Measurements of electrons from the decay of open-heavy-flavor mesons have shown that the yields are suppressed in Au+Au collisions compared to expectations from binary-scaled $$p+p$$ collisions. Here we extend these studies to two particle correlations where one particle is an electron from the decay of a heavy flavor meson and the other is a charged hadron from either the decay of the heavy meson or from jet fragmentation. These measurements provide more detailed information about the interaction between heavy quarks and the quark-gluon matter. We find the away-side-jet shape and yield to be modified in Au+Au collisions compared to $$p+p$$ collisions.

For interface control and assembly, the CAD data will be exchanged and integrated in a new Data Base server installed at Naka for JT-60SA, where a common computer network efficiently connected between the Naka site for JAEA and the Garching site for F4E is needed to be established. To ensure the design environments, a VPN (Virtual Private Network) was introduced with CAD LAN on computer network physically-separated from JAEA intranet area and firewall. In July 2009, a new VPN connection between the Naka and Garching sites has been successfully demonstrated using IPSec-VPN technology with a commercial and cost-effective firewall/router for security. The VPN technology would provide a common platform for the development of remote experimentation techniques on JT-60SA between Rokkasho and Naka in collaboration with activities of the ITER Remote Experimentation Centre for the IFERC Project at Rokkasho.

Divertor design for the JT-60 SA has been progressing in order to handle large heat flux during full pulse duration of 100 s. Divertor should be suitable for single null plasma experiments with the full power injection of 41 MW. The simulation results using 2D fluid (plasma) and Monte-Carlo (neutral) code are summarized. Lower single-null divertor is designed for ITER-like plasma configuration in order to study physics concept of the ITER divertor: control of the plasma detachment. Simulation results for various divertor geometries showed that the vertical target with V-shaped corner can produce plasma detachment near the outer strike-point for medium edge plasma density. It was also demonstrated that the divertor plasma became attached to move the outer strike point above the V-corner, suggesting that recover from sever detachment can be achieved by changing the plasma location. USN divertor will be designed for high-$$beta$$ plasma experiments with the highest shaping plasma of S=6.

Blanket-plasma interaction is important for plasma performance enhancement and reliability of first-wall/ blanket. Typical examples are harminization of wall stabilization and reduction of EM force during current quench, error field effect by ferritic steel, neutral-wall interaction under wall saturation, etc. JAERI reactor studies, JT-60U and JFT-2M results on this topics will be described.

An attractive operational regime without any large ELMs, namely High Recycling Steady (HRS) H-mode, was found on JFT-2M during Y2000 campaign after boronization. Recent experiments have concentrated on the studies of the access conditions for the HRS regime, in terms of the pedestal parameters. The HRS regime was more likely at higher edge density and lower edge temperature, which corresponds to the normalized electron collisionality of 1 in the plasma edge region.

A comparison of divertor heat load between ELMy and "High Recycling Steady" (HRS) H-mode was carried out by fast measurements of the two dimensional ${it D}$$$alpha$$ emission, and the divertor electron temperature and ion saturation current on JFT-2M. They brought an attractive feature of HRS H-mode that the heat load was reduced to the level on time average that for ELMy H-mode, being able to avoid the severe heat load during pulsed ELM event. It was also indicated that the HRS H-mode was dominated by an enhancement of particle transport, whereas both heat and particle transport increased abruptly at ELM event.

Recent energetic particle physics research has been devoted to Alfven eigenmodes (AEs) in reversed-shear (RS) plasmas, energetic ion transport in the appearance of modes in the frequency range of TAE, energetic ion behavior in the plasma with a current hole, and ripple loss in the complex toroidal field ripple due to ferritic steel plates. We will report these recent progresses for energetic particle physics in JT-60U and JFT-2M.

A new operating regime, High Recycling Steady (HRS) H-mode regime, has been discovered on JFT-2M, which is easily reproduced under the wall fueling from the boronized first wall. Accompanying the HRS H-mode transition, the coherent magnetic and floating potential fluctuations are seen on magnetic probes at vessel wall and Langmuir probe in SOL, respectively. These coherent fluctuations have a frequency of the order of 10-100 kHz with significant variation, which is recognized to be important to enhance the particle transport. The HRS can be seen even at ${it q}$$$_{95}$$$$<$$3 with ${it n}$$$_{e}$$/${it n}$$$_{GW}$$$$>$$0.4 for the fixed delta$$sim$$0.4 in the standard single-null divertor configuration. Recent experimental results from JFT-2M show that the plasma shape also seems to play an important role in determining the type of ELMs. The HRS regime can be extended up to delta$$sim$$0.75 and ${it q}$$$_{95}$$$$sim$$2.6 in the double-null configuration, while lower delta boundary exists at delta$$sim$$0.3 with moderate ${it q}$$$_{95}$$$$sim$$4 even at high recycling and/or density condition of ${it n}$$$_{e}$$/${it n}$$$_{GW}$$$$>$$0.4.
