A TPC has been developed for J-PARC E42 experiment to search for H-dibaryon in ($$K^-$$, $$K^+$$) reaction. An event with 2 $$pi^-$$ and 2 protons decaying from H-dibaryon is searched for inside the TPC. The TPC has octagonal prism shape drift volume with about 50 cm diameter with 55 cm drift length filled with Ar-CH$$_{4}$$ (90:10) gas. At the end of the drift volume, 3-layer GEMs are equipped. In order to analyze momenta of produced particles, the TPC is applied with 1 T dipole magnetic field parallel to the drift electric field with a superconducting Helmholz magnet. In order to maximize the acceptance of H-dibaryon events, a diamond target is installed inside the TPC drift volume, in a cylindrical hole opened from the top to the middle of the drift volume. Since extremely high-rate $$K^-$$ beam is directly injected into the TPC drift volume to the target, a gating grid and GEMs are adopted to suppress positive-ion feedback.

Transactions of the Materials Research Society of Japan, 38(2), p.229 - 233, 2013/12

Li$$_{2}$$MnO$$_{3}$$ powder with a monoclinic cell related to the space group of ${it C}$2/${it m}$ was synthesized by a simplified coprecipitation method. Its electrode properties as a lithium-battery cathode were investigated in the charge-discharge potential ranges of 2.0 - 4.6, 2.0 - 4.8, and 2.0 - 5.0 V. In all the potential ranges, the electrochemical capacities gradually increased during cycling, and the increased capacities significantly depended on the potential ranges. Compared to the discharge capacities for the potential ranges of 2.0 - 4.6 and 2.0 - 5.0 V, the former merely increased from 12.5 to 22.5 mAhg$$^{-1}$$ between the 1st and 99th cycles, whereas the latter increased from 20.0 to 110.2 mAhg$$^{-1}$$ during the same cycling. The structural variation in Li$$_{2}$$MnO$$_{3}$$ is induced by the cycling, the rhombohedral phase is detected during cycling in the potential range of 2.0 - 5.0 V.

A manganese-based solid solution with the composition of Li$$_{1.95}$$Mn$$_{0.9}$$Co$$_{0.15}$$O$$_{3}$$ was synthesized by a simplified coprecipitation method, and its electrochemical characteristics as a lithium-battery cathode were investigated. Rietveld refinement based on neutron diffraction data revealed that the material is assigned to an Li$$_{2}$$MnO$$_{3}$$-type structure model with a space group symmetry of ${it C}$2/${it m}$. In cycling of the cell in the potential range from 2.0 to 4.8 V at current densities of 30 mAhg$$^{-1}$$, the discharge capacity characteristically increases from 46.3 to 196.5 mAhg$$^{-1}$$ as the cycle increases from 1 to 11, and a discharge capacity above 175.5 mAhg$$^{-1}$$ is obtained between the 23rd and 58th cycles. The cyclic voltammogram and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements showed that the manganese redox reaction is progressively activated during the first ten-odd cycles.

We determined the magnetic structure below $$T_{rm N1}=2.2(1)$$ K of the spin-5/2 antiferromagnetic (AF) trimer substance SrMn$$_3$$P$$_4$$O$$_{14}$$ using neutron powder diffraction experiments. The incommensurate propagation vector is expressed as [0, $$k_y$$, 0], due to competition between the nearest-neighbor and next-nearest-neighbor interactions in trimerized chains. The value of $$k_y$$ is 0.316 to 0.331, changing rapidly at $$T_{rm N2}= 1.75(5)$$ K. We confirmed that the intra-trimer $$J_1$$ interaction is AF. The magnetic excitation peaks were obsereved at 0.46, 0.68, and 1.02 meV. The weak Q dependence indicates the discrete energy levels, which do not contradict the AF trimer model with the intra-trimer interaction value of 0.29 meV (3.4 K).

We report on the event structure and double helicity asymmetry ($$A_{LL}$$) of jet production in longitudinally polarized $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 GeV. Photons and charged particles were measured by the PHENIX experiment. Event structure was compared with the results from PYTHIA event generator. The production rate of reconstructed jets is satisfactorily reproduced with the next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculation. We measured $$A_{LL}$$ = -0.0014 $$pm$$ 0.0037 at the lowest $$P_T$$ bin and -0.0181 $$pm$$ 0.0282 at the highest $$P_T$$ bin. The measured $$A_{LL}$$ is compared with the predictions that assume various $$Delta G(x)$$ distributions.

