In the International Fusion Energy Research Center (IFERC) project of BA, the R&D building was completed March 2010 at the Rokkasho BA site. R&Ds on reduced activation ferritic/ martensitic (RAFM) steels as structural material, SiC/SiC composites as a flow channel insert material and/or alternative structural material, advanced tritium breeders and neutron multipliers, and tritium technology relevant to the DEMO operational condition are progressed in Japan and EU. In the IFMIF/EVEDA project, the fabrication of the injector for the IFMIF prototype accelerator was completed at the CEA Saclay, and the first proton beam was obtained in May, 2011. The IFMIF lithium target test loop was completed in March 2011, and a lithium flow of 5 m/s was obtained.

In a vitrification process of high level radio-active liquid wastes, platinum group particles are mixed into molted glass and convected with the glass flow in vitrification melters. Though behaviors of the particles in the melters should be investigated to establish efficient melter operation, difficulties on observations in the high-radioactive melters have prevented enough investigation. In this paper, we present a numerical analysis method to evaluate the particles behaviors. Since thermal convection of the molten glass, electrical potential and particle distribution are interacting each other, we coupled these physical behaviors to evaluate the melter status with high accuracy. The simulation results for ten batches of operation showed that an effective discharge of the particles can be achieved as well as the mock-up experiments did. These results imply that our numerical method can evaluate transient behaviors of the platinum group particles in vitrification melters.

New evaluations of neutron nuclear data for Uranium, Plutonium, and Thorium isotopes which are essential for applications to nuclear technology were carried out for the Japanese Evaluated Nuclear Data Library, JENDL-3.3. The objectives of the current release of JENDL were to fix several problems which have been reported for the previous version, to improve the accuracy of the data, and to evaluate covariances for the important nuclides. Quantities in JENDL-3.2 were extensively re-evaluated or replaced by more reliable values. The heavy nuclide data in JENDL-3.3 were validated with several benchmark tests, and it was reported that the current release gave a good prediction of criticalities.

The ITPA (International Tokamak Physics Activity) meeting was held at Scientific Educational Center of Ioffe Institute (St. Petersburg) in Russia. In the meeting, topical physics group meetings of "Scrape-off-layer and Divertor Physics", "MHD, Disruptions and Control", "Energetic Particles, Heating and Steady State Operation", and "Diagnostics" were carried out. The joint meeting for plasma control was also held. In getting many participants from Japan, Europe, Russia, ITER international team, U.S.A. and China (observer), the active discussions were carried out. The outline of discussions in each topical group and in the plasma control joint meeting is reported here.

The major problems of the JENDL-3.2 data were solved by the new library: overestimation of criticality values for thermal fission reactors was improved by the modifications of fission cross sections and fission neutron spectra for U; incorrect energy distributions of secondary neutrons from important heavy nuclides were replaced with statistical model calculations; the inconsistency between elemental and isotopic evaluations was removed for medium-heavy nuclides. Moreover, covariance data were provided for 20 nuclides. The reliability of JENDL-3.3 was investigated by the benchmark analyses on reactor and shielding performances. The results of the analyses indicate that JENDL-3.3 predicts various reactor and shielding characteristics better than JENDL-3.2.
