The Low-level Radioactive Waste Disposal Project Center will construct near surface disposal facilities. The disposal facilities consist of concrete pit type for low-level radioactive wastes and trench type for very low level radioactive wastes. As for the trench type disposal facility, two kinds of facility designs are on projects -one for normal trench type disposal facilities and the other for trench type disposal facilities with geomembrane liners that could prevent from causing environmental effects of non radioactive toxic materials. This study examined mechanical strength and permeability properties to assess the durability on the basis of an indoor accelerated exposure experiment targeting the liner materials presumed to avail the conceptual design so far. Its results will be used for the basic and detailed design henceforth by confirming the empirical degradation characteristic with the progress of the exposure time.

Unique origin of skarn at the Ohori base metal deposit, Yamagata Prefecture, NE Japan; C, O and S isotopic study

Yokoro, Yu*; Hanamuro, Takahiro; Nakashima, Kazuo*

Resource Geology, 63(4), p.384 - 393, 2013/10

 Times Cited Count:8 Percentile:37.68(Geology)

The Ohori ore deposit is one of the Cu-Pb-Zn deposits in the Green Tuff region, NE Japan. It consists of a skarn-type (Kaninomata) and a vein-type (Nakanomata) orebody. Carbon isotopic ratios of the skarn calcite are slightly lower than those of the Cretaceous skarn deposits in Japan, since the carbonaceous rock of the Kaninomata orebody originated by hydrothermal activity. Sulfur isotopic ratio of the Kaninomata and Nakanomata orebodies are mostly in a narrow range, the sulfur in both orebodies is thought to have the same origin.

Thermal histry of the alteration zones around hot springs at Hongu area and Totsukawa area, Southern Kii Peninsula, Southwest Japan

Hanamuro, Takahiro; Umeda, Koji; Takashima, Isao*; Negishi, Yoshimitsu*

Ganseki Kobutsu Kagaku, 37(2), p.27 - 38, 2008/03

The high temperature hot springs such as in Yunomine and Tosenji and the hydrothermal alteration zones of the Hongu area are distributed in the southern part of Kii peninsula, though no Quaternary volcanoes exist. In this research, it has aimed to understand the heat history that the rocks received by the measurement technique of several dating methods for distributed Hongu area and Totsukawa area in the high temperature hot springs and the alteration zones. As a result of the TL, FT and K-Ar dating, after the activity of the high temperature alteration until tens of millions of years ago, the activity of the relatively low temperature alteration from at least hundreds of thousands of to tens of thousands of years ago in Hongu area and Totsukawa area. These thermal histories can be understood by combining the measurement techniques of several dating methods.

This is a report of highlights from 2007 spring meetings of seven Topical Groups (TG) of International Tokamak Physics Activity (ITPA). In each meeting, high priority issues in physics of International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) and other burning plasma experiments have been discussed and investigated. Twenty-seven scientists from Japan have participated in those meetings. Dates and places of the meetings are shown below. (1) Diagnostics TG: 26-30 March, Princeton (USA), (2) Transport Physics TG: 7-10 May, Lausanne (Switzerland), (3) Confinement Database and Modeling TG: 7-10 May, Lausanne (Switzerland), (4) Edge Pedestal Physics TG: 7-10 May, Garching (Germany) (5) Steady State Operation TG: 9-11 May, Daejeon (South Korea), (6)MHD TG: 21-24 May, San Diego (USA), (7) Scrape-off-layer and Divertor Physics TG: 7-10 May, Garching (Germany).

Alteration type and thermoluminescence ages of altered rocks in the Mutsu-Hiuchidake volcanic field, Shimokita peninsula, NE Japan

Tomiyama, Shingo*; Umeda, Koji; Hanamuro, Takahiro; Takashima, Isao*; Hayashi, Shintaro*; Negishi, Yoshimitsu*; Masudome, Yukiko*

Ganseki Kobutsu Kagaku, 36(4), p.111 - 121, 2007/07

To clarify a progress history of the alteration accompanied by Mutsu-Hiuchidake volcanic activities, the study on distribution and characteristics of alteration zones and alteration dating at the Mutsu-Hiuchidake Volcano. The results of alteration zoning and alteration dating suggest that alteration zones generated by hydrothermal activities accompanied by Mutsu-Hiuchidake volcanic activities are distributed along the fracture zones and enlarged by fractures or highly permeable zones in the body of volcano and basement. The result of measurement of homogeneous temperatures of fluid inclusion suggests that the highest temperature of these hydrothermal alterations is about 200 to 250$$^{circ}$$C.
