ITER国際チームは、日本原子力研究所との共同で、国際熱核融合実験炉(ITER)の超伝導コイルを冷却するためのヘリウム冷凍システムを設計した。本冷凍機は、核融合試験装置用としては世界最大規模であり、4Kで48kWの冷凍能力と0.16kg/sの超臨界ヘリウムの供給能力を有する。本設計には、原研のITER中心ソレノイド・コイルの冷却で実績のある、超臨界ヘリウム・ポンプと低温排気圧縮機の技術が採用されている。ITERでは、低温熱負荷がプラズマ燃焼試験と共に変動するので、冷凍機の動作が不安定になることを避けるために、熱負荷を平準化する機構を冷凍システムに設けた。この様な工夫により、冷凍システムの規模を極力小さくすることができるとともに、コイルを安定に運転することが可能となった。

Eu) in radioactive waste was proposed and issues to be solved for implementation was organized and investigated. The target are waste generated in the frame of the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi NPP after the severe accident, with a very high dose rate (10 Sv/h on the surface of the container). Using Monte Carlo simulations, a measurement system was studied in order to verify the adequacy between these circumstances and the capacity of the system to respond to them, especially for the measurement range and the performances for detection limit. In addition, issues and solution policy for the system implementation was also examined.
