During shut down of the HTTR (High Temperature engineering Test Reactor) RS-14 cycle, an increasing trend of filter differential pressure for the helium gas circulator was observed. In order to investigate this phenomenon, the blower of the primary helium purification system was disassembled and inspected. As a result, it is clear that the silicon oil mist entered into the primary coolant due to the deterioration of the charcoal filter performance. The replacement and further investigation of the filter are planning to prevent the reoccurrence of the same phenomenon in the future.

Times Cited Count:6 Percentile:54.42(Physics, Nuclear)The spallation and fragmentation reactions of Xe induced by proton, deuteron and carbon at 168 MeV/nucleon were studied at RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory via the inverse kinematics technique. The cross sections of the lighter products are larger in the carbon-induced reactions due to the higher total kinetic energy of carbon. The energy dependence was investigated by comparing the newly obtained data with previous results obtained at higher reaction energies. The experimental data were compared with the results of SPACS, EPAX, PHITS and DEURACS calculations. These data serve as benchmarks for the model calculations.

The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) started the Research and Development (R&D) to improve nuclear prediction techniques for High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactors (HTGRs). The objectives are to introduce generalized bias factor method to avoid full mock-up experiment for the first commercial HTGR and to introduce reactor noise analysis to High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) experiment. To achieve the objectives, the reactor core of graphite moderation system named B7/4"G2/8"p8EUNU+3/8"p38EU(1) was newly composed in the B-rack of Kyoto University Critical Assembly (KUCA). The core plays a role of the reference core of the bias factor method, and the reactor noise was measured to develop the noise analysis scheme. In addition, training of operator of HTTR was also performed during the experiments.

The High-Temperature engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) has been developed for establishing and upgrading the technical basis of HTGR.HTTR facilities have their structures, systems and a lot of components including reciprocating gas compressors, commonly used to extract and/or discharge reactor coolant helium gas contained in primary/secondary coolant systems. From the fact of the operational experiences of these compressors, seal-oil leakage has been frequently observed, although rod-seal mechanisms with complicated structures are equipped and improved for preventing coolant helium gas. So, we tried to change the rod-seal materials which might be a primary reason of frequent seal-oil leakage, that resulted in decreasing a mass and frequently of seal-oil leakage. It is confirmed that it is important to select adequate materials of rod seal for sliding speed of the piston of the compressor to prevent seal-oil leakage. Additionally, the procedure to estimate seal-oil leakage for each compressor is discussed. This report describes the results of investigation for improvement on seal-oil leak tightness of the compressors in HTTR facilities.

As a tracer, pulsed beam of Li was implanted into LiGa. By analyzing the time dependent yield of the -particles decaying from Li, diffusion coefficients were extracted with a high accuracy. The ordering of Li vacancies in the Li-deficient phase of LiGa was observed for the first time in terms of the Li diffusion.

Authors developed a radiotracer method for diffusion studies in solids. The experimental test was performed by the measurement of the diffusion coefficients of Li in a sample of the compound LiAl using an -emitting radiotracer of Li(T = 0.84 s). It was found that the time-dependent yields of the alpha particles from the diffusing 8Li that was initially implanted in the sample could be used as a measure of the diffusivity of the tracer in a nondestructive way. The method was applied to measure the self-diffusion coefficients of Li in LiGa, and for investigating how the Li diffusion in the Li ionic conductors is affected by the concentration of atomic defects.

Non-destructive and on-line Li diffusion experiments in Li ionic conductors are conducted using the short-lived -emitting radiotracer of Li. The radiotracers produced as an energetic and pulsed ion beam from TRIAC (Tokai Radioactive Ion Accelerator Complex) are implanted into a structural defect mediated Li ionic conductor of NaTl-type intermetallic compounds -LiGa. The diffusion coefficients obtained for -LiGa with Li content of 43-54 at.% at room temperature are discussed in terms of the interaction between Li-ion and the structural defects in the specimen, compared with the case of -LiAl and -LiIn. The nonlinear Li-content dependency of Li diffusion coefficients for -LiGa suggests that the Li diffusion with Li-deficient region is obstructed by the defect complex composed of vacancies at the Li sites.
