Future synchrotron light source using a 5-GeV energy recovery linac (ERL) is under proposal by our Japanese collaboration team, and we are conducting R&D efforts for that. We are developing high-brightness DC photocathode guns, two types of cryomodules for both injector and main superconducting (SC) linacs, and 1.3 GHz high CW-power RF sources. We are also constructing the Compact ERL (cERL) for demonstrating the recirculation of low-emittance, high-current beams using above-mentioned critical technologies.

We have applied angle-resolved Ce 3$$d{rightarrow}$$4$$f$$ resonance photoemission spectroscopy to the non-centrosymmetric pressure-induced superconductor CeIrSi$$_3$$ and obtained the 4$$f$$ band-structure and Fermi surfaces. We have found that the Ce 4$$f$$ states are located mainly near the Fermi level and that the photoemission intensity derived from the dispersive conduction bands across the Fermi level shows considerable resonant enhancement. In addition, the band structure and Fermi surfaces of CeIrSi$$_3$$ are different from those of the non-$$f$$ reference compound, LaIrSi$$_3$$ and the difference is well explained by the band structure calculated within the local density approximation (LDA). These results strongly suggest that the Ce 4$$f$$ electrons in CeIrSi$$_3$$ are well hybridized with conduction bands and form itinerant electronic states.

Seismic reflection profiles across coseismic fault scarps of the A.D. 1896 Rikuu earthquake along the eastern margin of the Yokote basin fault zone (EYBFZ), correlated with borehole stratigraphy and geologic mapping, provide insights into its detailed structural evolution. In spite of along-strike variations of thrust geometries both at ground surface and at shallow depth, the EYBFZ has commonly formed as forward breaking imbricate thrust systems. Spatial variations in the long-term uplift rates estimated from cross-section balancing are consistent with mountain topography, in contrast to their weak coupling with the magnitudes of short-term uplift rates and coseismic uplift during the A.D. 1896 earthquake. This suggests that mechanical decoupling of Miocene mudstone that formed frontal emergent thrust faults may have enhanced the slip at shallowest structural levels at shorter timescales.

The eastern marginal fault zone of the Yokote Basin is one of seismogenic reverse faults developed in Northeast Japan, generating the 1896 Riku-u Earthquake (M7.2). We discussed the relationship among fault traces, geomorphic displacements and fault geometries on the Senya fault, based on a data from high-resolution seismic reflection profiling, investigations in tectonic geomorphology and structural geology, with the help of the balanced cross section method. By the restoring the balanced cross sections, the horizontal shortening amount is estimated to be totally 3 km through the thrust system, and the thrusting is retroactive to 2.4 Ma. Depending on the strike of fault traces and the morphotectonic features, the Senya fault is subdivided into three, the northern, central and southern portion. The initiation of thrust front migration is ca.1.6 Ma at the central portion and 0.6 Ma at the northern portion. This means that the central portion preceded the northern portion as an emergent fault, and suggests that the initial propagated fault extends from the fault end to the boundary fault.

Viscosity and specific resistivity of simulated waste glass was measured to investigate characterization of waste glass processed by the long-life vitrification melter. The composition of the simulated waste glass was varied based on 8 cases of assumed spent fuel conditions and reprocessing flows including reprocessing of FBR fuel with minor actinides separation. The viscosity of the sample glasses was from 0.5 to 1.8 times that of waste glass with standard composition. The specific resistivity of the sample glasses was from 0.5 to 1.5 times that of standard waste glass.

We performed angle-resolved resonant photoemission spectroscopy on CeIrSi$$_3$$. CeIrSi$$_3$$ is said to be the superconductor which lacks inversion symmetry and therefore the measurements of electronic conductivity, magnetoresistance, dHvA, and so on, have been made on so far. In this study, we observed extremely clear 4$$f$$ derived band dispersions and Fermi surfaces. By these obtained profiles and comparison with those predicted by LDA calculation, Ce 4$$f$$ electrons in CeIrSi$$_3$$ have relatively itinerant electronic states.

We have investigated the bulk 4$$f$$ electronic structure of the non-centrosymmetric superconductor, CeIrSi$$_3$$ by soft X-ray angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. We have performed the angle-resolved 3$$d$$-4$$f$$ resonant photoemission and the comparison of the angle-resolved photoemission spectra of CeIrSi$$_3$$ with those of non-$$f$$ reference compound, LaIrSi$$_3$$ and revealed that the 4$$f$$ states of CeIrSi$$_3$$ well hybridized with the non-$$f$$ conduction bands.
