Kunieda, Satoshi; Iwamoto, Osamu; Iwamoto, Nobuyuki; Minato, Futoshi; Okamoto, Tsutomu; Sato, Tatsuhiko; Nakashima, Hiroshi; Iwamoto, Yosuke; Iwamoto, Hiroki; Kitatani, Fumito; et al.

JAEA-Conf 2016-004, p.41 - 46, 2016/09

Neutron- and proton-induced cross-section data are required in a wide energy range beyond 20 MeV, for the design of accelerator applications. New evaluations are performed with recent knowledge in the optical and pre-equilibrium model calculations. We also evaluated cross-sections for p+$$^{6,7}$$Li and p+$$^{9}$$Be which have been highly requested from a medical field. The present high-energy nuclear data library, JENDL-4.0/HE, includes evaluated cross-sections for incident neutrons and protons up to 200 MeV (for about 130 nuclei). We overview substantial features of the library, i.e., (1) systematic evaluation with CCONE code, (2) challenges for evaluations of light nuclei and (3) inheritance of JENDL-4.0 and JENDL/HE-2007. In this talk, we also focus on the results of benchmark calculation for neutronics to show performance of the present library.

Photonuclear data file

Iwamoto, Nobuyuki; Kosako, Kazuaki*; Murata, Toru*

JAEA-Conf 2016-004, p.53 - 58, 2016/09

Photonuclear data have been required to propose non-destructive assay and high energy $$gamma$$-ray therapy as well as shielding design of an electron accelerator facility. A new photonuclear data file has been developed to take into account a wide variety of use. Nuclear data of stable light nuclides from Li to Ca were evaluated with experimental data and nuclear structural data. For nuclides above Ca, the photon absorption cross sections were calculated with GDR and QD model by nuclear reaction model codes, ALICE-F and CCONE. The incident photon energy covers the range up to 140 MeV. The data included absorption, particle production yield and nuclide production cross sections, and energy-angle differential cross sections of emitted particles. The new version has the nuclear data of 181 nuclides. In addition, an extended version is also planned to be released, in which systematic calculations by the ALICE-F code were performed for ~2500 nuclides other than those included in standard file.

$$^{3}$$H photonuclear data evaluation and preliminary study of reduction of $$^{3}$$H density in waste water by photon irradiation

Murata, Toru*; Kosako, Kazuaki*; Iwamoto, Nobuyuki

JAEA-Conf 2016-004, p.153 - 158, 2016/09

The experimental photo-nuclear data of $$^{3}$$H were measured by Faul et al. These data were analyzed with the same model as those applied to $$^{3}$$He photo-nuclear reactions to obtain production cross sections of neutron, proton and deuteron and also energy spectrum of these particles. Evaluated quantities will be contained in new Photo-nuclear Data File of JENDL. With these cross section of neutron production, feasibility study was made to reduce $$^{3}$$H density in the waste water by photon irradiation using an electron LINAC. Photon energy and angular distributions of bremsstrahlung were estimated using the method given by Hisdal, taking into account the multiple scattering of the incident electrons in the target. Preliminary results of photon energy spectrum at some emission angles and the $$^{3}$$H($$gamma$$,n)+($$gamma$$,2n) cross sections will be shown in the presentation. In case of irradiation of the waste water sample thickness of 50 cm with forward angle emission photon beam produced by 10mA electrons $$times$$ 100 sec., about a few percent reduction of $$^{3}$$H are expected with rough estimation.

Evaluation of delayed neutron data of the photo-fission

Murata, Toru; Iwamoto, Nobuyuki; Kosako, Kazuaki*

JAEA-Conf 2015-003, p.237 - 242, 2016/03

Development of non-destructive assay technique of nuclear materials is required for the nuclear safeguard and nuclear security, especially for high level radioactive wastes such as vitrified solids. For these objects, irradiation of high transparent rays and detection of fission responses with high discrimination are required and will be attained with high energy photon irradiation and delayed neutron detections. To study the feasibility of the methods and to design the apparatus, the delayed neutron data will be requested. Their evaluation was performed approximately by utilizing neutron induced fission delayed neutron data of JENDL-4.0 for the same compound nucleus as the photo-fission. If the same compound nucleus data were not available, group delayed neutron intensities (say six or so groups) were calculated with the method given by Brady and England with the cumulative fission yields systematics given by Wahl. The present results will be given at the symposium.

