Electronic structure of the MgZnY alloy showed a semi-metallic electronic structure with a pseudo-gap at the Fermi level. The observed electronic structure of the MgZnY alloy suggests that the presence of a pseudogap structure is responsible for phase stability.

To investigate its performance, we conducted tests with Ar-CH (90:10) and Ar-CF (95:5), where the former is mainly used. The detection efficiency was measured to be 98% at the beam rate up to cps/cm, and 90% at the rate of cps/cm. Based on the measured horizontal resolution of 0.19-0.46 mm at the drift length of 5-20 cm, the position resolution of better than 0.3 mm is estimated in 1 T magnetic field. The ion backflow fraction was measured to be 5% and reduced up to 3% at the gain of . The horizontal position distortion due to ion backflow in the gate operation was suppressed within mm at the beam rates up to cps/cm. On the other hand, the distortion with the gate open was measured to be mm. The distortion in the final experiment is estimated to be mm.

The main goals of the program are to explore the QCD phase diagram at highbaryon density with heavy ions up to uranium at the beam energies of around 10A GeV. We are planning to focus on the electron and muon measurements and rare probe search such asmulti-strangeness and charmed hadrons with high beam rates at J-PARC. A heavy-ionacceleration scheme has been considered with a new heavy-ion linac and a new booster ring, with the existing 3-GeV Rapid-Cycling Synchrotron, and the 30-GeV Main Ring synchrotron. An overview of the heavy-ion program and accelerator design, as well as physics goals and conceptual design of the experiments are presented.

An event with 2 and 2 protons decaying from H-dibaryon is searched for inside the TPC. The TPC has octagonal prism shape drift volume with about 50 cm diameter with 55 cm drift length filled with Ar-CH (90:10) gas. At the end of the drift volume, 3-layer GEMs are equipped. In order to analyze momenta of produced particles, the TPC is applied with 1 T dipole magnetic field parallel to the drift electric field with a superconducting Helmholz magnet. In order to maximize the acceptance of H-dibaryon events, a diamond target is installed inside the TPC drift volume, in a cylindrical hole opened from the top to the middle of the drift volume. Since extremely high-rate beam is directly injected into the TPC drift volume to the target, a gating grid and GEMs are adopted to suppress positive-ion feedback.

The knowledge of the interaction between organic molecules and semiconductor surfaces plays an important role in adapting organic semiconductors into the semiconductor technology. In the present study, the process of -sexithiophene (-6T) thin layer formation on passivated silicon (Si) surfaces has been investigated in-situ by means of PES, angle-depended NEXAFS (near-edge X-ray absorption fine-structure), SDRS, and RDS. For water-adsorbed Si(001), it was found that the majority of -6T molecules are standing on the substrate. Above 3 nm, most of molecules are standing and constitute well ordered islands or films. For ethylene adsorbed Si(001) on the contrary, some of -6T molecules are flat-lying, resulting in less prominent orientation. Thus, the orientation of molecules depends on the method of passivation, which opens the possibility of controlling the molecular orientation by the surface modification.

The production rate of reconstructed jets is satisfactorily reproduced with the next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculation. We measured = -0.0014 0.0037 at the lowest bin and -0.0181 0.0282 at the highest bin. The measured is compared with the predictions that assume various distributions.

Here we extend these studies to two particle correlations where one particle is an electron from the decay of a heavy flavor meson and the other is a charged hadron from either the decay of the heavy meson or from jet fragmentation. These measurements provide more detailed information about the interaction between heavy quarks and the quark-gluon matter. We find the away-side-jet shape and yield to be modified in Au+Au collisions compared to collisions.

To avoid the difficulty of determinations due to the flux pinning, we developed a novel method using a miniature hall-sensor array which can evaluate the local magnetic induction ai each sensor position. The hall sensor which is placed on the edge of the crystal clearly resolves the first flux penetration from the Meissner state. The temperature dependence of for is well scaled by the in-plane penetration depth and is consistent with a full-gap superconducting state. The anistropy of at low temperatures is estimated to be 3, which is much smaller than of . This indicates the multiband superconductivity, in which the active bands for superconductivity are more two-dimensional.

"R&D Project on Irradiation Damage Management Technology for Structural Materials of Long-life Nuclear Plant" was carried out from FY2006 in a fund of a trust enterprise of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The coupled irradiations or single irradiation by JOYO fast reactor and JRR-3 thermal reactor were performed for about two years. The irradiation specimens are very important materials to establish of "Evaluation of Irradiation Damage Indicator" in this research. For the acquisition of the examination specimens irradiated by the JOYO and JRR-3, we summarized about the overall plan, the work process and the results for the study to utilize these reactors and some facilities of hot laboratory (WASTEF, JMTR-HL, MMF and FMF) of the Oarai Research-and-Development Center and the Nuclear Science Research Institute in the Japan Atomic Energy Agency.
