The J-PARC main ring (MR) will be increased to 1.3 MW. To cope with the increase in beam intensity, the intra-bunch feedback system (IBFB) needs to be upgraded to handle higher frequencies up to about 200 MHz. To evaluate the performance and understand the optimal parameters after this upgrade, we are developing a particle tracking simulation that includes the necessary components. The recoherence period induced by chromaticity between tracking simulations and experiments are compared and it cannot be discribed by the simple simulations, and we investigate what mechanisms explain this result. The shift of synchrotron tune caused by longitudinal wakes using tracking simulations are calculated and it find that introducing the effect of longitudinal wakes only does not explain the recoherence period in the experimental results.

However, a small amount of Pd(II) often remains in these Ag(I) solutions. Therefore, the separation of Pd(II) and Ag(I) in HNO
solutions is essential to promote efficient Pd recycling. In this study, the separation of Pd(II) and Ag(I) in HNO
solutions was investigated using four N-donor-type adsorbents functionalized with amine (R-Amine), iminodiacetic acid (R-IDA), pyridine (R-Py), or bis-picolylamine (R-BPA). R-Amine, R-IDA, and R-Py selectively adsorbed Pd(II) over Ag(I), Cu(II), Ni(II), and Fe(III) from HNO
solutions (0.3-7 M), but R-Amine exhibited a lower Pd adsorption efficiency. In contrast,
90% of Pd(II), Ag(I), and Cu(II) were adsorbed by R-BPA over the entire range of HNO
concentrations. Structural analyses of the adsorbed metal ions using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy revealed the separation mechanisms of the N-donor-type adsorbents. Pd(II) adsorption on R-IDA, R-Py, and R-BPA occurred via Pd(II) coordination of the functional groups (iminodiacetic acid, pyridine, and bis-picolylamine, respectively), whereas that on R-Amine occurred via anion exchange of NO
with [Pd(NO
)
]
. The coordinative adsorption mechanisms resulted in the higher Pd(II) adsorption behaviors of R-IDA, R-Py, and R-BPA. HCl (5.0 M) and thiourea (0.1 M) eluents desorbed 83% of Pd(II) from R-IDA and 95% from R-Py, respectively. R-Py was the most effective Pd(II) adsorbent based on adsorption selectivity and desorption efficiency.

J-PARC MR delivers high intensity proton beams to the neutrino experiment. Eight bunches with high peak currents are extracted from the MR by the extraction kicker, therefore the neutrino beam has the similar structure. Intermediate Water Cherenkov Detector (IWCD) will be installed for the future experiments and the IWCD requires a time structure with low peaks. We consider bunch manipulation at flattop of the MR for reducing the peak current. It should be quickly done to avoid the significant loss of the beam power. The beam gap for the kicker rise time must be kept. We propose a non-adiabatic bunch manipulation using the multiharmonic rf voltage. The longitudinal impedance in the MR can affect the beam stability. The feasibility of the manipulation is discussed by using the longitudinal simulations.

In the J-PARC main ring, density modulation due to longitudinal beam instability occurs during the debunching process of coasting beams. This leads to the generation of an electron cloud, which in turn causes transverse beam instabilities. The transverse beam instability causes beam loss and the electron cloud is assumed to cause vacuum degradation, both of which hinder the beam intensity enhancement, so it is essential to clarify the causes and countermeasures. In particular, the longitudinal impedance of several hundred MHz has been investigated as relevant, and measures to reduce the impedance of individual devices are underway. The Eddy-current type septum magnet, newly installed this year, was found to have a large impedance by simulation. Therefore, we are investigating a method to reduce the impedance by a flange loaded with SiC radio wave absorber, which can be applied to locations where there is no spatial margin to install a taper. In this report, we will discuss the characterization of SiC to be used in actual devices, impedance simulation reflecting the results of SiC evaluation, and evaluation of the effect of impedance countermeasures by impedance measurement using the wire method, and progress in evaluating the effect on the beam by beam simulation and beam study.

