Recent years have witnessed a growing interest in the use of organic radicals as building blocks for bistable materials, i.e. materials that exist in two inter-exchangeable phases under identical thermodynamic conditions. The neutral radical TTTA is a prominent dithiazolyl-based compound because of its spin transition with a hysterisis nature near the room temperature. From ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, it has been evident that this phase transition is driven by the pair exchange dynamics of molecular stacking units accompanied by a significant gain of vibrational entropy.

Japan Atomic Energy Agency has been investigated the groundwater chemistry on excavating the underground facilities as part of the Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory (MIU) Project at Mizunami City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. This report compiles data set of the groundwater chemistry obtained at MIU in the fiscal year 2010. In terms of ensuring traceability of data, basic information (e.g. sampling location, sampling date, sampling method, analytical method) and methodology for quality control is described.

Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has been carried out investigation to understand the variation of groundwater chemistry related to the shafts construction of Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory (MIU) at Mizunami City, Gifu prefecture, Japan. This report aimed to compile the data of pore water pressure and groundwater chemistry obtained from surface based boreholes, MSB-2 and MSB-4 boreholes with installed continuous monitoring equipment for multi-interval water pressure (MP system, made by westbay company) between the April 2009 and March 2010. Groundwater sampling and measurement of pore water pressure were conducted once in a month. As the result, we could obtain the data of pore water pressure and groundwater chemistry continuously from 2003 and understand their variation related to the shafts construction in 2009.

This report compiles data set of the groundwater chemistry obtained at Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory (MIU) between the fiscal year 2004 and the fiscal year 2007. These data includes groundwater chemistry of inflow in the shafts and sampled groundwater in the boreholes, which drilled from sub-stages of MIU and from surface (MSB-2, MSB-4, and MIZ-1). Basic information (e.g. sampling location, sampling date, sampling method, analytical method) are also described in terms of quality control and traceability.

The Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory (MIU), one of the main facilities in Japan for research and development of the technology for high-level radioactive waste disposal, is under construction in Mizunami City. In planning the construction, it was necessary to get reliable information on the bedrock conditions, specifically the rock mass stability and hydrogeology. Therefore, borehole investigations were conducted before excavations started. The results indicated that large water inflow could be expected during the excavation around the Ventilation Shaft at GL-200m and GL-300m Access/Research Gallery. In order to reduce water inflow, pre-excavation grouting was conducted before excavation of shafts and research tunnels. Grouting is the injection of material such as cement into a rock mass to stabilize and seal the rock. This report describes the knowledge and lessons learned during the planning and conducting of pre-excavation grouting.

We succeeded in experimentally demonstrating that a series of two-dimensional maps of a dynamical structure factor in momentum-energy space with multiple incident energies can be simultaneously obtained by one measurement. This method reduces the dead time of time-of-flight measurement, and thus it markedly increases the measurement efficiency. Our achievement realized using the Fermi chopper spectrometer 4SEASONS in J-PARC is expected to open up new possibilities of inelastic neutron scattering measurements.

The attractive concepts for Sodium-, lead-bismuth-, helium- and water-cooled FBRs have been created through using typical plant features and employing advanced technologies. Efforts on evaluating technological prospects of feasibility have been paid for these concepts. Also, it was comfirmed if these concepts satisfy design requierments of capability and performance presumed in the feasibilty study on commertialization of Fast Breeder Reactor Systems. As results, it was concluded that the selection of sodium-cooled reactor was most rational for practical use of FBR technologies in 2015.
