International Joint Project of fusion experimental reactor, the ITER is reviewed in view of long range fusion energy research and development. Its purpose, goal, evolution and the present construction status are briefly reviewed. While the ITER is a core machine in the present stage, generation of electricity is a role of the next step fusion demonstration power plant "DEMO". Status of designs and technology R&D for DEMO are also reviewed.

This is the article of plant design for Tokamak type nuclear fusion reactor. The feature and their required capacity of power supply system, tritium handling system and cooling system are described. Especially, the power supply system to be used for pulsed power load was explained in detail using examples of ITER and next generation Tokamak from a view point of necessary energy, power perturbation of grid and new energy storage system.

This is the review of past fusion R&D project of Japan, and summarized necessary research and development at each stage of the experimental reactor, the DEMO reactor and the commercial reactor based on the fusion program of other countries. This review is described in particular a specific plan of ITER and broader approach in relation with the R&D process toward the DEMO reactor and the role of the DEMO reactor. The background and the vision of a step-by-step R&D of other countries are also described.

Seven Parties have initiated the ITER construction program. The framework, organization, and schedule for construction are briefly introduced. The Broader Approach program is the EU-Japan bilateral program comprised of modification of the JT-60 tokamak in Naka-shi, and the International Fusion Energy research Center at Rokkasho, Aomori. The activities have just started from the construction of the site preparation and construction of the buildings.
