Neutron radiography is an effective water diagnostic tool for fuel cells. For observation of water distribution in small region in fuel cells, improvement of spatial resolution of neutron radiography system is required. We fabricated the small aperture system for improvement of collimator ratio on Thermal Neutron Radiography Facility (TNRF) in JRR-3. In characteristic tests, better sharpness images were obtained by small aperture system compared with conventional radiography system.

The elemental distribution of several pieces of fuel debris was obtained by scanning electron microscopy combined with wavelength dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. We also evaluated the microscopic isotope ratios of nuclides in fuel debris and their crystal structures by secondary ion mass spectrometry and transmission electron microscopy.

Several picecs of fuel debris were dissolved using simple dissolution method that employed nitric acid solutionwith trace hydrofluoric acid. Nuclides in dissolved fueldebris solution were analyzed by inductively coupled-plasma mass spectrometry and radiation measurements.
