Weak ferromagnetic ordering disordered by Rh$$^{3+}$$ ions for LaCo$$_{0.8}$$Rh$$_{0.2}$$O$$_{3}$$

JPS Conference Proceedings (Internet), 3, p.014034_1 - 014034_6, 2014/06

We have carried out the neutron scattering measurements for a single crystal of LaCo$$_{0.8}$$Rh$$_{0.2}$$O$$_{3}$$ in order to investigate the ferromagnetic ordering induced by Rh$$^{3+}$$ substitution for Co$$^{3+}$$ of LaCoO$$_{3}$$. The ordered moment is evaluated to be 0.4$$pm$$0.2$$mu$$$$_{B}$$, which is consistent with the saturation magnetization of LaCo$$_{0.8}$$Rh$$_{0.2}$$O$$_{3}$$. It indicates that the ferromagnetic ordering of LaCo$$_{0.8}$$Rh$$_{0.2}$$O$$_{3}$$ originates from the short-range ferromagnetic ordering disordered by Rh$$^{3+}$$ ions.

Neutron and synchrotron X-ray diffraction for LaCo$$_{1-x}$$ Rh$$_{x}$$O$$_{3}$$ have been carried out in order to investigate the structural properties related with the spin state of Co$$^{3+}$$ ions. We have found that the values of the Co(Rh)-O bond lengths in the Co(Rh)O$$_{6}$$ octahedron of LaCo$$_{0.8}$$Rh$$_{0.2}$$O$$_{3}$$ are nearly identical at 10 K. The lattice volume for the Rh$$^{3+}$$ substituted samples decreases with the thermal expansion coefficient similar to that of LaCoO$$_{3}$$ from room temperature, and ceases to decrease around 70 K. These experimental results favor a mixed state consisting of the high-spin state and low-spin state Co$$^{3+}$$ ions, and suggest that the high-spin state Co$$^{3+}$$ ions are thermally excited in addition to those pinned by the substituted Rh$$^{3+}$$ ions.

In order to optimize the physics performance of ITER, the millimeter (mm) wave design of the equatorial electron cyclotron launcher is modified so that one-third of the total mm-wave injection power can be flipped to drive plasma current in the counter direction. The design change to perform the poloidal beam tilting of 5$$^{circ}$$ at top and bottom beam row is conducted so that more efficient central power deposition is achievable. The opening shape in the blanket shield module (BSM) structure is also optimized to minimize the degradation of the mm-wave transmission efficiency. The degradation is only 0.3%. The modularization design of the steering mirror components and the internal shield, the application of a rail structure to perform the alignment of the steering mirror installation and the space allocation behind the BSM structure are implemented to increase the reliability, the manufacturability and the maintenability of the launcher design.

no journal, ,

Next target in the JAEA is development of advanced gyrotron for ITER such as high power repetitive operation, high frequency power modulation and dual frequencies. In repetitive operation, 400 s pulse operation was 10 times with pulse interval of 30 min was demonstrated. In high frequency power modulation, 300Hz-5min full modulation and 5kHz-10s RF modulation were demonstrated. In parallel, higher order mode gyrotron with TE31,11 have been manufactured and high power test was just started. In preliminary result, dual frequencies of 170 GHz with TE31,11 and 137 GHz with TE 25, 9 and high power output more than 1 MW were obtained in the short pulse operation.

Am(III) diffusion experiment were performed by reservoir depletion (RD) test method coupled with thin layer ID profile fitting in 0.1 or 0.5M NaCl / 0.05M NaHCO$$_{3}$$ - bentonite (kunipia-F) system. The Kd values were also measured using batch technique in the same experimental conditions. In an ordinary ID profile acquisition cutting the bentonite by scraper, the compacted bentonite sample can be cut into 100 $$mu$$m thick slices. Using this technique, it was possible to divide the ID profile into 10 $$mu$$m and therefore, to analyze diffusion distance layer larger than 50 $$mu$$m.

The Development of the magnetic order in multiferroic material NdCrTiO$$_{5}$$ revealed by the neutron diffraction study

The neutron powder diffraction for the multiferroic material, NdCrTiO$$_{5}$$ has been carried out to investigate the development of the magnetic order in the material. We found the intensities of magnetic peaks increased with decreasing temperature below the transition temperature T$$_{N}$$. We discuss temperate dependence of magnetic moments and the development of magnetic order.