Nuclear Physics and $$gamma$$-ray sources for Nuclear Security and Nonproliferation, p.261 - 268, 2014/12

The next version of JENDL Photonuclear data is now being developed by using the photon absorption cross sections based on giant dipole resonances and the nuclear reaction model codes, ALICE-F and CCONE. The incident photon energy covers the range from particle emission threshold to 140 MeV. The data include absorption, particle production yield and nuclide production cross sections, and energy-angle differential cross sections of emitted particles. In the present revision much emphasis is placed on the following topics: (1) Nuclear data of light nuclei from Li to Ca isotopes are systematically evaluated with experimental data. (2) Integral tests of photoneutron yields for Fe, Cu and W performed at Hokkaido University are used to evaluate and verify their nuclide production data. (3) The number of nuclei is increased to 181 in order to take into account the use in many application fields.

We report on the event structure and double helicity asymmetry ($$A_{LL}$$) of jet production in longitudinally polarized $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 GeV. Photons and charged particles were measured by the PHENIX experiment. Event structure was compared with the results from PYTHIA event generator. The production rate of reconstructed jets is satisfactorily reproduced with the next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculation. We measured $$A_{LL}$$ = -0.0014 $$pm$$ 0.0037 at the lowest $$P_T$$ bin and -0.0181 $$pm$$ 0.0282 at the highest $$P_T$$ bin. The measured $$A_{LL}$$ is compared with the predictions that assume various $$Delta G(x)$$ distributions.

Transverse momentum distributions and yields for $$pi^{pm}, K^{pm}, p$$, and $$bar{p}$$ in $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 and 62.4 GeV at midrapidity are measured by the PHENIX experiment at the RHIC. We present the inverse slope parameter, mean transverse momentum, and yield per unit rapidity at each energy, and compare them to other measurements at different $$sqrt{s}$$ collisions. We also present the scaling properties such as $$m_T$$ and $$x_T$$ scaling and discuss the mechanism of the particle production in $$p + p$$ collisions. The measured spectra are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.

Measurements of electrons from the decay of open-heavy-flavor mesons have shown that the yields are suppressed in Au+Au collisions compared to expectations from binary-scaled $$p+p$$ collisions. Here we extend these studies to two particle correlations where one particle is an electron from the decay of a heavy flavor meson and the other is a charged hadron from either the decay of the heavy meson or from jet fragmentation. These measurements provide more detailed information about the interaction between heavy quarks and the quark-gluon matter. We find the away-side-jet shape and yield to be modified in Au+Au collisions compared to $$p+p$$ collisions.

The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has measured the invariant differential cross section for production of $$K^0_s$$, $$omega$$, $$eta'$$ and $$phi$$ mesons in $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 GeV. The spectral shapes of all hadron transverse momentum distributions are well described by a Tsallis distribution functional form with only two parameters, $$n$$ and $$T$$, determining the high $$p_T$$ and characterizing the low $$p_T$$ regions for the spectra, respectively. The integrated invariant cross sections calculated from the fitted distributions are found to be consistent with existing measurements and with statistical model predictions.

The fourth version of Japanese Evaluated Nuclear Data Library has been produced. In the new library, much emphasis is placed on the improvements of fission product and minor actinoid data. Two nuclear model codes were developed to evaluate the cross sections of fission products and minor actinoids. Coupled-channel optical model parameters, which can be applied to wide mass and energy regions, were obtained for nuclear model calculations. Thermal cross sections of actinoids were determined by considering recent experimental data or by the systematics of neighboring nuclei. A simultaneous evaluation was performed for the fission cross sections of important uranium and plutonium isotopes above 10 keV. The data on FP were re-evaluated, and new evaluations were performed for 30 nuclides. The data on light elements and structural materials were partly re-evaluated. The new library was released as JENDL-4.0 in May 2010.

