Worldwide status and issue of nuclear safety against pandemic

Kobayashi, Tetsuro*; Takata, Takashi; Narumiya, Yoshiyuki*; Iida, Susumu*

Nihon Genshiryoku Gakkai-Shi ATOMO$$Sigma$$, 63(1), p.50 - 54, 2021/01

Since December 2019, the new coronavirus infectious disease COVID-19, which has occurred mainly in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, rapidly spread as a pandemic (a global pandemic of infectious diseases). And thus it affected financial and social issues extremely. In this paper, the current status and issues of non-medical measures in Japan and overseas are explained with regard to the safety of nuclear facilities against pandemics.

JAEA has been performing dose rate mapping in air using a car-borne survey system KURAMA-II. The KURAMA system is a GPS-aided mobile radiation monitoring system that has been newly developed by Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute in response to the nuclear disaster. The KURAMA system is composed of an energy-compensated scintillation survey meter for measuring dose rate, electric device for controlling both the dose rates and the position data from a GPS module, a computer server for processing and analyzing data from KURAMA, and client PCs for providing for end users. The KURAMA-II has been improved in small-packaging, durability, and automated data transmission. In consequence, dose rate mapping in wide area has become possible in shorter period of time. This report describes the construction of KURAMA-II, its application and a suggestion of how to manage a large number of KURAMA-II.

Maintenance activities in chemical processing facility, 1; Renewal of driving unit of negative pressure control valves

Kobayashi, Yuki; Takahashi, Tetsuro; Shinozaki, Tadahiro; Ogasawara, Koji; Koizumi, Kenji; Nakajima, Yasuo

Nihon Hozen Gakkai Dai-7-Kai Gakujutsu Koenkai Yoshishu, p.161 - 166, 2010/07

The negative pressure control valve is reliable apparatus which has been used in many nuclear facilities. In recent years, there are some troubles on those valves in CPF (Chemical Reprocessing Facility) by the aged deterioration because the valves were kept using for more than 25 years after facility had operated. Therefore, we have been carrying out renewal of driving units of the valves to assure performance of negative pressure control function and to keep stability of operation of the facility. In this presentation, we report knowledge provided through the renewal work, such as the renewal procedure, the deterioration situation of components and the cause of troubles.

Examination of determination to Pu amount in LASW from TRP

Kaku Busshitsu Kanri Gakkai (INMM) Nihon Shibu Dai-27-Kai Nenji Taikai Rombunshu (CD-ROM), 7 Pages, 2006/00

Tokai Reprocessing Center has developed method of determination of Pu contained in low activity solid wastes (LASWs), to make better accountancy control. Our final goal is to estimate of Pu amounts in wastes generated in TRP. Some of small size wastes (carton-boxes) and drums from TRP was measured by some kind of non-destructive assay system. It was found that high dose wastes have slight amounts of Pu. However, because some of wastes from TRP have Cm, the wastes could not be measured exactly. Near future, JAEA will try upgrading or development of NDA system, and determination of Pu amount of wastes from TRP.
