The detector system consists of high-purity germanium detectors with BGO Compton suppressors. The signals from the detectors are readout with a digital acquisition system. The absolute energy accuracy, energy and timing resolutions, photo-peak efficiency, the performance of the Compton suppressor, and high count rate durability are studied with standard -ray sources and in-beam experiment using Al()Si resonance reaction. The detection system was demonstrated at Paul Scherrer Institute. A calibration method for a photon detector at a muon facility using muonic X-rays of Au and Bi is proposed.

-Mn-type family alloys Mn have three-dimensional antiferromagnetic (AFM) corner-shared triangular network. The antiferromagnet MnRhSi shows magnetic short-range order (SRO) over a wide temperature range of approximately 500 K above the Nel temperature = 190 K. MnCoSi has the smallest lattice parameter and the lowest in the family compounds. The quantum critical point (QCP) from AFM to the quantum paramagnetic state is expected near a cubic lattice parameter of 6.15 of MnCoSi is only 140 K, quantum critical behavior is observed in MnCoSi as the enhancement of the electronic specific heat coefficient . We study how the magnetic SRO appears in MnCoSi by using neutron scattering, SR, and physical property measurements. The experimental results show that the neutron scattering intensity of the magnetic SRO does not change much regardless of the suppressed magnetic moment in the long-range magnetic ordered state compared to those of MnRhSi. The initial asymmetry drop ratio of SR above becomes small, and the magnetic SRO temperature is suppressed to 240 K. The results suggest that the MnCoSi is close to the QCP in the Mn system.

In this work a study of Se by internal conversion electron and -ray spectroscopy was undertaken with the SPICE and TIGRESS arrays. New measurements of the branching ratio and lifetime of the state were performed yielding a determination of milliunits. Two state mixing calculations were performed that highlighted the importance of interpretation of such strength values in the context of shape-coexistence.

被引用回数:4 パーセンタイル:45.45(Instruments & Instrumentation)核分裂性物質の検知を目的として、制動放射線を検知対象に照射して光核分裂反応を発生させ、放出される中性子線を観測する技術が注目されている。この技術で制動放射線を発生させるための電子加速器は、同等の性能を発揮する中性子源と比べて放射化や即発線量が低く、装置の小型化が容易という利点がある。一方、光核分裂反応は中性子誘導核分裂反応より断面積が低いため、電子線ターゲットや制動放射線の取り出し口、照射野などを最適化することが検知効率の向上に必要となる。本研究では、汎用モンテカルロ放射線輸送計算コードMCNPとPHITSを用いて、最適化に必要な要素を明らかにした。その結果、ターゲットでの制動放射線の生成は原子番号の高い元素の方が有利であるが、発生した光子がターゲット周辺で(,n)二次反応を起こし、中性子を生成するため、光子によって起こる早い光核分裂反応と、中性子による遅い核分裂が混在し、最終的な検出対象である核分裂の発生時間が広がる問題が明らかとなった。また、中性子を生じる二次反応は電子線ターゲットだけではなく、ターゲット周辺の遮蔽材でも発生するため、中性子放出スレッショルドが高い元素を遮蔽材として選択するなどの工夫が必要であることが明らかになった。

被引用回数:9 パーセンタイル:62.22(Physics, Multidisciplinary)The decay of Hg into the one-proton hole, one neutron-particle Tl nucleus was investigated at CERN-ISOLDE. Shell-model calculations describe well the level scheme deduced, validating the proton-neutron interactions used, with implications for the whole of the , quadrant of neutron-rich nuclei. While both negative and positive parity states with spin 0 and 1 are expected within the window, only three negative parity states are populated directly in the decay. The data provide a unique test of the competition between allowed Gamow-Teller and Fermi, and first-forbidden decays, essential for the understanding of the nucleosynthesis of heavy nuclei in the rapid neutron capture process. Furthermore, the observation of the parity changing decay where the daughter state is core excited is unique, and can provide information on mesonic corrections of effective operators.

This = 0 requirement plays a major role in the decay of heavy neutron-rich nuclei, affecting the nucleosynthesis through the increased half-lives of nuclei on the astrophysical -process pathway below both = 50 (for 82) and = 82 (for 126). The level of forbiddenness of the = 1 10 transition has been investigated from the decay of the ground state of Hg into the single-proton-hole nucleus Tl in an experiment at the ISOLDE Decay Station. From statistical observational limits on possible -ray transitions depopulating the 0 state in Tl, an upper limit of 3.910 % was obtained for the probability of this decay, corresponding to log 8.8 within a 95% confidence limit. This is the most stringent test of the = 0 selection rule to date.

The phenomenon of shape coexistence is prevalent in the Z34 region, with isotopes of neutron-deficient even Ge, Se and Kr each exhibiting the characteristic low-lying coexisting 0+ bands which display quadrupole deformation different to that of the ground states. In the selenium isotopes, Se seem to show a prolate ground structure with shape coexisting oblate excitation, while in Se the oblate structure appears to have become the ground state. The exact nature of the low-lying structure Se and any shape coexistence remains uncertain. Combining the Spectrometer for Internal Conversion Electrons (SPICE) with the TIGRESS HPGe Array, a full electron and gamma-ray experimental study of Se, Se was undertaken at the TRIUMF ISAC-II facility to unveil the low-lying structure of these nuclei. Details of the device and experiment will be presented, alongside the experimental results and possible structural interpretations for both isotopes.
