To clarify the radiation effects of the accident at the TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi NPP on living organisms, it is important to accurately estimate the dose to each individual. We have developed a multi-component analysis program using random number optimization to extract only the components derived from carbonate radicals from the ESR spectra.

We aim to improve the detection limit of the ESR dosimetry method. In this study, the saturation behavior of each radical was investigated by varying the microwave power during ESR measurement. Based on the difference in spin relaxation time between carbonate radicals and native radicals, it is expected that the signal-to-noise ratio improves and the detection limit can be lowered when the microwave power is increased to 4.0 mW.

(Ce)(YAP:Ce) scintillator was coupled with a flat panel-type multianode photomultiplier tube. The detector was installed downwards at the bottom of a robot. It has an energy measurement capability, and the energy measurement could discriminate the alpha particles from the beta and
Rn alpha particles. With the energy information, alpha and beta particles could be identified and mapped simultaneously. In addition, a slow-moving robot could be used to obtain statistically sufficient counts in a single run measurement, allowing the evaluation of surface contamination density using only alpha particles. The remote automatic contamination measurement system will be useful in visualizing the contamination distribution in environments that are inaccessible to workers.

The energy spectra of primary knock-on atoms (PKAs) are essential for radiation damage assessment in design of accelerator facilities. However up to date the experimental data are still limited, due to the poor mass resolution and the high measurement threshold energies in the conventional setup of nuclear physics experiments using solid state detectors, which are typically above a few MeV/nucleon. In this study, a novel detection system consisting of two time detectors and one dE-E energy detector is proposed and being constructed to measure the PKA spectra. The system and detector design was based on Monte Carlo simulations by using the PHITS code. The PHITS simulations show that the system is able to distinguish the PKA isotopes above 0.2-0.3 MeV/nucleon for A=20
30 amu; the PKA mass identification thresholds decrease to
0.1 MeV/nucleon for PKAs lighter than 20 amu. The detection system will be tested in the summer of 2017, and the test results will be presented at the conference.

The high-performance computer system Helios which is located at The Computational Simulation Centre (CSC) in The International Fusion Energy Research Centre (IFERC) started its operation in January 2012 under the Broader Approach (BA) agreement between Japan and the EU. The Helios system has been used for magnetised fusion related simulation studies in the EU and Japan and has kept high average usage rate. As a result, the Helios system has contributed to many research products in a wide range of research areas from core plasma physics to reactor material and reactor engineering. This project review gives a short catalogue of domestic simulation research projects. First, we outline the IFERC-CSC project. After that, shown are objectives of the research projects, numerical schemes used in simulation codes, obtained results and necessary computations in future.

In this study, neutron imaging experiment was performed using NOBORU, BL10 of MLF at J-PARC. Four kinds of cast duplex stainless steel with ferrite and austenite microstructure were studied here, which were produced by different casting method at different temperature. Firstly, two-dimensional scintillation detector using wavelength-shifting fibers with pixel size of 0.52 mm 0.52 mm and illuminated area 55 mm
55 mm was used for data collection. Then, measurement by Micro Pixel Chamber based neutron imaging detector having higher spatial resolution about 0.2 mm was conducted. Data analysis code RITS (Rietveld Imaging of Transmission Spectra) will be used for microstructure including crystalline phase, lattice strain, crystallite size, texture evaluation.

We describe three specific high power laser systems that are being developed in our laboratory for many applications in high field science, nonlinear optics and material processing. We report on a femtosecond petawatt-class Ti:sapphire chirped-pulse amplification laser system that can produce a pulse energy of 20 J of 40 fs pulse duration, a picosecond high intensity Yb:YAG chirped-pulse amplification laser system that can generate a pulse energy of 100 mJ of 0.5 ps pulse duration, and a nanosecond high repetition rate Nd:YAG laser system that can provide an average power of 360 W with a pulse duration of 30 ns delivered at a 1 kHz repetition rate. We discuss the basic design aspects and present the results from our experimental investigations of these laser systems.

Plutonium Fuel Fabrication Facility is now in a decommissioning phase. In the facility, stabilizing activities of nuclear material residuals remained and the gloveboxes dismantling activities have been carried out simultaneously. Glovebox dismantling activities are performed manually by a worker wearing air-feed suit with mechanical tools in a plastic enclosure which is constructed around the glove boxes for preventing spread of contamination. However, the mental load and physical load of the worker are intensively high. Therefore, worker's safely issue still exists and need to be resolved. Moreover, occupational time for the worker is restricted to only one hour per day, which in turn make shortening schedule and cost savings almost impossible. R&D of new dismantling methods including application of heavy equipment with anti-contamination measure to strengthen the work performance in the plastic enclosures has been started to reduce the above mentioned potential risks and costs.

In the liquid mercury target for the spallation neutron source, pressure waves occurs owing to the high-intense proton beam bombardment. The pressure waves induces the cavitation in the interface between the mercury and the target vessel through the propagation process. Erosion damage composed of micro-pits clusters is formed by the micro-jets and shock waves emitted from cavitation bubble collapse. In this paper, researches for damage structure of the material that was examined using the electroMagnetic IMpact Testing Machine (MIMTM) form the viewpoint of high-speed deformation. The result showed that the 200300 m/s of collision velocity for micro-jet impacting which was estimated from the numerical simulation is reasonable value.
