Recent studies on breakup reactions with the continuum-discretized coupled channels method are reviewed. The topics covered are: four-body breakup processes for $$^6$$He induced reaction, dynamical relativistic effects on coulomb breakup, microscopic description of projectile breakup processes, description of ternary processes (new triple-$$alpha$$ reaction rate) and new approach to inclusive breakup processes.

$$Xi$$-nucleus potential and ($$K^{-}$$,$$K^{+}$$) inclusive spectrum at $$Xi^{-}$$ production threshold region

The ($$K^{-}$$,$$K^{+}$$) $$Xi^{-}$$ production inclusive spectrum is reinvestigated in view of the very weak $$Xi$$-nucleus potential predicted by microscopic calculations with the SU$$_{6}$$ quark-model baryon-baryon interaction. The inclusive spectrum is evaluated by the semiclassical distorted wave (SCDW) method. The explicit comparison of the strength function with that of the Green function method demonstrates the quantitative reliability of the SCDW approximation. It is presumed that the presently available data at the $$Xi$$ production threshold region does not necessarily imply the attractive strength of the order of $$-15$$ MeV for the $$Xi$$-nucleus potential in a conventional Woods-Saxon form. Instead, an almost zero potential is preferable.

The inclusive $$K^+$$ momentum spectrum in the $$^{12}$$C$$(K^-,K^+)$$ reaction is calculated by the semiclassical distorted wave (SCDW) model, including the transition to the $$it Xi^-$$ bound state. We compare the calculated results with those of the previous analysis with Green's function method and that with the intra-nuclear cascade (INC) model, and examine the validity of the assumptions made in those analyses. The calculated spectra with the strength of the $$it Xi^-$$-nucleus potential $$-50$$, $$-20$$ and $$+10$$ MeV are compared with the experimental data measured at High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) with $$p_{K^-}=1.65$$ $${rm GeV}/c$$. The shape of the spectrum is reproduced by the calculation, and the inclusive spectrum changes systematically with the assumed strength of the $$it Xi^-$$-nucleus potential, but no useful constraint on the strength is obtained from the present analysis.

The actinide-hydride fuel is an excellent integral fuel - moderator system. The concentration of hydrogen in the actinide hydride is comparable to that of hydrogen in liquid water of LWR cores. We have proposed new type of reactor core to reduce the amoun

The data on the production of a hyperon $$Y$$ in strangeness exchange reactions $$(pi^+,K^+)$$, $$(pi^-,K^+)$$, $$(K^-,K^+)$$ etc. have been principal sources of information on the single-particle potential of hyperon that reflects the properties of the underlying $$Y$$-$$N$$ interaction. In the present paper, we calculate the inclusive $$K^+$$ spectrum in the $$^{12}$$C$$(K^-,K^+)$$ reaction at a beam momentum of 1.65 GeV/c with the semiclassical distorted wave (SCDW) model, and aim to clarify the reaction mechanisms in detail. We will also discuss the role of multi-step processes, which can easily be included in the SCDW model analysis, in the study of the hyperon single-particle potential.

We calculated the inclusive $$K^+$$ spectrum in the $$(K^-,K^+)$$ reaction on some heavy targets at a beam momentum of 1.65 GeV/c with the semiclassical distorted wave (SCDW) model. In the present paper, we show the dependence of the spectrum on the target nucleus, and discuss the reaction mechanism in detail.
