N atoms on the SiO side of the SiO/SiC interface incorporated by NO annealing, which are plausible cause of charge trapping sites, could be selectively removed by CO-PNA at 1300C without oxidizing the SiC. CO-PNA was also effective in compensating oxygen vacancies in SiO, resulting high immunity against both positive and negative bias-temperature stresses.

The Neutrinos at the Main Injector (NuMI) at Fermilab produces intense neutrino beam to investigate the phenomena of the neutrino mixing and oscillation. The Hadron Absorber, consists of thick blocks of aluminum, iron and concrete, is placed at the end of decay volume as a dump for primary proton and secondary particles generated in NuMI. In order to estimate the shielding effect, the reaction rate measurements with activation detector were carried out on the back surface of the absorber. The induced activities in the detectors were measured by analyzing their -ray spectra using HPGe detectors. Two kind of peak was showed on two-dimensional distributions of obtained reaction rates at right angle to the beam direction. One was strong peaks at the both horizontal side. And, another smaller was at the top. It was concluded that these peaks were the results of particles streaming through the gaps in the Hadron Absorber shielding.

On the basis of our understanding, the optimum conditions of lasers and plasmas were clarified, and we proposed the guidelines of laser plasma to obtain clean, efficient and high power EUV source for the practical EUV lithography system. In parallel to such studies, novel targets and high power laser system to generate the optimized EUV source plasma have been developed.

In order to resume the System Startup Test (SST) of Monju, replacement fuel have to be loaded in exchange for some of initial fuel now loaded in the core to compensate core reactivity lost by decay of Pu-241 in them. The replacement fuel were being stored either in sodium in an ex-vessel storage tank or in air in a storage rack for about 10 years since their fabrication. The initial fuel were irradiated during the SST which was suspended in the end of 1995 and then stayed being loaded in the sodium-circulated core. As this long-term storage and loading may deteriorate mechanical integrity of the assemblies, a study has been made thoroughly on its thermal-hydraulic, structural and material effects on them that might be caused by irradiation in the core, sodium and mechanical environment. The study has shown that the mechanical integrity of them is well maintained even with this long-term storage and loading.

The SAED and CBED data showed that BiMnO crystallizes in the centrosymmetric space group C2/c at 300 K. The analysis of Mn-O bond lengths suggested that the orbital order present in BiMnO at 300 K melts above T= 474 K. The phase transition at 474 K is of the first order and accompanied by a jump of magnetization and small changes of the effective magnetic moment and Weiss temperature.

It was reported that this is a candidate compound to show a magnetic state in the vicinity of the gapped and the Nel ordered state, where the quantum phase transition occurs. Neutron scattering experiments were performed to study the magnetic ground state of this compound. It is found that the system is well described by an almost isolated dimer model, in which dimers are formed between spins along the rung direction and the interaction along the rung direction is much larger than that along the leg direction. The intra-dimer coupling constant is determined to be 5.2 meV. Other interactions were found to be very small.

The construction program of the prototype FBR MONJU which has suspended since the sodium leak accident in 1995 has recently restarted and is under construction to implement various improvements. The test run program following the reconstruction work could roughly divided into two phases of Function test and System start-up test (SST). The requirements, test items and the schedule of the function test program of MONJU have been discussed.
