JAEA has to responsibly procure nine Toroidal Field (TF) coils as Japanese domestic agency. To manufacture the TF coil, full-scale trials (manufacturing of dummy DPs) is carrying out as a qualification of the manufacturing process. From October in 2013, the manufacturing of the first TF coil was started. In this presentation, results of full-scale trials and progress of the TF coil manufacturing are reported.

JAEA is charging on procurement of 9 TF coils in ITER project. To meet the schedule of ITER project, TF coils should be fabricated in 2 manufacturing lines. In the TF coil winding production, the conductor should be inserted the radial plate (RP) groove after its D shape winding and heat treatment. To insert the conductor into RP groove correctly, the conductor length should be controlled within the error of $$pm$$0.01%. To achieve this high accuracy winding system, the winding system using laser marker and CCD camera to measure conductor length was developed and then the winding trials had been performed using this system. As a result, high accuracy winding could be achieved.

JAEA has responsibility of procurement of 9 ITER Toroidal Field (TF) coils in ITER. Prior to TF coil fabrication, JAEA started to fabricate three dummy double pancakes (DPs) in order to confirm the commissioning of the facilities for DP fabrication and establish the manufacturing process of the DP. Fabrication of the dummy DP as full-scale trials has been started from October, 2013. In this full-scale trial, the control of conductor length with $$pm$$0.01%, flatness of radial plate (RP) with $$pm$$2 mm and flatness of DP after CP welding with $$pm$$2 mm were achieved and conductor elongation due to heat treatment was evaluated. Based on these results, TF coil winding has been started. The conductor winding has been already completed for 11 DPs of the TF coil and 10 DPs were heat treated. The conductor elongation is within expected value of $$pm$$0.02%.
