Ar were investigated by in-beam
-ray spectroscopy following proton- and neutron-knockout, multinucleon removal, and proton inelastic scattering at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory. The energies of the two previously reported transitions have been confirmed, and five additional states are presented for the first time, including a candidate for a 3
state. The level scheme built using
coincidences was compared to shell-model calculations in the
model space and to
predictions based on chiral two- and three-nucleon interactions. Theoretical proton- and neutron-knockout cross sections suggest that two of the new transitions correspond to 2
states, while the previously proposed 4
state could also correspond to a 2
state.

In this paper, free-surface characteristics of liquid Li wall jets studied for the Li target of the International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) are comprehensively reviewed. In the development of the IFMIF Li target, scientific understanding of free-surface wave characteristics and development of diagnostic tools for measuring those characteristics were critical issues. Other liquid metal applications in the fusion engineering, such as a liquid first wall or a liquid diverter, have common issues as well. At present, the authors have developed diagnostic tools to measure all the wave characteristics and average jet thickness, and have shown applicable probability distributions to those wave parameters as well as statistical characteristic values of them, leading to the validation of the stable IFMIF Li target. Our research outcomes can be applied to not only the IFMIF Li target, but also innovative liquid metal diverter or first wall concepts.

The comparisons for the reaction rates in the Nb, Ni and In foils indicate that measurements and calculations of the fast neutron transport are consistent almost within 10%. In the comparison for the reaction rates in the Au foils, the underestimation of 15% was found at a surface of the V-alloy layer. There is a possibility that this is due to the elastic scattering cross section of V around 4 keV as previously reported. The comparisons for tritium production rates in the
Li enriched and

-particles with 14.2 MeV neutron incidence. An improved charged-particle spectrometer with a pencil DT-neutron beam furnished at the FNS facility of Japan Atomic Energy Agency enabled us to obtain precise data with a fine energy resolution in wide energy range and angular range from 15 to 150
. The obtained data were compared with the nuclear data evaluated in JENDL-3.3 and ENDF/B-VII.0. As a result, large differences in the energy and angular distributions of emitted particles and the charged-particle production cross sections were found between the measured and evaluated data. Angular-differential cross sections for several discrete peaks corresponding to excited states of residual nuclei were extracted to discuss the reaction mechanism of charged-particle emission. The obtained data suggest that the charged-particle emission reaction of fluorine has a quite complicated mechanism where both the direct reaction process and the pre-equilibrium process contribute. The present experiment is the first simultaneous measurement of the four different kinds of charged particles and would provide useful data to confirm previous experimental data as well as to establish a nuclear reaction model of fluorine.

-rays produced in inverse Compton-scattering of laser photons with relativistic electrons. The data were analyzed with a least-squares method to deduce photoneutron cross sections. The analysis significantly reduced experimental uncertainties compared with those resulted from the photon difference method. The result is compared with the previous data by direct neutron-counting with
-rays produced in positron annihilation in flight and by photoactivation with bremsstrahlung. The present data are in good agreement with the previous data near neutron threshold, while there remain some discrepancies between the present and the previous data above 10 MeV.

This paper focuses on flatness of the liquid Li target. A Li flow experiment was conducted in Osaka University Li Loop with a test section which was 1/2.5 scaled model of IFMIF. A thickness of the Li flow was measured and obtained by a contact method which was developed for the measurement. Analytical study on Kelvin wake and numerical calculation on wakes near side walls of the flow channel were also conducted and compared with the experimental results. As the results, positions of wake crest obtained from both of the experiment and numerical calculation assuming contact angle 140
agreed well with an iso-phase line of the analytical model. Generation of the wake are likely depends on wettability between Li and a structural material which is 304SS in the present study.
