Using high contrast (10$$^{10}$$:1) and high intensity (10$$^{21}$$ W/cm$$^{2}$$) laser pulse with the duration of 40 fs from OPCPA/Ti:Sapphire laser, a 40 MeV proton bunch is obtained, which is a record for laser pulse with energy less than 10 J. The efficiency for generation of protons with kinetic energy above 15 MeV is 0.1%.

Structural study on 2,2'-(methylimino)bis($$N$$,$$N$$-dioctylacetamide) complex with Re(VII)O$$_{4}$$$$^{-}$$ and Tc(VII)O$$_{4}$$$$^{-}$$ by $$^{1}$$H-NMR, EXAFS and IR spectroscopy

The structures of the complex of 2,2'-(methylimino)bis($$N$$,$$N$$-dioctylacetamide) (MIDOA) with M(VII)O$$_{4}$$$$^{-}$$ (M=Re and Tc), which were prepared by liquid-liquid solvent extraction, were investigated by using $$^{1}$$H-NMR, EXAFS and IR spectroscopy. The results from $$^{1}$$H-NMR and EXAFS provide therefore evidence of M(VII)O$$_{4}$$$$^{-}$$...H$$^{+}$$MIDOA complex formation in the organic solution. The IR spectra of Re(VII)O$$_{4}$$$$^{-}$$...H$$^{+}$$MIDOA and Tc(VII)O$$_{4}$$$$^{-}$$...H$$^{+}$$MIDOA were analyzed based on the structures and the IR spectra calculated at the B3LYP/cc-pVDZ level. Comparison of the observed and calculated IR spectra demonstrates that an intramolecular hydrogen bond is formed in H$$^{+}$$MIDOA and the M(VII)O$$_{4}$$$$^{-}$$ ion interact with H$$^{+}$$MIDOA through multiple C-H$$_{n}$$...O hydrogen bonds.

A proton beam driven by a repetitive high-intensity-laser is utilized to induce a $$^{7}$$Li(p,n)$$^{7}$$Be nuclear reaction. The total activity of $$^{7}$$Be are evaluated by two different methods. The activity obtained measuring the decay $$gamma$$-rays after 1912 shots at 1 Hz is 1.7$$pm$$0.2 Bq. This is in good agreement with 1.6$$pm$$0.3 Bq evaluated from the proton energy distribution measured using a time-of-flight detector and the nuclear reaction cross-sections. We conclude that the production of activity can be monitored in real time using the time-of-flight-detector placed inside a diverging proton beam coupled with a high-speed signal processing system.

Protons with energies up to 3.5 MeV have been generated by a 10 Hz compact laser with an intensity of about 10$$^{20}$$ W/cm$$^{2}$$, focused on a 7.5 mm thick polyimide target. These protons were used to induce a nuclear reaction of $$^{11}$$B(p,n)$$^{11}$$C. A total activity of 11.1 Bq was created after 60-shot laser irradiation. The possibility of thin layer activation (TLA) using a high-intensity ultra-short pulsed laser is discussed.

One of the main bottlenecks for the applications of ultrashort and ultrahigh-peak power lasers in high-field physics is a temporal contrast of the pulses. In ultrahigh-peak power lasers, a nanosecond background of the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) is generated at the same time as the femtosecond pulse. This background is mostly generated in the preamplifier (regenerative, multipass amplifier). Even though the contrast level is usually in the range from 10$$^{-5}$$ to 10$$^{-6}$$, this level is not sufficiently low at relativistic intensities greater than 10$$^{18} $$W/cm$$^{2}$$ to avoid unwanted pre-plasmas generation. We demonstrated a high-contrast, high-peak power laser with optical parametric chirped-pulse amplification (OPCPA). With the use of OPCPA, contrast is enhanced to better than 7$$times$$10$$^{-9}$$ in a few picoseconds before the main pulse, which corresponds to an improvement of three to four orders in magnitude compared with conventional systems.

Here we report the new features and improvements in our latest release of the H-Invitational Database, a comprehensive annotation resource for human genes and transcripts. H-InvDB, originally developed as an integrated database of the human transcriptome based on extensive annotation of large sets of fulllength cDNA (FLcDNA) clones, now provides annotation for 120 558 human mRNAs extracted from the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (INSD), in addition to 54 978 human FLcDNAs, in the latest release H-InvDB. We mapped those human transcripts onto the human genome sequences (NCBI build 36.1) and determined 34 699 human gene clusters, which could define 34 057 protein-coding and 642 non-protein-coding loci; 858 transcribed loci overlapped with predicted pseudogenes.

We report on a high-peak-power, high-contrast laser system, which combines both conventional Ti:sapphire chirped-pulse amplification and optical parametric chirped-pulse amplification (OPCPA) techniques for use in experiments where relativistic effects dominate the physics. The stretched pulses are amplified in a 3-stage Type-I Bata-Barium Borate OPCPA to an energy level of 10 mJ with an amplification gain of 10$$^8$$. The output pulses are then amplified in the subsequent Ti:sapphire amplifiers to an energy level of 2.9 J. Pulse compression down to 19 fs duration achieved after amplification indicates a peak power of 80 TW. The pre-pulse contrast is enhanced to better than $$7 times 10^{-9}$$ within a few picoseconds before the main pulse. The thermal focal length of about 4 km is obtained.

Protons with energies up to 3 MeV have been generated by the irradiation of a 7.5 $$mu$$m thickness target by a 1 Hz table top laser with intensity of 700mJ. These protons were used to induce the nuclear reaction 7Li(p,n)7Be. Simultaneously, energy of proton was detected by a time of flight method.

Ultrashort and high intensity laser can induce high energy protons. Proton beams have a wide range of applications such as in the production of radioisotopes and proton therapy. An energy of the proton beam has a wide distribution. The distribution of activity in depth is calculated while laser induced protons are injected into an iron plate.
