Cold neutrons from a nuclear research reactor irradiated the MgB detector, and the output voltage was clearly observed through a low-noise amplifier by using a digital oscilloscope. The out-of-equilibrium thermodynamics was investigated by means of the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equations by using the Earth Simulator.

The Feasibility Study on Commercialized Fast Reactor (FR) Cycle Systems is under way in order to propose prominent FR cycle systems that will respond to the diverse needs of society in the future. The design studies on various FR system concepts have been achieved and then the evaluations of potential to achieve the development targets have been carried out. Crucial issues have been found out for each FR system concept and their development plans for the key technologies are summarized as the roadmap. The characteristics and the differences in performances have been investigated. The crucial issues and the development periods have been clarified. Further investigation is now in progress. The promising concept will be proposed based on result of comparative evaluation at the end of the Phase II study.

This paper describes the summary of an interim report of phase II of the Feasibility Study on Commercialized FR Cycle Systems, related to reactor systems. Promising plant concepts (sodium-, lead-bismuth-, helium-, and water-cooled fast reactor) and reactor core concepts are presented. These concepts are quantitatively evaluated from the viewpoint of the suitability to the development targets, such as economic competitiveness, efficient utilization of resources and reduction of environmental burden, with securing safety. As results, sodium cooled fast reactor is well suited to the development targets. LBE cooled fast rector would have a potential to attain the development targets. Helium gas cooled fast reactor would have the great potential for high thermal efficiency and multipurpose energy system. And water cooled fast reactor has the advantage that there are many experiences with LWR. Furthermore the crucial issues for technical feasibility are also clarified as road map of key technology development for each concept.

Dubnium-262 was produced in the Cm(F, 5n) reaction at the JAEA tandem accelerator. Reaction products were rapidly transported by a He/KF gas-jet system to the chemistry laboratory. Anion-exchange behavior of Db in HF/HNO solution was then investigated using the newly developed on-line ion-exchange and -particle detection apparatus. Distribution coefficients of Db were clearly smaller than those of Ta, the closest homologue in the periodic table, and were close to those of lighter homologue Nb and also the pseudo homologue Pa. Fluoride complex formation of Db will be discussed.

Cation-exchange behavior of Rf (T = 78 s) produced in the Cm(O, 5n) reaction was studied on a "one-atom-at-a-time" scale in HSO (0.15-0.69 M)/HNO mixed solutions ([H] = 1.0 M) using an automated ion-exchange separation apparatus coupled with the detection system for alpha-spectroscopy. It was found that adsorption probability (%ads) of Rf on cation-exchange resin decreases with increasing [HSO], showing a successive formation of its sulfate complexes. Rf exhibited much weaker formation of the complexes than the lighter homologues Zr and Hf, which is qualitatively in good agreement with theoretical calculations including relativistic effects.