Neutron emission data of the $$(alpha,xn)$$ reactions were evaluated in the incident $$alpha$$-particle energy region below 15 MeV for nuclides important mainly in nuclear fuel-cycle applications, namely, $$^{6,7}Li$$, $$^{9}Be$$, $$^{10,11}B$$, $$^{12,13}C$$, $$^{14,15}N$$, $$^{17,18}O$$, $$^{19}F$$, $$^{23}Na$$, $$^{27}Al$$ and $$^{28,29,30}Si$$. The evaluation was performed on the basis of available experimental data and nuclear model calculations. The evaluated nuclear data were compiled in the ENDF-6 format, and released in June 2005 as JENDL $$(alpha,n)$$ Reaction Data File 2005 (JENDL/AN-2005) which is one of JENDL special-purpose files. This report describes evaluation methods and the results on evalauted cross sections and angular- and energy-distributions of emitted neutrons.

JENDL photonuclear data file

Kishida, Norio*; Murata, Toru*; Asami, Tetsuo*; Kosako, Kazuaki*; Maki, Koichi*; Harada, Hideo*; Lee, Y.*; Chang, J.*; Chiba, Satoshi; Fukahori, Tokio

Nuclear data for photonuclear reactions are required in the field of shielding design of high-energy electron accelerators and high-energy $$gamma$$-ray therapy. The JENDL Photonuclear Data File was prepared by a working group on nuclear data evaluations for photonuclear reactions in Japanese Nuclear Data Committee. From a survey of many literatures, it is difficult to construct the photonuclear data file by using only measured data, since there are not sufficient experimental data. We were therefore evaluating with theoretical calculations based on statistical nuclear reaction models. The photonuclear cross sections that are to be contained in the file are as follows: photoabsorption cross sections, yield cross sections and DDX for neutrons, protons, deuterons, tritons, $$^{3}$$He-particles and alpha-particles, and isotope production cross sections. For the actinide nuclides, photofission cross sections are also included. The maximum energy of incident photons is 140 MeV and stored are the photonuclear data for 68 nuclides from $$^{2}$$H to $$^{237}$$Np.

An overview is presented of recent nuclear data evaluations performed for the JENDL high-energy (JENDL-HE) file, in which neutron and proton cross sections for energies up to 3 GeV are included for the whole 132 nuclides. The current version of the JENDL-HE file consists of neutron total cross sections, nucleon elastic scattering cross sections and angular distributions, nonelastic cross sections, production cross sections and double-differential cross sections of secondary light particles (${it n, p, d, t,}$ $$^{3}$$He, $$alpha$$, and $$pi$$) and $$gamma$$-rays, isotope production cross sections, and fission cross sections in the ENDF6 format. The present evaluations are performed on the basis of experimental data and theoretical model calculations. For the cross section calculations, we have constructed a hybrid calculation code system with some available nuclear model codes and systematics-based codes, such as ECIS96, OPTMAN, GNASH, JQMD, JAM, TOTELA, FISCAL, and so on. The evaluated cross sections are compared with available experimental data and the other evaluations. Future plans of our JENDL-HE project are discussed along with prospective needs of high-energy cross section data.

New evaluations of neutron nuclear data for Uranium, Plutonium, and Thorium isotopes which are essential for applications to nuclear technology were carried out for the Japanese Evaluated Nuclear Data Library, JENDL-3.3. The objectives of the current release of JENDL were to fix several problems which have been reported for the previous version, to improve the accuracy of the data, and to evaluate covariances for the important nuclides. Quantities in JENDL-3.2 were extensively re-evaluated or replaced by more reliable values. The heavy nuclide data in JENDL-3.3 were validated with several benchmark tests, and it was reported that the current release gave a good prediction of criticalities.

Evaluation for JENDL-3.3 has been performed by considering the accumulated feedback information and various benchmark tests of the previous library JENDL-3.2. The major problems of the JENDL-3.2 data were solved by the new library: overestimation of criticality values for thermal fission reactors was improved by the modifications of fission cross sections and fission neutron spectra for $$^{235}$$U; incorrect energy distributions of secondary neutrons from important heavy nuclides were replaced with statistical model calculations; the inconsistency between elemental and isotopic evaluations was removed for medium-heavy nuclides. Moreover, covariance data were provided for 20 nuclides. The reliability of JENDL-3.3 was investigated by the benchmark analyses on reactor and shielding performances. The results of the analyses indicate that JENDL-3.3 predicts various reactor and shielding characteristics better than JENDL-3.2.
