We characterize the structural flexibility in terms of nano-second molecular motions. We report on two relaxation processes on a nano-second and a sub-nano-second time scale for -casein in solution. Both processes are analyzed by Brownian Oscillator model, by which the spring constant can be defined in the isotropic parabolic potential. The slower process seems a characteristic feature of the unfolded structure, and dividing the relaxation time by the solvent viscosity removes most of the temperature dependence, indicating that indicates, the process involves density fluctuations of the solvent. The faster process has a smaller amplitude and requires hydration water. The flexibility of a -casein monomer is preserved in the micelle.

We were able to describe the unique structural dynamics by Orenstein-Uhlenbeck Brownian oscillator model by several types of QENS experiments with wide time-scales. The characterized dynamics also allowed us to discuss the effective sequestration of calcium phosphate in terms of its unique dynamical structure. The biological role of the physical processes of the proteins on the nanosecond order on the biological functions is presented.

MIRS is built at LESIA-Paris Observatory in collaboration with four other French laboratories, collaboration and financial support of CNES and close collaboration with JAXA and MELCO. The instrument is designed to fully accomplish MMX's scientific and measurement objectives. MIRS will remotely provide near-infrared spectral maps of Phobos and Deimos containing compositional diagnostic spectral features that will be used to analyze the surface composition and to support the sampling site selection. MIRS will also study Mars atmosphere, in particular to spatial and temporal changes such as clouds, dust and water vapor.

Times Cited Count:25 Percentile:68.35(Chemistry, Physical)Numerous neutron scattering studies of bio-molecular dynamics employ a qualitative analysis of elastic scattering data and atomic mean square displacements. We provide a new quantitative approach, showing, that the intensity at zero energy exchange can be a rich source of information of bio-structural fluctuations on a pico- to nano-second time scale. Elastic intensity scans performed either as a function of the temperature and /or by varying the instrumental resolution yield the activation parameters of molecular motions and the approximate structural correlation function in the time domain. The two methods are unified by a scaling function. The complete elastic scattering function versus temperature, momentum exchange and instrumental resolution is analyzed instead of focusing on a single cross-over temperature of mean square displacements at the apparent onset temperature of an-harmonic motions. Our method predicts the protein dynamical transition (PDT) at Td from the collective alpha-structural relaxation rates of the solvation shell as input. By contrast the secondary beta-relaxation enhances the amplitude of fast local motions in the vicinity of the glass temperature Tg.

The JMTR is expected to be a key infrastructure with related facilities to contribute the nuclear Human Resource Development (HRD) by a research and On-the-Job-Training (OJT) in order to support global expansion of nuclear power industry. The training program for Asian young researchers and engineers were started from JFY 2011 in JAEA, and 10 trainees from Kazakhstan and Thailand had studied in JFY 2011. In addition, the training course was newly established for domestic students and young engineers from JFY 2010 to JFY 2012, and 45 domestic students and engineers were studied in the course from JFY 2010 to JFY 2011.

Photons and charged particles were measured by the PHENIX experiment. Event structure was compared with the results from PYTHIA event generator. The production rate of reconstructed jets is satisfactorily reproduced with the next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculation. We measured = -0.0014 0.0037 at the lowest bin and -0.0181 0.0282 at the highest bin. The measured is compared with the predictions that assume various distributions.

Times Cited Count:8 Percentile:49.7(Physics, Nuclear)Measurements of electrons from the decay of open-heavy-flavor mesons have shown that the yields are suppressed in Au+Au collisions compared to expectations from binary-scaled collisions. Here we extend these studies to two particle correlations where one particle is an electron from the decay of a heavy flavor meson and the other is a charged hadron from either the decay of the heavy meson or from jet fragmentation. These measurements provide more detailed information about the interaction between heavy quarks and the quark-gluon matter. We find the away-side-jet shape and yield to be modified in Au+Au collisions compared to collisions.

The spectral shapes of all hadron transverse momentum distributions are well described by a Tsallis distribution functional form with only two parameters, and , determining the high and characterizing the low regions for the spectra, respectively. The integrated invariant cross sections calculated from the fitted distributions are found to be consistent with existing measurements and with statistical model predictions.

The low-energy excitations exhibit commensurate peaks centered at the (, ) position for all . Our data show that the characteristics of the excitations, such as the relaxation rate and the spin stiffness, decrease with increasing in the SC phase and disappear with the disappearance of superconductivity.

A web-based search and plot system for nuclear reaction data has been developed, covering experimental data in EXFOR format and evaluated data in ENDF format. The system is implemented for Linux OS, with Perl and MySQL used for CGI scripts and the database manager, respectively. Two prototypes for experimental and evaluated data are presented.

Review of neutron cross-section evaluations for fission products included in 5 major evaluated nuclear-data libralies was performed. The aim of the project, conducted under the WPEC Subgroup 21 during 2001-2004, was to prepare recommendations for best evaluations of nuclei in the range Z=1-68. Altogether, existing evaluations for 211 materials were reviewd, 7 new materials were added, and recommendations were prepared for 218 materials.
