensure structural integrity. Therefore, a sophisticated analysis method has to be developed to study the seismic response of FR core. The fast reactors are made of several hundred core assemblies in hexagonal arrangement. When a big earthquake occurs, large horizontal displacement and impact force of each core assembly may cause a trouble for control rod insertability and core assembly intensity. Therefore, a seismic analysis method of fast reactor core considering horizontal nonlinear behavior, such as impact, fluid-structure interaction, etc. is needed. Validation of the core assembly vibration analysis code in three dimension (REVIAN-3D) was conducted by a full scale experiment. In this validation, the vertical behavior (raising displacement) and horizontal behavior (Impact force, horizontal response) of the analysis result agreed very well with the experiments.

Mass transport study is mainly performed as part of Phase III in the Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory Project. In Phase III, the goal of mass transport study is to obtain a better understanding of mass transport phenomena in the geological environment as well as to develop technologies for measurement of the mass transport parameters, model construction, numerical analysis and validation of those technologies. This study was planned to understand the influence of the geological characteristics of fracture on the mass transport parameters.

In this study, we systematically investigate three-dimensional(3D) momentum-resolved electronic structures of Ruddlesden-Popper-type iridium oxides Sr$$_{n+1}$$Ir$$_{n}$$O$$_{3n+1}$$ using soft-X-ray angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (SX-ARPES). Our results provide direct evidence of an insulator-to-metal transition that occurs upon increasing the dimensionality of the IrO$$_{2}$$-plane structure. This transition occurs when the spin-orbit-coupled $$j_{eff}$$ = 1/2 band changes its behavior in the dispersion relation and moves across the Fermi energy. By scanning the photon energy over 350 eV, we reveal the 3D Fermi surface in SrIrO$$_{3}$$ and $$k_{z}$$-dependent oscillations of photoelectron intensity in Sr$$_{3}$$Ir$$_{2}$$O$$_{7}$$. To corroborate the physics deduced using low-energy ARPES studies, we propose to utilize SX-ARPES as a powerful complementary technique, as this method surveys more than one whole Brillouin zone and provides a panoramic view of electronic structures.

Influence of boron vapor on transport behavior of deposited CsI during heating test simulating a BWR severe accident condition

Sato, Isamu; Onishi, Takashi; Tanaka, Kosuke; Iwasaki, Maho; Koyama, Shinichi

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 461, p.22 - 28, 2015/06

We observed one of the simplified processes by conducting primitive experiments. CsI was heated at 1323 K to be vaporized and deposited on sampling parts with a temperature range of 1023 - 423 K and then B$$_{2}$$O$$_{3}$$ was vaporized at 1973 K to be reacted with Cs/I there. After heating tests, each sampling part was soaked into alkali water to dissolve the surface-deposits for ICP-MS analysis. The results showed that CsI deposited at the sampling parts kept above approx. 850 K was striped by B$$_{2}$$O$$_{3}$$ vapour. This behaviour will be thermodynamically discussed to study the Cs/I/B chemistry in the severe accidents.

In order to evaluate B influence on the release and transport of Cs and I during severe accidents, basic experiments have been performed on the interaction between deposited Cs/I compounds and vapor/aerosol B compounds. CsI and B$$_{2}$$O$$_{3}$$ were utilized as a Cs/I compound and a B compound, respectively. Deposited CsI on the thermal gradient tube (TGT), which is exposed to temperatures ranging from 423 K to 1023 K was reacted with vapor/aerosol B$$_{2}$$O$$_{3}$$, and then observed to determine how it changed Cs/I decomposition profiles. As a result, vapor/aerosol B$$_{2}$$O$$_{3}$$ stripped a portion of deposited CsI within a temperature range from 830 K to 920 K to make gaseous CsBO$$_{2}$$ and I$$_{2}$$. In addition, gaseous I$$_{2}$$ was re-deposited at a temperature range from 530 K to 740 K, while CsBO$$_{2}$$ travelled through the sampling tubes and filters without deposition. It is implied that B influences Cs carriers such as CsBO$$_{2}$$ to transport Cs to the colder regions.

By introducing 13th- (61.7 nm) and 15th-order harmonics (53.4 nm) of femtosecond laser pulses at 800 nm into an undulator of SCSS (SPring-8 Compact SASE Source) test accelerator at RIKEN, these harmonic pulses were amplified by a factor of more than 10$$^{2}$$ with a high contrast ratio through the interaction between accelerated electron bunches and the harmonic pulses. From numerical simulations of the amplification processes of high-order harmonic pulses in the undulator, optimum conditions of the electron bunch duration interacting with the high-order harmonic pulses were investigated for generating full-coherent and intense pulses in the extreme ultraviolet wavelength region.
