Sc. For
Ca, a
ray transition was measured to be 1456(12) keV, while for
Ca an indication for a transition was observed at 1115(34) keV. Both transitions were tentatively assigned as the
decays. A shell-model calculation in a wide model space with a marginally modified effective nucleon-nucleon interaction depicts excellent agreement with experiment for
level energies, two-neutron separation energies, and reaction cross sections, corroborating the formation of a new nuclear shell above the N = 34 shell. Its constituents, the
and
orbitals, are almost degenerate. This degeneracy precludes the possibility for a doubly magic
Ca and potentially drives the dripline of Ca isotopes to
Ca or even beyond.

In the J-PARC linac, H beams are accelerated to 191~MeV by a separated drift tube linac (SDTL) and subsequently to 400~MeV by an annular-ring coupled structure (ACS). Because there are more beam loss mechanisms in H
linacs than in proton linacs, it is imperative to investigate the beam loss circumstances for beam loss mitigation. Electron-stripping phenomena, which generate uncontrollable H
particles, are characteristic beam loss factors of H
linacs. To clarify the beam loss causes in the J-PARC linac, a new diagnostic line was installed in the beam transport between the SDTL and ACS. In this diagnostic line, H
particles were separated from the H
beam, and the intensity profiles of the H
particles were successfully measured by horizontally scanning a graphite plate in the range where H
particles were distributed. By examining the intensity variation of the H
particles with different residual pressure levels, we proved that half of the H
particles in the SDTL section are generated by the residual gas stripping in the nominal beam operation of the J-PARC linac.

100 MeV/nucleon. Our results provide the first quantitative contributions of multiple reaction mechanisms including the quasifree knockout, inelastic scattering, and nucleon transfer processes. It is shown that the inelastic scattering and nucleon transfer, usually neglected at such energy regime, contribute about 50% and 30% to the loosely bound proton and deeply bound neutron removal, respectively.

orbital in neutron-rich Ca isotopes is responsible for the unexpected linear increase of the charge radius with the neutron number.

A muon linac is under development for future muon g-2/EDM experiments at J-PARC. The linac provides a 212 MeV muon beam to an MRI-type compact storage ring. After the initial acceleration using the electrostatic field created by mesh and cylindrical electrodes, the muons are accelerated using four types of radio-frequency accelerators. To validate the linac design as a whole, end-to-end simulations were performed using General Particle Tracer. In addition, error studies were performed to investigate the effects on beam and spin dynamics of various errors in the accelerator components and input beam distribution. This paper describes the results of the end-to-end simulations and error studies.

Ca were investigated through
-ray and invariant-mass spectroscopy. Level energies were calculated from the nuclear shell model employing a phenomenological inter-nucleon interaction. Theoretical cross sections to states were calculated from distorted-wave impulse approximation estimates multiplied by the shell model spectroscopic factors. Despite the calculations showing a significant amplitude of excited neutron configurations in the ground-state of
Sc, valence proton removals populated predominantly the ground-state of
Ca. This counter-intuitive result is attributed to pairing effects leading to a dominance of the ground-state spectroscopic factor. Owing to the ubiquity of the pairing interaction, this argument should be generally applicable to direct knockout reactions from odd-even to even-even nuclei.

Together with the intensity upgrade in J-PARC Linac Front-End, improvement of RFQ transmission ratio is an important task. This RFQ transmission ratio depends strongly upon the solenoid current settings in the low energy beam transport line (LEBT). In the present study, high beam current cases (72 mA and 88 mA H beam current in LEBT) are investigated at a test-stand. Phase space distributions of the H
beam particles at the RFQ entrance are measured and compared with numerical results by Particle-In-Cell simulation. As a result, it has been clarified that a 15 mm
orifice for differential pumping of H
gas coming from the ion source plays a role as a collimator in these beam conditions. This leads to change the beam emittance and Twiss parameters at the RFQ entrance. Especially in the condition with the beam current up to 88 mA in LEBT, the beam collimation contributes to optimize the phase space distribution to the RFQ acceptance with relatively low solenoid current settings. As a higher solenoid current setting would be necessary to suppress the beam expansion due to high space charge effect, these results suggest that current-saving of the solenoids can be possible even in the higher beam intensity operations.

component and the halo features reported in prior experiments can be explained by the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum, revealing a definite but not dominant neutron halo in
B. The present work gives the smallest

-orbital component among known nuclei exhibiting halo features and implies that the dominant occupation of
or
orbitals is not a prerequisite for the occurrence of a neutron halo.

The energies of the two previously reported transitions have been confirmed, and five additional states are presented for the first time, including a candidate for a 3
state. The level scheme built using
coincidences was compared to shell-model calculations in the
model space and to
predictions based on chiral two- and three-nucleon interactions. Theoretical proton- and neutron-knockout cross sections suggest that two of the new transitions correspond to 2
states, while the previously proposed 4
state could also correspond to a 2
state.

Ti were populated via the
V(

)
Ti reaction at
200 MeV/nucleon at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory and studied using
-ray spectroscopy. The energies of the
and
transitions, observed here for the first time, indicate a deformed Ti ground state. These energies are increased compared to the neighboring
Cr and
Fe isotones, suggesting a small decrease of quadrupole collectivity. The present measurement is well reproduced by large-scale shell-model calculations based on effective interactions, while ab initio and beyond mean-field calculations do not yet reproduce our findings.
