The Nuclear Fuel Cycle Engineering Laboratories conducts environmental radiation monitoring around the reprocessing plant in accordance with the "Safety Regulations for Reprocessing Plant of JAEA, Part IV: Environmental Monitoring". This report summarizes the results of environmental radiation monitoring conducted during the period from April 2022 to March 2023 and the results of dose calculations for the surrounding public due to the release of radioactive materials into the atmosphere and ocean. In the results of the above environmental radiation monitoring, many items were affected by radioactive materials emitted from the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant of Tokyo Electric Power Company, Incorporated (changed to Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc. on April 1, 2016), which occurred in March 2011. Also included as appendices are an overview of the environmental monitoring plan, an overview of measurement methods, measurement results and their changes over time, meteorological statistics results, radioactive waste release status, and an evaluation of the data which deviated of the normal range.

are monouranates containing pentavalent U. Even though these compounds have similar crystal structures, their formation conditions and thermal stability are significantly different. To determine the factors causing the difference in thermal stability between FeUO
and CrUO
, their crystal structures were evaluated in detail. A Raman band was observed at 700 cm
in all the samples. This Raman band was derived from the stretching vibration of the O-U-O axis band, indicating that Fe
Cr
UO
was composed of a uranyl-like structure in its lattice regardless of its "x"' value. M
ssbauer measurements indicated that the Fe in FeUO
and Fe
Cr
UO
were trivalent. Furthermore, Fe
Cr
UO
lost its symmetry around Fe
with increasing electron densities around Fe
, as the abundance of Cr increased. These results suggested no significant structural differences between FeUO
and CrUO
. Thermogravimetric measurements for UO
, FeUO
, and CrUO
showed that the temperature at which FeUO
decomposed under an oxidizing condition (approximately 800
C) was significantly lower than the temperature at which the decomposition of CrUO
started (approximately 1250
C). Based on these results, we concluded that the decomposition of FeUO
was triggered by an "in-crystal" redox reaction, i.e., Fe
U
Fe
U
, which would not occur in the CrUO
lattice because Cr
could never be reduced under the investigated condition. Finally, the existence of Cr
in FexCr
UO
effectively suppressed the decomposition of the Fe
Cr
UO
crystal, even at a very low Cr content.

This paper is to validate the recommendation through NDP model intercomparison in the accidental release from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant in 2011. Emission intensity is assumed to be constant during the whole forecast period for the worst-case scenario unless time sequence of emission is available. We expect to utilize forecasts of surface air contaminations for preventions of inhalations of radioactive substances, and column-integrated amounts for mitigation of radiation exposure associated with wet deposition. Although NDP forecasts have ensemble spread, they commonly figure out relative risk in space and time. They are of great benefit to disseminating effective warnings to public without failure. The multi-model ensemble technique may be effective to improve the reliability.

fluxes, paddy water temperature, and soil temperature and moisture during both the fallow and cropping seasons. The "recaptured fraction" was defined as the ratio of the amount of volatilized NH
recaptured by the foliage to the total amount. Numerical experiments using the modified model with varying emission potentials of NH
showed that the recaptured fraction increased with an increase in the leaf area index (LAI) and saturated when LAI
1 because of the limitation of stomatal uptake.

= 30 K. Although this system is expected to have line nodes in its superconducting order parameter, we have observed spin resonance at the same scattering vector as that appeared in the
-wave iron-based superconductors without line nodes. Moreover, the resonance enhancement, which can be a measure of the area of sign reversal between the hole and electron Fermi surfaces (FSs), is comparable to those without line nodes. These facts indicate that the sign reversal between the FSs is still dominant in this system, and the line nodes should create only limited area of sign-reversal on a single FS. Hence the system can hold higher Tc than the other iron-based superconductors with nodal symmetry, such as LaFePO
and KFe
As
(
10 K).

1 MeV) under a constant high flux at JMTR. The early hardening was found to be caused by mainly matrix defects. The gradual hardening after middle stage of irradiation was found to be caused by the formation of Cu rich clusters (CRCs) and Mn-Ni-Si rich clusters (MNSCs), respectively, in the high- and low-impurity steels. By applying a RB model, it was found that the dislocation-pinning strength of the CRCs and MNSCs is almost the same. Moreover, the high-impurity steel subjected to the highest dose revealed the formation of MNSCs.

Future synchrotron light source using a 5-GeV energy recovery linac (ERL) is under proposal by our Japanese collaboration team, and we are conducting R&D efforts for that. We are developing high-brightness DC photocathode guns, two types of cryomodules for both injector and main superconducting (SC) linacs, and 1.3 GHz high CW-power RF sources. We are also constructing the Compact ERL (cERL) for demonstrating the recirculation of low-emittance, high-current beams using above-mentioned critical technologies.

So far no standard procedure for the positron annihilation lifetime (PAL) technique has been established. A lack of the standards has led to difficulty in ensuring the equivalency and reliability of data from different laboratories. As a first, we conducted an interlaboratory comparison of PAL measurements for metal, polymer and silica glass with agreed procedures for data recording and analysis. The PAL data recorded at different laboratories were analyzed with a single lifetime component for the metal sample and with three components for the others, respectively. Based on the results of the reported positron and ortho-positronium lifetimes, the possible sources of the uncertainties in the PAL measurements are discussed. To reduce the effect of scattered rays, a lead shield was placed between the detectors. The uncertainty was significantly decreased, signifying that placing lead shields between the detectors effectively reduced the false signals due to the scattered
rays.
