The XPD patterns of the I molecules, aligned parallel to the polarization vector of the XFEL, were well matched with our theoretical calculations. Further, we propose a criterion for applying our molecular-structure-determination methodology to the experimental XPD data. In turn, we have demonstrated that this approach is a significant step toward the time-resolved imaging of molecular structures.

The excitation functions of Rf, Rf, and Rf were obtained together with those of spontaneously fissioning nuclides which have few-second half-lives and have been assigned to Rf and a longer-lived state of Rf. The excitation function of few-second spontaneously fissioning nuclide exhibited the maximum cross section at the O beam energy of 94.8 MeV. The shape of the excitation function was almost the same as that of Rf, whereas it was quite different from those of Rf and Rf. A few-second spontaneously fissioning nuclide previously reported as Rf and Rf observed inCm + O reaction was identified as Rf.

We observed six consecutive decays following the implantation of a heavy particle in nearly the same position in the semiconductor detector, in extremely low background condition. The fifth and sixth decays are fully consistent with the sequential decays of Db and Lr both in decay energies and decay times. This indicates that the present decay chain consisted of 113, Rg (Z = 111), Mt (Z = 109), Bh (Z = 107), Db (Z = 105), and Lr (Z = 103) with firm connections. This result, together with previously reported results from 2004 and 2007, conclusively leads the unambiguous production and identification of the isotope 113, of the 113th element.

Future synchrotron light source using a 5-GeV energy recovery linac (ERL) is under proposal by our Japanese collaboration team, and we are conducting R&D efforts for that. We are developing high-brightness DC photocathode guns, two types of cryomodules for both injector and main superconducting (SC) linacs, and 1.3 GHz high CW-power RF sources. We are also constructing the Compact ERL (cERL) for demonstrating the recirculation of low-emittance, high-current beams using above-mentioned critical technologies.

Future synchrotron light sources based on the energy-recovery linacs (ERLs) are expected to be capable of producing super-brilliant and/or ultra-short pulses of synchrotron radiation. Our Japanese collaboration team is making efforts for realizing an ERL-based hard X-ray source. We report recent progress in our R&D efforts.

The susceptibility for CdReO in the high temperature region () obeys a Curie-Weiss law with a large and negative Weiss temperature, which indicates that this system possesses a localized moment nature with antiferromagnetic interactions, leading to geometrical frustration. X-ray and electron diffraction measurements suggest the tetramerization of Re below , which induces a nano-sized stripe structure. From Cd NMR experiments, a large orbital susceptibility is identified by means of a - plot. Both the spin susceptibility and are found to decrease sharply below , signaling a decrease in density of states which is apparently caused by a developing partial energy gap at the Fermi surface.

The areas of age-related macular degeneration, tumor in brain pituitary and vascular lesions such as AVM (Arterio Venous Malformation) to be treated are 11 mm, 3030 mm and 33 mm respectively. To treat these by heavy ion beam instead of surgical operation, not only the spatial resolution of the beam should be 100 micrometer to 1 mm, but also the formation of it be pencil-shaped, so that the diameter of beam hardly depends on the depth of it in the target. The pencil beam transport system was studied and designed for carbon microsurgery therapy, as a part of the 21st century COE program. In this study, one of the vertical beam lines of a heavy ion therapy facility to be constructed in Gunma University was a model for beam optics calculations. The parameters of the magnetic components such as bending magnets and quadrupole ones, were optimized to obtain a sub-millimeter beam on the target. The range shifter is inserted in the beam line to form spread out bragg peak. Effect of inserting range shifters were also estimated, especially for growth of beam emittance by scattering in the further calculation. The total layout of this system and the beam optics simulations are explained in detail in the poster session.

A large amount of nitrate in effluent occurring from Tokai reprocessing plant might cause environmental pollution. The effluent is planning to be encapsulated by cement after treated in the nitrate ion decomposition process. In this presentation, we will report the results of the small scale tests for cement solidification technology development of effluent containing a sodium carbonate.