For high-power beam realization, it is essential to suppress the beam instability that limits the beam power and to estimate and enact countermeasures against the beam coupling impedance of individual devices. The fast-extraction (FX) septum magnet will be replaced with another magnet that copes with higher numbers of repetition cycles. Despite their different structures, both septa demonstrated a large impedance in estimates performed by the CST studio suite wake-field solver. The widely used taper impedance-reduction method would be effective but receives spatial constraints. By attaching a copper plate and SiC to the flange of the septum magnet, we could effectively reduce the impedance. The copper plate on the flange reduces the impedance below the cut-off frequency. Moreover, when SiC was loaded, the remaining impedance was three times lower than when using the copper plate alone. After applying this method to the new septum magnet, the maximum longitudinal impedance was reduced to 1% of the value without countermeasures, largely improving the beam stability condition. We also estimated the required thickness of SiC and the calorific value. This method saves space and is installed by simple attachment to the flange, regardless of the shape of the beam pipe. Therefore, it is also applicable to other devices.

by sedimentary rock was investigated to understand the sorption process of metal ions and humic substances. Aldrich humic acid (HA) solution was irradiated with different doses of gamma irradiation using a Co-60 gamma-ray source prior to the contact between the metal ions and the solid sorbent. The HA molecule decomposed to smaller molecules with a lower complexation affinity. Batch sorption experiments were performed to evaluate the effect of gamma-irradiated HA on the sorption of Cs
and Eu
ions. The addition of non-irradiated HA weakened the sorption of Eu because of the lower sorption of the neutral or negatively charged Eu-HA complexes compared with free Eu ions. The sorption of monovalent Cs ions was barely affected by the presence of HA and its gamma irradiation. The concentration ratio of HA complexed species and non-complexed species in the solid and liquid phases was evaluated by sequential filtration and chemical equilibrium calculations. The ratios supported the minimal contribution of HA to Cs sorption. However, the concentration ratio for Eu
in the liquid phase was high, indicating that the complexing ability of HA to Eu
was higher than that of HA to Cs
ions. Therefore, the sorption of free Eu
would predominate with the gamma irradiation dose applied to the HA solution under a radiation field near the HLW package.

For safely and efficiently operating a spallation neutron source and a muon target, a general control system (GCS) operates within Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF), GCS administers operation processes and interlocks of many instruments for various operation statuses. It consists of several subsystems such as an integral control system (ICS), interlock systems (ILS), shared servers, network system, and timing distribution system (TDS). Although GCS is an independent system that controls the target stations, it works closely with the control systems of other facilities in J-PARC. Since the first beam injection in 2008, GCS has operated stably without any serious troubles after modification based on commissioning for operation and control. Then, significant improvements in GCS such as upgrade of ICS by changing its framework software and function enhancement of ILS were proceeded until 2015, in considering sustainable long-term operation and maintenance. In recent years, many instruments in GCS have replaced due to end of production and support of them. In this way, many modifications have been proceeded in the entire GCS after start of beam operation. Under these situation, it is important to comprehend upgrade history and present status of GCS in order to decide its upgrade plan for the coming ten years. This report will mention upgrade history, present status and future agenda of GCS.

A vertical movement type of sample changer for the neutron spectrometer BL02, J-PARC MLF was developed for our top-loading type cryostat. The sample changer, termed as "PEACE", can control reproducibility of the irradiated position using guides made of polyether ether ketone. The variation between the background scattering profiles of three sample positions was found to be less than plus minus 1.6%. This result is reasonable, considering the deviation of sample position of less than plus minus 0.3 mm from the vertical axis.

The position dependence of the scattered intensity in the time-of-flight backscattering spectrometer DNA was investigated. A periodic structure for both vertical (pixel) and horizontal (PSD) directions was observed. The solar slit and over-bending of an analyzer crystal is discussed as a possible origin of the modulation in the intensity. We have developed software program for the systematic correction of the position-dependent intensity and offset energy for the elastic peak. This corrects the deviation from the true scattering intensity and improve the quality of the data, which includes the energy resolution.
