The concept of a compact ion particle accelerator has become attractive in view of recent progress in laser-driven ions acceleration. In the development of many applications of laser-accelerated ions, it is necessary for securing the radiation safety to calculate the dose evaluation. The dose was measured with the radio-photoluminescent (RPL) glass dosimeter on the test beamline of at laser-driven accelerator. The Monte Carlo code, PHITS (Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code system) simulation is shown to be reasonably predictive at the test beamline for measured with the RPL glass dosimeter. We compare of the measured dose level on the laser-driven accelerator with the result of PHITS code in this report.

The concept of a compact ion particle accelerator has become attractive in view of recent progress in laser-driven hadrons acceleration. The Photo Medical Research Centre (PMRC) of JAEA was established to address the challenge of laser-driven ion accelerator development for hadrons therapeutic. In the development of the instrument, it is necessary to do the bench-mark of the amount of the different types of radiation by the simulation code for shielding. The Monte Carlo Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code (PHITS) was used for bench-mark the dose on laser-shot radiations of short duration. The code predicts reasonably well the observed total dose as measured with a glass dosimeter in the laser-driven radiations.

Three kinds of video materials on the radioactive material leak accident which happened in J-PARC on May 23, 2013 have been produced. These have been screened on the "J-PARC Safety Day" to encourage the J-PARC staff members to keep the memory, to pass on the lessons learned to the next generation, and to use them for future safety.

Aiming at studies on the latest basic science and the advancing nuclear technology, the J-PARC (Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex) project is in progress, and the high-energy proton accelerator complex of the world highest intensity is under construction. Because of its very high beam power and its energy as well as the large-scale accelerator complex, we have encountered some difficult radiation problems in the radiation safety design. This paper reviews the radiation safety policy and methods for the design to overcome the problems on the radiation safety and the status of the radiation safety estimation for licensing of J-PARC.

The present study demonstrates that surface conditions of the support would affect -particle emission rates of direct evaporation sources. It was suggested that the support with rough surface possibly caused energy attenuation of particles emitted by the nuclides being trapped in valleys on the surface and occasionally some decrease of emission rates.

"Safety day", on which all staff members put their safety-related efforts first, has been assigned on a certain day in late May every year in J-PARC. This is an approach to make a safer environment in J-PARC, learning from the radioactive material leak accident happened on May 23, 2013, to raise the safety consciousness of every staff and foster a safety culture at J-PARC. There are four main programs that have been held on "Safety Day" so far: meeting for sharing safety information, safety awards, lectures on safety matters, and watching the documentary video on the material leak accident. The details will be shown in the presentation.
