In Japan Atomic Energy Agency Nuclear Science Research Institute waste treatment building No.2 treat intermediate-level solid waste. Solid wastes are reduced in volume by compaction. They are then canned in stainless can, which are subsequently put in 200-liter concrete-lined drums or 1-m concrete containers, filled with concrete. To prepare for disposal in future, be able to make fit with the technical standard of waste package, we were asked to change the lid type shielded container. Therefore due to the change of lid type shielded container, we confirmed integrity of it with evaluation of close volt by drop analysis, evaluation of shielding, and drop test with a prototype model.

We performed normal mode analysis of the elastic network model on integrin ectodomain in the bent form and identified key residues which were influential on molecular motions. Iterative normal mode calculations demonstrated that the specific non-bonded interactions involving the key residues work as a snap to keep integrin in the bent form. The importance of the key residues for the conformational change was further verified by mutation experiments. Conservation pattern of amino acid residues among integrin family showed that the characteristic pattern of residues seen around these key residues is found in the limited groups of integrin chains.

This reprocessing system is based on the experimental evidence indicating that hexavalent plutonium is co-crystallized with uranyl nitrate. The system consists of five steps: dissolution of spent fuel, Pu oxidation, U-Pu co-crystallization, dissolution of the crystals, and U crystallization. The system does not require organic solvent, expecting the enhancement of safety and cost-effectiveness. The system requires a recycling of the mother liquor from the U-Pu co-crystallization step to recover almost entire amount of U and Pu. The appropriate recycle ratio is determined for LWR fuels, such that the satisfactory decontamination is achieved. The mother liquor from the U re-crystallization step contains U and Pu. The flowsheet study shows that the constant ratio of Pu to U in the mother liquor can be controlled even though the composition of the spent fuel is different.

J-PARC is a large scale facility of the proton accelerators for the multi-purpose of scientific researches in Japan. This facility consists of three accelerators and three experimental stations. Now, J-PARC is under construction, and LINAC is operated for one year, 3GeV synchrotron has just started the commissioning in this October the 1st. The completion of this facility will be next summer. The control system of accelerators established fundamental performance for the initial commissioning. The most important requirement to the control system of this facility is to minimize the activation of accelerator devices. In this paper, we show that the performances of each layer of this control system have been achieved in the initial stage.

UCuSi is found to order antiferromagnetically below = 106 K, and follows a successive ferromagnetic ordering at = 100 K. The magnetic properties are highly anisotropic, reflecting the crystal structure. An easy-axis of magnetization is found to be the [001] direction (-axis) both in the antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic phases, while the [100] direction (-axis) corresponds to the hard-axis in magnetization. The magnetization curve in the antiferromagnetic phase indicates a clear metamagnetic transition at a low field of about 1 kOe and changes smoothly into a ferromagnetic magnetization curve below = 100 K. The saturation moment is determined as 1.75/U at 2 K. The electronic specific heat coefficient is also determined as 20 mJ/Kmol.

This report summarizes the activity (FY2000-2003) of Working Group (WG) on Evaluation of Nuclide Generation and Depletion under Subcommittee on Nuclear Fuel Cycle of Japanese Nuclear Data Committee. In the WG, analyses of Post Irradiation Examinations have been carried out for UO and MOX fuels irradiated in PWRs, BWRs and FBRs, and for actinide samples irradiated in fast reactors, by using ORIGEN or more detailed calculation codes with their libraries based on JENDL-3.2, JENDL-3.3 and other foreign nuclear data files. From these results, current prediction accuracy and problems for evaluation of nuclide generation and depletion are discussed. Furthermore, this report covers other products of our activity; development of the ORIGEN libraries for PWR, BWR and FBR based on JENDL-3.3, study on introduction of neutron spectrum index to ORIGEN calculations, and results of questionnaire survey on desirable accuracy of ORIGEN calculations.

The electronic and spin state of the perpendicular magnetization film TbFeCo was investigated by means of magnetic circular dichroism spectroscopy for each element. The samples are TbFeCo while the ratio of a rare-earth metal Tb to transition metals Fe and Co is constant, the composition ratio of Fe and Co is changed. Changing the ratio, we estimated the expected orbital moments of Tb 4f electrons. The macroscopic magnetic property is studied from the microscopic point of view.
