Development of remote pipe welding tool for divertor cassettes in JT-60SA

Hayashi, Takao; Sakurai, Shinji; Sakasai, Akira; Shibanuma, Kiyoshi; Kono, Wataru*; Onawa, Toshio*; Matsukage, Takeshi*

Fusion Engineering and Design, 101, p.180 - 185, 2015/12

Remote pipe welding tool accessing from inside pipe has been newly developed for JT-60SA. Remote handling (RH) system is necessary for the maintenance and repair of in-vessel components such as lower divertor cassettes in JT-60SA. Cooling pipes, which connects between the divertor cassette and the vacuum vessel with bellows are required to be cut and welded in the vacuum vessel by RH system. The available space for RH system is very limited inside the vacuum vessel, especially around the divertor cassettes. Thus, the cooling pipes are required to be cut and weld from the inside in the vacuum vessel. The inner diameter, thickness and material of the cooling pipe are 54.2 mm, 2.8 mm and SUS316L, respectively. An upper pipe connected to the divertor cassette has a jut on the edge to fill the gap between pipes. Owing to the jut and two-times welding, the welding tool achieved the maximum allowable gap of 0.7 mm.

Mechanical properties of weldments using irradiated stainless steel welded by the laser method for ITER blanket replacement

Yamada, Hirokazu*; Kawamura, Hiroshi; Nagao, Yoshiharu; Takada, Fumiki; Kono, Wataru*

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 355(1-3), p.119 - 123, 2006/09

In this study, the bending properties of welding joint of irradiated material and un-irradiated material (irradiated/un-irradiated joints) were investigated using SS316LN-IG, which is the candidate material for the cooling pipe of ITER. The results of this study showed that the bending position of joints using un-irradiated material was un-irradiated part and that the bending position of irradiated/irradiated joints was fusion area or HAZ (heat affected zone). Although the bending position of joints was different bor the combination pattern between irradiated and un-irradiated materials, the bending strength of joint was almost same. Additionally, it is confirmed that bending strength did not depend on the combination pattern between the irradiated and un-irradiated materials, nor on the relationship between the heat input direction and the bending load direction.

This working group has been translating into Japanese the publication "Practical Guidance for Engagement with the Public on Radiation and Risk" by IRPA in 2020. This publication was made with the theme of public understanding, which was one of key issues that the consultation by IRPA to its member societies identified as most necessary in the radiation protection system. The translated guidance is supposed to be distributed to radiation protection experts and relevant communities in Japan who may be interested in public understanding. The purpose of this symposium is to share the working progress and important points of the guidance.

The WG has translated the "Practical Guidance for Engagement with the Public on Radiation and Risk" ("IRPA Guidance") issued by the International Radiation Protection Association ("IRPA") to its member societies in 2020. "Practical Guidance for Engagement with the Public on Radiation and Risk" (hereinafter referred to as "IRPA Guidance") published by the International Radiological Protection Association (hereinafter referred to as "IRPA") in 2020 for its member societies, and to provide the information to radiation protection experts and other interested.

The WG has translated the "Practical Guidance for Engagement with the Public on Radiation and Risk" ("IRPA Guidance") issued by the International Radiation Protection Association ("IRPA") to its member societies in 2020. "The content of the IRPA guidance was presented at a symposium organized by the Health Physics Society of Japan in June 2020. The content of the IRPA guidance was presented at the Health Physics Society planning symposium held in June 2020, where many experts attended and provided feedback. In this planning session, we will focus on public engagement and related specific examples and situations related to public engagement.
