From the test results, we have found the following issues; (1) The calculation results with FENDL-3.2b underestimate the measured neutron fluxes of the continuous energy range (10-60 MeV) by a factor of 0.6 in the TIARA experiment with 65 MeV neutrons; (2) The calculation results with FENDL-3.2b tend to underestimate the measured neutron flux above 10 MeV by a factor of 0.8 at depth of 70 cm and overestimate the measured ones below 10 keV by a factor of 1.3 up to depth of 40 cm in the FNS experiment. We investigated those issues in detail and clarified their reasons.

Cs released by the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant to the coastal areaSato, Shun; Wakiyama, Yoshifumi*; Takahashi, Fumiaki; Takata, Hyoe*

We compared the ongoing direct release of
Cs from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) and riverine inputs of
Cs that have contributed to the persistent elevated
Cs in coastal waters around the plant since 2012. The direct release of
Cs clearly decreased from 17.5 TBq during 2012
2014 to 0.6 TBq during 2019
2021 because of measures implemented by the FDNPP. The riverine input decreased slightly from 2.2 TBq during 2012
2014 to 2.0 TBq during 2019
2021. The ratio of direct release to the total
Cs flux into the coastal water around the FDNPP decreased from 89% during 2012
2014 to 23% during 2019
2021. This change resulted in part from a lowering of the limit of detection of
Cs activities to avoid overestimation of Cs fluxes from the facility, but also from installation of an impermeable seaside wall. The trend of decreasing riverine
Cs input might have been due entirely to environmental remediation. Our results indicate that the contribution of riverine input to the coastal waters will continue for a long time. Precise prediction of the long-term distribution of
Cs in the marine environment will require consideration of a variety of environmental factors and anthropogenic effects.

This study proposes a method that combines sliding mode control and neural networks as a control method for unmanned surface vehicle to measure radiation in submarine soil. Sliding mode control is used as the base of control input, and corrective inputs are added using a neural network controller so that one of the parameters of sliding mode control,
, and its rate of change are reduced. After producing a control system using this method, we conducted simulation tests and sea area tests to evaluate whether the survey could be conducted using this method.

This study examined the applicability of loss-on-ignition of soil with a stepwise increase in temperature (SIT-LOI) to evaluate the stability of the SOM using soil samples from Japan having different organic matter (OM) and mineral contents and different mean residence times (MRTs), estimated from radiocarbon analysis, for SOM. As the result of this examination, SIT-LOI data was strongly correlated with MRTs. This clearly suggests that SIT-LOI can be an indicator evaluating the stability of SOM in actual environments.

method, which detects 2.223 MeV
rays from neutron capture reaction of hydrogen using a highly pure germanium (HPGe) detector. The detection of the 2.223 MeV
ray is affected by intense
ray emission from fission products (FPs) because the emission rate of
rays from the FP is seven orders of magnitude higher than the emission rate of neutrons. To shield the intense
ray from the FP, the HPGe detector is placed off the axis of a collimator, whereas a polyethylene block is placed on the axis. In this geometry, the detector is shielded from the intense
rays from the FP, but the detector can measure 2.223 MeV
rays from the H
reactions in the polyethylene block. The measured count rate of the 2.223 MeV
rays is consistent with the expected rate within the statistical error, which is calculated based on the nuclide composition, which is primary
Cm, estimated via depletion and decay calculations. Accordingly, the H
method is considered feasible to quantify the number of neutron leakage from spent nuclear fuel assembly, which is applicable to certify burn up of the assembly.

In this work, we investigate the local atomic structure of Si implanted with 3.0 MeV Ni
ions. Analysis of Ni K-edge fluorescent-yield extended X-ray absorption fine structure reveals that Ni atoms have mixed structure of metallic-like face-centered cubic Ni and NiSi
phases at the initial stage of the irradiation and the formation of NiSi
promotes significantly with the ion fluence above 10
ions cm
. With consideration of the agreement between the ion fluence threshold for the structural transition and the critical Si-amorphization fluence, it is concluded that the amorphization of Si plays an important role in the synthesis of the NiSi
phase in Ni
-irradiated Si.
