Proceedings of 15th International Topical Meeting on Nuclear Reactor Thermal Hydraulics (NURETH-15) (USB Flash Drive), 13 Pages, 2013/05

The development of flow-induced vibration evaluation methodology has reached a milestone that separate-effect experimental data under a high Reynolds number regime including swirl and deflected inflow conditions are available for the validation of the methodology. On the other hand, technical standards are desirable to be documented for designers of sodium-cooled fast reactors. From such a background, the documentation of a flow-induced vibration design guideline has been made for the hot-leg piping of Japan sodium-cooled fast reactor. This paper describes the design guideline of the flow-induced vibration evaluation methodology, which has been informed from main separate-effect experiments, as well as supplemental interpretation for the guideline.

Development of the pyrochemical process of spent nitride fuels for ADS; Its elemental technologies and process flow diagram

Proceedings of International Conference on Toward and Over the Fukushima Daiichi Accident (GLOBAL 2011) (CD-ROM), 6 Pages, 2011/12

R&D on the transmutation of long-lived minor actinides (MA) by the accelerator-driven system (ADS) using nitride fuels is underway at Japan Atomic Energy Agency. In regard to reprocessing technology, pyrochemical process has several advantages in case of treating spent fuel with large decay heat and fast neutron emission, and recovering highly enriched N-15. In the pyrochemical reprocessing, plutonium (Pu) and MA are dissolved in LiCl-KCl eutectic melts and selectively recovered into liquid cadmium (Cd) cathode by molten salt electrorefining. The recovered Pu and MA are converted to nitrides by the nitridation-distillation combined method, in which the Cd alloys containing Pu and MA are heated in nitrogen gas stream. The authors have investigated its elemental technologies such as electrorefining and renitridation. On the other hand, development of the process flow diagram with the material balance sheet of the pyrochemical reprocessing of spent nitride fuel for ADS is in progress. This paper summarized recent progress of the study which aims to prove the technological applicability of pyrochemical process to the nitride fuel cycle for transmutation of MA.

Analysis of the emission spectrum of Xe and Sn

Proceedings of SPIE's International Symposium on Microlithography, Vol.6151, p.61513W_1 - 61513W_8, 2006/03

The atomic processes in the Xe and Sn plasmas are investigated. The wavelength of atomic transitions is shown to have a critical effect in reproducing experiments. The wavelengths of resonance lines in our model are improved through detailed comparison with charge specific spectroscopic measurement. Distribution of satellite lines in the presence of the effect of the configuration interaction (CI) is investigated. The spectral profile of Xe and Sn emission, with determines fraction of usable EUV power, is discussed with respect to its dependence on the plasma temperature, density as well as the optical depth.
