Estimation of vibration characteristics of nuclear facilities based on seismic observation records

Yamakawa, Koki*; Saruta, Masaaki*; Moritani, Hiroshi*; Yamazaki, Hiroaki*; Nishida, Akemi; Kawata, Manabu; Iigaki, Kazuhiko

Proceedings of 28th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering (ICONE 28) (Internet), 6 Pages, 2021/08

Several large-scale earthquakes have occurred, such as the Niigataken Chuetsu-oki Earthquake in 2007 and the 2011 off-the-Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake. Therefore, a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model to evaluate the local response of the reactor building is currently being developed for seismic response analysis. In order to refine the 3D finite element model, it is important to verify the correspondence to the seismic observation behaviors. In this study, the authors analyze the basic response characteristics, such as the natural frequencies and modes of the reactor building, and evaluate the effects of the amplitude of the seismic excitation on the response characteristics based on seismic observation records. This is done to clarify the behavior of a reactor building during earthquakes. These analyses will assist in quantitatively evaluating the correlation between the natural frequency of the building and the amplitude of the seismic excitation. Furthermore, the ratios of rotational displacement and displacement caused by building deformation for natural modes are discussed.

Development of advanced reprocessing system based on precipitation method using pyrrolidone derivatives as precipitants; Overall evaluation of system

Proceedings of International Conference on Toward and Over the Fukushima Daiichi Accident (GLOBAL 2011) (CD-ROM), 5 Pages, 2011/12

An advanced reprocessing system for spent FBR fuels based on two precipitation processes using pyrrolidone derivatives as precipitants has been developed. Experimental results of precipitation behavior of U, Pu and other elements, the heat- and radiation-resistance of precipitants, the thermal decomposition properties of precipitates showed that N-n-butyl-2-pyrrolidone and N-neopentyl-2-pyrrolidone are the appropriate precipitants for the first and second precipitation steps, respectively. From the engineering investigation, We confirmed that the precipitation and the filtration can be done efficiently using the engineering scale equipment and that the fuel pellets are directly prepared by the calcination of the precipitates. On the basis of these results, we evaluated that the proposed system is expected to be one of candidates of the future reprocessing systems for spent FBR fuels.

Application of magnetic Compton scattering for spin-specific magnetic hysteresis measurement

Agui, Akane; Sakurai, Hiroshi*; Tamura, Takuro*; Kurachi, Toshitaka*; Tanaka, Masahito*; Adachi, Hiromichi*; Kawata, Hiroshi*

Journal of Synchrotron Radiation, 17(3), p.321 - 324, 2010/05

An application of magnetic Compton scattering as a new tool to measure a spin-specific magnetic hysteresis loop was introduced and demonstrated its validity. The applied magnetic field dependence of the integrated intensity of magnetic Compton scattering spectra was interpreted as the spin-specific hysteresis in this study.

Recent progress in the energy recovery linac project in Japan

Sakanaka, Shogo*; Akemoto, Mitsuo*; Aoto, Tomohiro*; Arakawa, Dai*; Asaoka, Seiji*; Enomoto, Atsushi*; Fukuda, Shigeki*; Furukawa, Kazuro*; Furuya, Takaaki*; Haga, Kaiichi*; et al.

Proceedings of 1st International Particle Accelerator Conference (IPAC '10) (Internet), p.2338 - 2340, 2010/05

Future synchrotron light source using a 5-GeV energy recovery linac (ERL) is under proposal by our Japanese collaboration team, and we are conducting R&D efforts for that. We are developing high-brightness DC photocathode guns, two types of cryomodules for both injector and main superconducting (SC) linacs, and 1.3 GHz high CW-power RF sources. We are also constructing the Compact ERL (cERL) for demonstrating the recirculation of low-emittance, high-current beams using above-mentioned critical technologies.

Proceedings of 6th Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan (CD-ROM), p.860 - 862, 2009/08

A newly 500 kV electron gun (2nd - 500 kV gun) for an ERL light source is designed at KEK. A new concept and state of-the-art technologies of vacuum system, ceramic insulators, high voltage power supply, photocathode and preparation system will be employed. The details are described in this report.

Recent progress of construction for compact Energy Recover Linac

Kobayashi, Yukinori*; Sakanaka, Shogo*; Sato, Kotaro*; Kasuga, Toshio*; Kawata, Hiroshi*; Hajima, Ryoichi; Nakamura, Norio*

Proceedings of 6th Annual Meeting of Particle Accelerator Society of Japan (CD-ROM), p.66 - 69, 2009/08

Future synchrotron light source based on the Energy Recovery Linac (ERL) is expected to be capable of producing super-brilliant and/or ultra-short pulses of synchrotron radiation with a potential of the oscillating type for X-ray free electron laser. We are constructing the R&D machine which is called the compact ERL including the developments of an ultra-low emittance electron gun and superconducting cavities for both the injector and the main linacs under the collaboration between KEK, JAEA, ISSP, and other institutes. In this paper, we report recent progress of the construction for the compact ERL with a repair of a KEK east counter hall.
