Crystal and magnetic structures of the mineral centennialite CaCu$$_{3}$$(OD)$$_{6}$$Cl$$_{2}$$ $$cdot$$ 0.6D$$_{2}$$O are investigated by means of synchrotron X-ray diffraction and neutron diffraction measurements complemented by density functional theory (DFT) and pseudofermion functional renormalization group (PFFRG) calculations. In CaCu$$_{3}$$(OD)$$_{6}$$Cl$$_{2}$$ $$cdot$$ 0.6D$$_{2}$$O, Cu$$^{2+}$$ ions form a geometrically perfect kagome network with antiferromagnetic $$J_{1}$$. No intersite disorder between Cu$$^{2+}$$ and Ca$$^{2+}$$ ions is detected. CaCu$$_{3}$$(OD)$$_{6}$$Cl$$_{2}$$ $$cdot$$ 0.6D$$_{2}$$O enters a magnetic long-range ordered state below $$T_{rm N}$$ = 7.2 K, and the $$q$$=0 magnetic structure with negative vector spin chirality is obtained. The ordered moment at 0.3 K is suppressed to 0.58(2)$$mu$$B. Our DFT calculations indicate the presence of antiferromagnetic $$J_{2}$$ and ferromagnetic $$J_{d}$$ superexchange couplings of a strength which places the system at the crossroads of three magnetic orders (at the classical level) and a spin-$$frac{1}{2}$$ PFFRG analysis shows a dominance of $$q$$=0 type magnetic correlations, consistent with and indicating proximity to the observed $$q$$=0 spin structure. The results suggest that this material is located close to a quantum critical point and is a good realization of a $$J_{1}$$-$$J_{2}$$-$$J_{d}$$ kagome antiferromagnet.

In Japan Atomic Energy Agency, in order to solve the problem in the long-term operation of a light water reactor, preparation which does the irradiation experiment of light-water reactor fuel and material was advanced. JMTR stopped after the 165th operation cycle in August 2006, and is advancing renewal of the irradiation facility towards re-operation. The material irradiation test facility was installed from 2008 fiscal year to 2012 fiscal year in JMTR. The material irradiation test facility is used for IASCC study, and that consists of mainly three equipments. This report is described performance operating test of the water environmental control facilities for IASCC study carried out 2013 fiscal year.

HCM12A Cr-rich oxide layer investigation using 3D atom probe

Three-dimensional atom probe techniques were applied to the investigation on the oxide scale in 12Cr ferritic-martensitic steel, HCM12A. A duplex oxide scale was formed in lead bismuth eutectic at 450-500$$^{circ}$$C, during 5500 h. Samples were located 500-700 nm away from the boundary between magnetite and Fe-Cr spinel layers, while the total oxide layer thickness is 18 $$mu$$m. It detected super enrichment of Cr with a size of ten nm roughly, as well as depletion of Fe and enrichment of O at the same site. Surrounding the Cr super enrichment area, enrichment of Si was newly noticed due to the scanned profile of detected atom counts. It is also confirmed that Pb and Bi concentration in the observed spinel region is almost null or less than 0.01 atomic percent, which is possible detecting lowest limit.

Transverse momentum distributions and yields for $$pi^{pm}, K^{pm}, p$$, and $$bar{p}$$ in $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 and 62.4 GeV at midrapidity are measured by the PHENIX experiment at the RHIC. We present the inverse slope parameter, mean transverse momentum, and yield per unit rapidity at each energy, and compare them to other measurements at different $$sqrt{s}$$ collisions. We also present the scaling properties such as $$m_T$$ and $$x_T$$ scaling and discuss the mechanism of the particle production in $$p + p$$ collisions. The measured spectra are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.

Measurements of electrons from the decay of open-heavy-flavor mesons have shown that the yields are suppressed in Au+Au collisions compared to expectations from binary-scaled $$p+p$$ collisions. Here we extend these studies to two particle correlations where one particle is an electron from the decay of a heavy flavor meson and the other is a charged hadron from either the decay of the heavy meson or from jet fragmentation. These measurements provide more detailed information about the interaction between heavy quarks and the quark-gluon matter. We find the away-side-jet shape and yield to be modified in Au+Au collisions compared to $$p+p$$ collisions.

Toward the re-operation of Japan Materials Testing Reactor on 2011 F.Y., the construction of new material irradiation facility for the stress corrosion cracking research under the LWR irradiation environment had been planed, and the design study of water control unit for BWR and water chemical study which supply the LWR simulated water to the material irradiation capsule were carried out on 2007 F.Y. The design study of new material irradiation facility was examined including the reflection of the operation experience and the reuse of components on old material irradiation facility. These examination results were summarized in this report.

The concentrations of fluorine (7.2$$sim$$9.5 mg/L) and boron (0.8$$sim$$1.5 mg/L) dissolved in groundwater pumped from shafts during excavation at the Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory (MIU), Tono Geoscience Centre, are reduced to the levels below the environmental standards (fluorine: 0.8 mg/L, boron: 1 mg/L) at a water treatment facility. Coagulation treatment and ion exchange treatment are applied for fluorine and boron respectively. Consequently, we have started research on efficient groundwater treatment for fluorine and boron using radiation-induced graft polymerization adsorbent. Regarding the treatment for boron, over 95% of boron has been removed from groundwater volume of 760 times greater than the volume of the adsorbent. With respect to the fluorine removal, 95% of fluorine has been removed from groundwater volume of 320 times greater than the volume of the adsorbent. As over 90% of fluorine must be removed from the groundwater in order to meet the environmental standard, the treatment method for fluorine using radiation-induced graft polymerization adsorbent is less efficient than for boron and will need further improvement. Therefore, we are planning to perform a durability evaluation and recycling test of adsorbent using improved testing equipment for enhancing the efficiency.

Bifunctional cation exchange fibers were synthesized by co-grafting of chloromethylstylene and styrene. on polyethylene-coated polypropylene fibers. The grafted fibers were fictionalized by Arbuzov reaction, suffonation, and acid hydrolysis. Batchwise evaluation of metal ion selectivity clarified that the bifunctional fiber exhibited cooperative recognition of metal ions by both functional groups. The bifunctional fiber took up Pb(II) more rapidly than the monofunctional phosphoric acid fiber and commercial resin adsorbent. Column-mode experiment revealed that flow rate was independent of break through profiles of Pb(II) up to flow rate of 900 h$$^{-1}$$ in space velocity.

The titled bifunctional fiber (FVCPS-f) were prepared by treating chloromethylated vinylbiphenyl-grafted polyethylene-coated polypropylene fiber (0.9 denier, length 3.8 cm) with triethyl phosphite, chlorosulfonic acid, and conc. hydrochloric acid, in successive. Phosphorus and sulfur contents of FVCPS-f were 1.8 and 0.7 mmol/g, respectively (acid capacity 4.2 meq/g). Its breakthrough capacity (BC) for Fe(III) gradually decreased with an increase in flow rate of feeds from 20/h to 1000/h in space velocity (SV); for instance, its BC at a SV 1000/h was 0.12 mmol/g, whereas both a commercially available phosphonate resin and a monofunctional phosphonate fiber were not able to give practically meaningful BC at such an extremely high flow rate.
