The uranium enrichment facilities at the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Engineering Laboratories of Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) were constructed sequentially to develop uranium enrichment technology with centrifugal separation method. The developed technologies were transferred to Japan Nuclear Fuel Limited until 2001. And the original purpose has been achieved. Wastewater Treatment Facility, one of the uranium enrichment facilities, was constructed in 1976 to treat radioactive liquid waste generated at the facilities, and it finished the role in 2008. In accordance with the Medium/Long-Term Management Plan of JAEA Facilities, interior equipment installed in this facility had been dismantled and removed since November 2021 to August 2023. This report summarizes the findings obtained through the work related to dismantling and removal of interior equipment for decommissioning of Wastewater Treatment Facility.

Limit of detection (LOD) in the ICP-MS measurement of 0.1 g samples was lower than that of the radioactivity measurement. Analytical time of the ICP-MS method was reduced from 20 days to 11 hours, compared with the radiometric method. Therefore, the ICP-MS method can be rapid and useful procedure of
Sr in small bone and tooth samples derived from terrestrial animals.

High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactors; JSME Series in Thermal and Nuclear Power Generation, Vol.5, 464 Pages, 2021/02
As a general overview of the research and development of a High Temperature Gas-cooled Reactor (HTGR) in JAEA, this book describes the achievements by the High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) on the designs, key component technologies such as fuel, reactor internals, high temperature components, etc., and operational experience such as rise-to-power tests, high temperature operation at 950C, safety demonstration tests, etc. In addition, based on the knowledge of the HTTR, the development of designs and component technologies such as high performance fuel, helium gas turbine and hydrogen production by IS process for commercial HTGRs are described. These results are very useful for the future development of HTGRs. This book is published as one of a series of technical books on fossil fuel and nuclear energy systems by the Power Energy Systems Division of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.

It is evaluated in a box with a finite spatial extent. We determine the anomalous dimension in the finite-volume scheme through an analysis of the step-scaling function. Results are compared with a perturbative evaluation, and reasonable behavior is observed.

In order to realize superconducting magnet system with high radiation resistance, it is necessary to develop electrical insulator with high radiation resistance because the electrical insulator is made of organic materials whose radiation resistance is inferior to that of inorganic materials. We developed a glass fiber reinforced plastic with bismaleimide-triazine resin. The developed material showed excellent radiation resistance; the material evolved gases of 510
mol/g and maintained flexural strength of 640MPa (90% of initial value).

The measured data were compared with the estimations by analytical models and Monte Carlo code PHITS. The analytical model with the parameters employed in shielding design of the facility gave considerably larger estimates than the measured data. This means that the facility was designed with an enough safety margin. The calculation results of PHITS were less than those of the analytical model, and were about 3 times larger than the measured data. From the view point of a safety policy with conservative estimation for shielding design, Monte Carlo simulation is a better tool for estimating radiation safety at accelerator-based proton treatment facilities.

Japan is aiming at starting commercial operation of a demonstration FBR around 2025 in the FaCT (Fast Reactor Cycle Technology Development) project. To prepare for such as the new FBR age, INITC has established a total of 27 JAEA staff training courses based on the teachings obtained from the Monju leak accident, regarding to FBR operation technology, sodium handling technology, maintenance technology and FBR plant system engineering technology, and also has been conducting energy environmental education for from under high school students to graduate students of the whole country including local universities. In addition, INITC aims become a central of excellent (COE) of the international technology training in Asia through the international educational training programs sponsored by MEXT. The variety of the activities of educational training mentioned above will contribute to the development of the human resource in Japan and abroad, towards the next generation age.

It is assumed that the variation of temperature and the precipitation with the climate change may affect geological environment such as the subsurface water flow. Therefore, as well as global climate change from the past to the present, investigation technology to grasp local climate change is indispensable. A palynological study was carried out using the sediment core taken from the Okute Basin, located in the northeast of Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory. As a result, it was appeared that in a interglacial epoch, there was much precipitation around this area, and that in a glacial epoch, became colder and more arid, compared with Kinki region in the same latitude. This shows that the modern analog method with pollen data from the sediment of the inland basin is effective technique to estimate a local climate change.

Future synchrotron light source using a 5-GeV energy recovery linac (ERL) is under proposal by our Japanese collaboration team, and we are conducting R&D efforts for that. We are developing high-brightness DC photocathode guns, two types of cryomodules for both injector and main superconducting (SC) linacs, and 1.3 GHz high CW-power RF sources. We are also constructing the Compact ERL (cERL) for demonstrating the recirculation of low-emittance, high-current beams using above-mentioned critical technologies.

nano-particles by means of polarized neutron diffraction experiment is reported. These particles had been developed by industrial researchers for use in high-density magnetic tape, and the particles were coated with proprietary nonmagnetic material. Polarized neutrons were used to measure the magnetic-nuclear interference contributions and, given the known crystal structure, the detailed analysis allowed to determine the magnetic moments on the different Fe-sites. The future perspectives of this technique using the high-intensity powder instrument in combination with pulsed magnetic high-field at J-PARC including the possible industrial application is discussed.

The chemical species: 1:2 for metal:TODGA complex is present in polar diluents. On the other hand, the metal complexes need three or more number of TODGA molecules to remain stable in non-polar diluents. The HNO
concentration dependence on the distribution ratio suggests that HNO
participates in the metal extraction. Infrared spectra indicate that the carbonyl oxygen coordinates with Eu(III), and luminescence lifetimes suggest that there is no water molecule in the inner coordination sphere of Eu-complex extracted.

A palynological study was carried out using the 25.3 m long sediment core taken from Okute basin, Mizunami city, central Japan. Sediments of this core were accumilated for more than ca. 300,000 years. From the results of pollen analysis, the sediments are devided into 15 pollen assemblages zones. These changes show a repetition of five warm and four cool stages. Each stage corresponds to MIS 9 to 1. Consequently, a temperature of MIS 5 was higher than those of MIS 7 and 9. A temperature of MIS 9 was not so high.