Transverse momentum distributions and yields for $$pi^{pm}, K^{pm}, p$$, and $$bar{p}$$ in $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 and 62.4 GeV at midrapidity are measured by the PHENIX experiment at the RHIC. We present the inverse slope parameter, mean transverse momentum, and yield per unit rapidity at each energy, and compare them to other measurements at different $$sqrt{s}$$ collisions. We also present the scaling properties such as $$m_T$$ and $$x_T$$ scaling and discuss the mechanism of the particle production in $$p + p$$ collisions. The measured spectra are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.

Measurements of electrons from the decay of open-heavy-flavor mesons have shown that the yields are suppressed in Au+Au collisions compared to expectations from binary-scaled $$p+p$$ collisions. Here we extend these studies to two particle correlations where one particle is an electron from the decay of a heavy flavor meson and the other is a charged hadron from either the decay of the heavy meson or from jet fragmentation. These measurements provide more detailed information about the interaction between heavy quarks and the quark-gluon matter. We find the away-side-jet shape and yield to be modified in Au+Au collisions compared to $$p+p$$ collisions.

The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has measured the invariant differential cross section for production of $$K^0_s$$, $$omega$$, $$eta'$$ and $$phi$$ mesons in $$p + p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 GeV. The spectral shapes of all hadron transverse momentum distributions are well described by a Tsallis distribution functional form with only two parameters, $$n$$ and $$T$$, determining the high $$p_T$$ and characterizing the low $$p_T$$ regions for the spectra, respectively. The integrated invariant cross sections calculated from the fitted distributions are found to be consistent with existing measurements and with statistical model predictions.

Proceedings of 11th International Conference on Grey Literature (GL-11), p.111 - 117, 2009/12

This poster presentation is to introduce new circulation systems of gray literatures in the fields of nuclear science and technology. Normally circulation of grey literature is not easy, but JAEA Library has been making efforts for highly accessibility to JAEA reports (i.e. JAEA-Research etc.) via the Internet. JAEA Library website is providing the two types of systems for dissemination of our R&D results including JAEA Reports. "JAEA Abstracts" is the list of current R&D results by our staff. The bibliographic information of JAEA reports and papers published in journals is listed. "JOPSS" is the abbreviation for JAEA Originated Papers Searching System. You may search all JAEA research results accumulated over the past fifty years. Recently, with the aim of giving convenience to users of our R&D results in the world, we have developed the new searching interface and retrieval algorithms for "JOPSS".

The Thermal stability of tertiary pyridine resin for the application to multi-functional reprocessing process; Adv.-ORIENT cycle development

Sato, Yoshihiko*; Okada, Ken*; Akiyoshi, Miyako*; Matsunaga, Takehiro*; Suzuki, Tatsuya*; Koyama, Shinichi; Ozawa, Masaki

Proceedings of International Conference on Advanced Nuclear Fuel Cycle; Sustainable Options & Industrial Perspectives (Global 2009) (CD-ROM), p.962 - 969, 2009/09

The fundamental thermochemical properties of tertiary pyridine resin (TPR) and its mixtures with methanol/HCl and HNO$$_{3}$$ were investigated and heating tests on gram scale with TPR/methanol/HNO$$_{3}$$ were carried out. It was found that TPR with HCl was thermally stable. Evident thermal decomposition peaks were identified with TPR in the presence of concentrated HNO$$_{3}$$. No specific effect was observed for methanol involving. However, it was considered that the rapidly exothermic reaction can be controlled by heating temperature.

Perspectives of laser-chemical isotope separation of a long-lived fission product; Cesium-135

Chaltikyan, V.*; Papoyan, A.*; Oshita, Hironori; Shiotani, Hiroki; Ono, Kiyoshi; Ishikawa, Makoto; Ozawa, Masaki

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 280(2), p.347 - 356, 2009/05

According to the review on the ecological impact by Cs-135, its nuclear transmutability and preceded isotope separation experiments on alkali metal Rb-85/87, isotope separation of Cs-133/135 by laser-chemical isotope separation method was discussed. Although high separation efficiency of 23.9 was obtained by a two cycle experiments on Rb-85/87, rather wide isotope shift between Cs-133 and Cs-135 will necessitate the application of doppler-free two-photon absorption method with further investigation of the Rydberg state and ionization.
