To replay the demand from the sites of radiation emergency medicine, we developed a prototype of a computer system for assessing radioactive contamination accidentally remained in the wound or on the skin surface. This system implements numerical calibration of detectors measuring the contaminant by using a Monte Carlo simulation-based radiation transport code, MCNPX coupled to a numerical phantom modeling the contaminants and the surrounding tissue. By the help of functional graphical user interfaces (GUIs) provided by the system, a user can perform desired simulations without complicated procedures in creating input files for MCNPX. In the present work, benchmark calculations of MCNPX were conducted to verify the simulations, and we optimized detection-related parameters not sufficiently provided by suppliers. The developed system would be useful for better assessments of the radioactive contamination.

Under the Agreement Between the Government of Japan and the EURATOM for the Joint Implementation of the Broader Approach Activities (BA Activities) in the Field of Fusion Energy Research, JAEA develop a new site at Rokkasho-mura in Aomori prefecture of Japan as the Japanese Implementing Agency. In this new site, two of the three projects of the BA Activities are to be implemented, namely, International Fusion Energy Research Center (IFERC) Project and International Fusion Material Irradiation Facility/Engineering Validation and Engineering Design Activity (IFMIF/EVEDA) Project. In March 2009, the Administration and Research Building was completed, and the other research facilities; CSC&REC Building, DEMO R&D Building and IFMIF/EVEDA Accelerator Building will be completed in March 2010. In this presentation, the specifications and construction schedule of the individual research buildings will be presented, especially special features of the IFMIF/EVEDA Accelerator Building.

An environmental radiation monitoring system in Tokai establishment of JAERI is composed of 14 monitoring posts, 4 monitoring stations, 2 drainage monitors and the monitoring data observation center. These monitoring posts and stations measure the gamma dose rate, and the monitoring stations measure the radioactive air concentration too. Drainage monitors measure the radioactive concentration in drain water. We developed the environmental radiation dose information system used by cellular phone for observing the monitoring data in day and night, working day and holiday at everyplace in Japan. This information system shows us the every minute or every 10 minutes monitoring data table and data trend graph on the cellular phone display. In the emergency situation, this system helps for speedy response such as the notification to the JAERI staffs, starting the emergency environmental monitoring activities, reporting the dose rate and concentration to the national and local authorities, and establishment of the emergency response team in JAERI.

For the purpose of the development of technology for dismantling and decontamination at the high dose area,
dismantling method is applied for the liquid waste storage tank (LV-1) which is in the concrete cell at the JRTF. This report describes the outline of the program for
dismantling of the LV-1.
