In the field of nuclear engineering, complex simulations on exa-scale supercomputers generate large-scale data. To facilitate efficient analysis of such simulation data, one needs to share them among scientists at remote locations. However, data I/O and data transfer for such large-scale data are quite costly. To resolve these issues, we developed a remote in-situ visualization system IS-PBVR based on the particle-based volume rendering (PBVR), which is suitable for parallel processing on modern supercomputers. In this study, we extend IS-PBVR for VR visualization on multiple client PCs, thus developing a multi-point remote VR visualization. We apply this technique to fluid simulations on GPU-based supercomputers and verify its utility by sharing in-situ VR visualization between multiple client PCs.

Times Cited Count:86 Percentile:89.24(Chemistry, Physical)Potential-dependent surface structures of Au(111) and Au(100) single-crystal electrodes in a 50 mM HSO solution were investigated at an atomic level using in situ surface X-ray scattering (SXS) techniques. It was confirmed that both the Au(111) and Au(100) surfaces were reconstructed with an attached submonolayer of an oxygen species, most probably water, at 0 V (vs Ag/AgCl). Results at +0.95 V supported a previously suggested model for both the Au(111) and the Au(100) electrodes that, based on infrared and scanning tunneling microscopy measurements, the surfaces were a (11) structure with the coadsorbed sulfate anion and hydronium cation (HO). At +1.05 V, where a small amount of an anodic current flowed, adsorption of a monolayer of oxygen species was observed on both surfaces.

The Engineering Design Activities (EDA) for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) was performed under the collaboration of Japan, EU, Russia and the US. The EDA was successfully completed in July 2001, in which the development of fabrication technology for advanced components, such as superconducting coils, was conducted. The ITER magnet system consists of Toroidal Field coils, a Central Solenoid (CS), Poloidal Field coils and Correction coils. The construction of these coils requires advanced technologies that fairly exceeded those available at the start of the EDA. Therefore, CS Model Coil and TF Model Coil projects were implemented. To fabricate the CS Model Coil, the fabrication technologies for high performance strand, large cable, winding, heat treatment, joint and insulation are indispensable. This report describes the above detailed fabrication technologies successfully developed in the CS Model Coil Project.
