The quality control section of Plutonium Fuel Development Center (PFDC) in Japan Atomic Energy Agency has been analyzing isotopic compositions and content of plutonium and uranium as well as impurity and physics of nuclear materials in the process of MOX fuel fabrication for accountancy purpose as well as process control purposes. These analytical techniques are also effective for nuclear forensics to identify the source, history, and route of the material by determining a composition and chemical property of it. Therefore, PFDC cooperates with Los Alamos National Laboratory which has broad experience and established measurement skill for nuclear forensics, and evaluates the each method, procedure, and analytical data toward R&D of characterizing a nuclear fuel for forensics purposes. This paper describes the approaches to develop characterization techniques of nuclear fuel for nuclear forensic purpose at PFDC.

The Periodic Safety Review of TRP is assessment of the validity of safety activities in order to get assurance for continuous operation by adding effective items to extract and to execute for TRP safety. We performed 4 items; for (1) evaluation of safety activity at TRP, as we confirmed organization was ordered and managed. For (2) evaluation of status of safety activities reflecting the latest knowledge, we confirmed improvement of safety was continued adequately reflecting from the experience for safety. For (3) technical review on aging for the safety related structures, systems and components, we evaluated the guaranty of safety under assumption of continuous maintenance till the next Periodic Safety Review. For (4) establishment of long term maintenance program, we found no additional activities into maintenance programs, however, for several installations we established a plan and utilized them for reliability.

The quality control section of Plutonium Fuel Development Center (PFDC) has been analyzing isotopic compositions by Mass Spectrometry as well as content by Isotope Dilution Mass Spectrometry (IDMS) of plutonium and uranium in nuclear materials. Along with establishing and managing the quality assurance system, ensuring the reliability of the analysis data is important. PFDC has been establishing the quality management system with ISO 9001. We addressed technical improvement to improve further reliability of analysis quality, and accredited for ISO/IEC 17025 in March 2010. While ISO 9001 consists of management requirements for quality system of organizations, ISO/IEC 17025 consists of technical requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories in addition to the management requirements. In this presentation, we report our approaches to have accreditation and operation status for isotopic compositions and content of plutonium and uranium in nuclear materials.

The extended Little-Parks effect of superconducting network is known as a periodic $$T$$$$_{rm c}$$ variation as a function of magnetic field. Superconducting Pb honeycomb networks of matching field 0.106 G and triangular microhole lattice of Pb of matching field 0.425 G have been fabricated by the combination of electron-beam lithography and a lift-off process of evaporated Pb films. The application of magnetic field corresponds to the vortex filling into superconducting networks. We measured the magnetization of the networks systematically by using a SQUID magnetometer. We found that flux jump appears rather periodically as a function of magnetic field. Flux jumps may be induced by a periodic decrease of the critical current density of the network. To the authors' knowledge, this is for the first time to observe the regular flux jumps due to the critical current modification coming from the extended Little-Parks effect of the superconducting networks.

Large aperture cylindrical beam ducts consisting of alumina ceramics will be used for the first time in the 3GeV-synchrotron of High Intensity Proton Accelerator Facility. It is necessary to evaluate roundness and straightness of ceramic ducts because we have to compensate contact area of the connected beam duct large as well as we have to compensate large enough beam aperture. We developed an apparatus of measuring roundness and straightness, and we completed data analysis method as well as measuring method. Then we are measuring and evaluating roundness and straightness of ceramic beam ducts. Now, we have newly made an ellipse ceramic duct for the 3GeV-synchrotron BM. This duct has ellipse cross-sections to satisfy with larger aperture that the beam dynamics requires. In this conference, we are going to present taken data and findings regarding form accuracy including roundness and straightness of the ellipse ceramic duct.

In the J-PARC acceletarors, maintenances should be minimized under high levels of radiation. An ultra high vacuum is required for the system in order to realize a long lifetime of the vacuum components. Materials of copper, stainless steel, titanium, alumina ceramics are to be finished as so to reduce the outgassing rate. The measurement of outgassing rate of titanium whose surface is chemically stable has the lowest value compared to any other materials examined so far.
