The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of resin injection to repair cracks in ultra-high-strength concrete (UHSC) members. As a preliminary step, the applicability of the neutron diffraction method (NDM) to investigate the effect of repairs in UHSC specimens was examined. The experimental results showed that the NDM can measure stresses in rebars in UHSC and normal concrete specimens. Therefore, in this experiment, the NDM was used to measure the bond performance of repairs with epoxy resin around the slit in normal concrete and UHSC specimens and examine the effect of repair on the UHSC specimens. Displacement around the slit was measured using a PI-shape displacement transducer. The evaluation confirmed that the bond performance of the repaired area was recovered by resin injection regardless of the concrete strength. In addition, the displacement around the slit was smaller for the injected specimens than the noninjected specimens. These experimental results clarified that by injecting resin, the same bond repair effect could be obtained in UHSC and normal concrete specimens.

The BaTiO $$_3$$ nanoparticles synthesized by the hydrothermal method is examined by synchrotron X-ray and TEM observation. It was found that the particle size of synthesized BaTiO$$_3$$ depends on the particle size of the raw material of TiO$$_2$$. Succeeded in synthesizing 100 nm size BaTiO$$_3$$ nanocrystals showing uniform particle size distribution using TiO$$_2$$ nanoparticles with optimized particle size. The obtained BaTiO$$_3$$ nanocrystal is a tetragonal system of ferroelectric phase. A three-dimensional structure of BaTiO$$_3$$ nanoparticles could be obtained by the electron beam tomography.

We succeeded in synthesizing barium titanate nanocubes by hydrothermal synthesis. When the nanocubes were examined in detail using a scanning electron microscope, pulsed neutrons, and large synchrotron radiation, it was found that a reconstituted layer of titanium oxide was formed on the surface.

X-ray absorption near edge structure (XANES) and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) reveal the damaged structures in MgAl$$_{2}$$O$$_{4}$$ spinel induced by swift heavy ions. SAXS indicates the formation of ion tracks with cylindrical shape with a diameter of 5 nm. XANES indicates the cationic disordering between tetrahedral and octahedral sites by the irradiation. Quantitative analysis of XANES also reveals that cations preferably occupy the octahedral sites at high fluence.

Cationic disorder in the MgAl$$_{2}$$O$$_{4}$$ spinel induced by swift heavy ions was investigated using the X-ray absorption near edge structure. With changes in the irradiation fluences of 200 MeV Xe ions, the Mg K-edge and Al K-edge spectra were synchronously changed. The calculated spectra based on density function theory indicate that the change in the experimental spectra was due to cationic disorder between Mg in tetrahedral sites and Al in octahedral sites. These results suggest a high inversion degree to an extent that the completely random configuration is achieved in MgAl$$_{2}$$O$$_{4}$$ induced by the high density electronic excitation under swift heavy ion irradiation.

Development of $$^{99}$$Mo-$$^{rm 99m}$$Tc domestic production with high-density MoO$$_{3}$$ pellets by (n,$$gamma$$) reaction

Tsuchiya, Kunihiko; Tanase, Masakazu*; Takeuchi, Nobuhiro*; Kobayashi, Masaaki*; Hasegawa, Yoshio*; Yoshinaga, Hideo*; Kaminaga, Masanori; Ishihara, Masahiro; Kawamura, Hiroshi

Proceedings of 5th International Symposium on Material Testing Reactors (ISMTR-5) (Internet), 10 Pages, 2012/10

As one of effective uses of the JMTR, JAEA has a plan to produce $$^{99}$$Mo by (n, $$gamma$$) method, a parent nuclide of $$^{rm 99m}$$Tc. In case of Japan, the supplying of $$^{99}$$Mo depends only on imports from foreign countries. The R&D on production method of $$^{99}$$Mo -$$^{rm 99m}$$Tc has been performed with Japanese industrial users under the cooperation programs. The main R&D items for the production are (1) Fabrication of irradiation target such as the sintered MoO$$_{3}$$ pellets, (2) Separation and concentration of $$^{rm 99m}$$Tc by the solvent extraction from Mo solution, (3) Examination of $$^{rm 99m}$$Tc solution for a medicine, and (4) Mo recycling from Mo generator and solution. In this paper, the status of the R&D is introduced for the production of $$^{99}$$Mo -$$^{rm 99m}$$Tc.

A 500-kV photocathode DC electron gun which can supply the beam of a low emittance and a high average current has been developed in collaboration with KEK, JAEA, Hiroshima Univ., Nagoya Univ. and Yamaguchi Univ. The vacuum of the gun chamber has to be lower Extreme High Vacuum for maintain cathode-life time. A titanium chamber and new material of ceramic were employed to reduce outgassing rate. The result of outgassing rate of the gun chamber is described in this report.
